Yes, ICICI Bank offers education loans for abroad without collateral, but it doesn’t publish one unsecured limit for every applicant. Its instant pre-approved route states up to INR 3 crore for eligible existing customers, while a separate ICICI rate grid states up to INR 1 crore for premier institutes. The route named in the written offer, the institution, the co-applicant and the final Key Facts Statement determine the usable amount. The current abroad starting rates checked on 18 September 2026 were 9% secured and 10.25% unsecured. The first check is whether ICICI has given the applicant an instant pre-approved offer or an ordinary application.

A Key Facts Statement, or KFS, is the proposal sheet that shows the annual percentage rate, charges and repayment schedule before signing. The annual percentage rate, or APR, is the yearly credit cost after the charges covered by the RBI rule are added to interest. The KFS, sanction letter and repayment schedule should together show the family contribution, the amount payable during study and the approved grace period. These written figures matter more than the largest amount or lowest rate on a public page.

  • Collateral: An asset, such as property or a fixed deposit, given as security for repayment.
  • Unsecured: A loan without a charge on a specified asset.
  • Co-applicant: The relative who signs with the student and shares the contractual repayment duty.
  • Margin: The share of eligible education cost paid by the family.
  • Moratorium: The course period and any approved grace period before regular principal-and-interest EMIs begin. It is not automatically interest-free or payment-free.

Which ICICI education-loan route are you actually being offered?

The application path and the security structure are two separate parts of the offer, so the family needs to check both. An instant offer can still be unsecured or backed by a fixed deposit, while an ordinary application can finish as secured or unsecured after assessment.

The instant page describes its intended user in a short condition:

ICICI Bank customers who have an offer for this loan ICICI Bank, Instant Education Loan

This means the INR 3 crore line cannot be treated as the likely amount for a person who has no pre-approved offer. The same instant route page makes the amount subject to the course, institution and eligibility. A separate ICICI rate grid states up to INR 1 crore unsecured for premier institutes. The pages describe different conditions, so neither ceiling is universal.

Level 1: how does the application start? The starting path does not decide the final security by itself.
Starting path Who starts here What happens next
Instant pre-approved offer An eligible existing ICICI customer who already has an offer Course, institution, documents, signatures and final credit conditions are completed
Ordinary application A student applying through the normal document route The student, co-applicant and any proposed security are assessed before sanction
Level 2: what security does the written offer use?The KFS and sanction letter should name one of these structures clearly.
Security structure Public ICICI description What the family should confirm
Unsecured No specified asset is charged; the instant page states up to INR 3 crore for eligible offer holders, while another grid states up to INR 1 crore for premier institutes The applicable route, sanctioned amount, institution condition and co-applicant liability
Fixed-deposit backed One or more ICICI fixed deposits remain invested under a lien The lien amount, which means the bank blocks the deposit as security, and the condition for release
Property secured Residential or commercial property, including cross-collateral with an ICICI home or mortgage loan The property charge, valuation, insurance, costs and release process

ICICI product pages were checked on 18 September 2026. The current KFS and sanction letter should name both the application path and the security structure.

A sanction is conditional approval. A disbursement is the later release of money after the remaining conditions are met. Even an instant applicant must therefore complete the written conditions before ICICI releases the first or a later instalment.

What do ICICI’s secured and unsecured interest-rate pages actually say?

ICICI’s current linked page said abroad education loans started at 9% with security and 10.25% without security on 18 September 2026. A starting rate is not the rate offered to every borrower. The final figure can change with the security, institution category, course, and the applicant’s and co-applicant’s income and credit profiles.

ICICI states the unsecured starting point directly:

Unsecured Education Loans for abroad studies start at 10.25% per annum. ICICI Bank, Education Loan Interest Rates and Charges

The word start matters. A public minimum doesn’t become the applicant’s rate, APR and repayment schedule until it appears in the KFS.

Rate category Published figure How to use it
Current abroad starting rates 9% secured and 10.25% unsecured Use these only as public starting points, then compare the applicant’s KFS
Portfolio disclosure, not an applicant quote The labelled table for October 2025 to March 2026 states 8.5% to 13% and a 10.53% mean; prose on the same page states 9% to 13% and a 10.54% mean Keep the conflict visible, but do not use either range as an abroad offer
Older or scheme-specific figures, not a general abroad rate An older page states 9.5% to 14.25% with an 11.26% mean; named scheme rows state 10.95% for CGFEL and 9.45% for PM-Vidyalaxmi Do not combine these with the current abroad starting-rate grid

All figures above come from ICICI’s current linked rate page and its older separate rate page, read on 18 September 2026. The current KFS controls the applicant’s rate and APR.

A floating rate can change when its benchmark resets. A fixed rate stays at the contracted figure for its fixed period. ICICI’s standard education-loan terms allow the EMI, tenure or both to change after a floating-rate reset, but the public general page does not publish one reset frequency for every loan.

The KFS should turn the rate into a calculation a family can follow. It should name the benchmark, the spread added to it, the resulting annual rate, the reset timing and the repayment schedule based on that rate. If a relationship manager quotes a lower figure than the document, the verbal figure isn’t the usable offer. A later concession changes the comparison only when ICICI issues a revised KFS or written sanction term. This also prevents a scheme rate or an older separate page from being mistaken for the applicant’s rate.

A simple repayment example shows what a one percentage point reset could do. On INR 40 lakh at 10.25% over 120 EMIs, the first EMI is INR 53,416. Once 24 EMIs have been paid, the illustrated balance is INR 34,89,672. If the rate then becomes 11.25%, repaying within the original remaining 96 months raises the EMI to INR 55,289. Keeping the INR 53,416 EMI instead extends the remaining term to about 102 months. This is repayment arithmetic, not a rate forecast.

Illustrated balance after EMI 24 = INR 34,89,672

A separate small-ticket question is whether CGFEL applies. ICICI appears on the NCGTC member-lender list. The CGFEL page describes eligible collateral-free education loans up to INR 7.5 lakh and 75% lender cover. The cover protects the lender, not the student’s repayment duty, and it does not attach automatically to every ICICI loan.

PM-Vidyalaxmi is a different question. Its official FAQ says scheme benefits for Quality Higher Education Institutions apply to eligible institutions in India, although the portal can route other education-loan applications to participating banks.

Who qualifies for an ICICI education loan for abroad, and who signs with the student?

ICICI’s formal product page and education-loan FAQ state a student age range of 16 to 65, with 65 measured when the loan matures. Approval remains subject to case-specific assessment. The product page covers graduates, postgraduates, professional postgraduate diplomas and PhDs after Class XII or a diploma.

ICICI’s formal pages list parents, siblings, spouse, grandparents, parents-in-law and specified uncles or aunts as possible co-applicants. A permitted relationship does not guarantee acceptance. The formal product page and instant-loan FAQ do not state one universal minimum salary or CIBIL cut-off. They leave repayment capacity and credit assessment to the bank.

Unsecured means no specified asset is pledged. It doesn’t mean that the student signs alone. The instant FAQ says a co-applicant may be required depending on the programme, amount and repayment capacity, so the offer should state who signs and who supplies the repayment mandate.

The co-applicant is part of both approval and repayment. A parent whose relationship appears on the list can still be unsuitable because the bank reads income stability, current debt and repayment history together. The student and relative should also read the liability and repayment-mandate clauses before signing. A family choosing an uncle or sibling only to improve the credit file is still giving that person a contractual repayment duty, not naming an emergency contact.

Documents vary by route, employment type and security. The table is a preparation list drawn from ICICI’s formal product page, instant page and instant FAQ. It is not a universal mandatory checklist.

File Route-dependent documents ICICI may request What they help establish
Student Identity and address proof, passport, Class X and XII records, diploma or degree marksheets, entrance scores and admission letter Identity, academic history, course and institution
Destination evidence US Form I-20 or UK Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, where applicable The institution’s admission and visa-document details
Salaried co-applicant Identity and address proof, salary slips and bank statements Income, employment and account conduct
Self-employed co-applicant Identity and address proof, audited financial statements, income-tax returns and bank statements Business income and tax history
Property or fixed deposit Title and property records, valuation and legal papers, or ICICI fixed-deposit details Ownership, value and the bank’s ability to create a valid charge or lien

ICICI can ask for further records. The exact period and format should come from the applicant’s route-specific checklist.

What can ICICI fund, and how much margin may the family still need?

ICICI can fund tuition, hostel fees, examinations, library and laboratory charges, student insurance, one-way travel, books, uniforms, a required laptop, study tours, project work and other necessary course costs. Its courses and expenses page makes approval specific to the course, institution and sanction, so an eligible category isn’t a promise that every invoice will be funded in full.

Margin is the family’s part of the eligible cost. The main ICICI product page says there is no margin at more than 1,500 selected premium institutes. It does not establish one current margin for every other application. The KFS and sanction letter should therefore state the family’s rupee contribution and the date it is due.

Family contribution = eligible project cost x margin percentage in the written offer

For illustration only, suppose the offer states a 15% margin. On an eligible cost of INR 40 lakh, the family pays INR 6 lakh and ICICI funds INR 34 lakh. If the family needs ICICI itself to release INR 40 lakh, the eligible project cost would need to be about INR 47.06 lakh and the family contribution about INR 7.06 lakh. The 15% figure is only an illustration; the applicant’s written offer may state a different margin.

ICICI’s product page lists residential or commercial property, an ICICI fixed deposit and cross-collateral with an ICICI home or mortgage loan as possible security. Cross-collateral means an asset already connected to an ICICI home or mortgage loan is also used to secure the education loan. The standard terms require pledged property to stay insured at the borrower’s cost with ICICI as loss payee. Loss payee means an insurance claim relating to the secured property is payable to the bank to the extent of its interest. Legal review, valuation and insurance can therefore add route-specific costs.

How much does an ICICI secured loan cost compared with an unsecured loan?

Both estimates use the same assumptions: INR 40 lakh is disbursed once, the course lasts 24 months, the grace period is 12 months and repayment then runs for 120 monthly instalments. Rates stay at the published starting points of 9% secured and 10.25% unsecured. Fees, margin, insurance, property costs, exchange-rate movement and semester-wise disbursement are excluded.

ICICI explains why the study-period payment must be included:

During the moratorium period, simple interest is charged on the outstanding principal amount. ICICI Bank, Education Loan FAQs

The KFS must show whether the family pays that interest during study or whether the sanctioned repayment treatment differs.

Monthly simple interest = principal x annual rate / 12

Estimated balance after 36 months = principal + (principal x annual rate x 36 / 12)

Pay interest during study. The full simple interest is paid every month for 36 months. The regular EMI then begins on the original INR 40 lakh principal.

Route and starting rate Interest paid during study (INR per month) EMI for 120 months (INR per month) Total of 36 interest payments plus 120 EMIs (INR lakh)
Secured at 9% 30,000 50,670 71.60
Unsecured at 10.25% 34,167 53,416 76.40

Starting rates checked on 18 September 2026. This single-disbursement estimate excludes margin, fees, insurance, property costs and exchange-rate movement, and does not model semester-wise draws.

Estimated interest added after 36 months. This is not a published ICICI repayment option. It estimates what happens if the full 36 months of simple interest is added once before 120 EMIs begin. Only the applicant’s KFS can establish the actual payment timing and treatment.

Route and starting rate Estimated balance after 36 months (INR) EMI for 120 months (INR per month) Total of 120 EMIs on estimated balance (INR lakh)
Secured at 9% 50,80,000 64,351 77.22
Unsecured at 10.25% 52,30,000 69,841 83.81

This is an estimate, not a published ICICI repayment option. The applicant’s KFS amortisation schedule shows the actual staged disbursements, interest treatment and payment dates.

Under Pay interest during study, the 10.25% unsecured start costs INR 4.79 lakh more than the 9% secured start. Under Estimated interest added after 36 months, the difference is INR 6.59 lakh. Compared with paying interest every month, adding the estimated interest raises total payment by INR 5.62 lakh in the secured illustration and INR 7.41 lakh in the unsecured illustration. Actual cost can differ because ICICI may release money by semester and a floating rate can reset.

Which ICICI education-loan fees must appear in the Key Facts Statement?

For an unsecured INR 40 lakh loan, a 2% processing fee is INR 80,000 and the administrative cap is INR 5,000. If the current 18% GST rate for financial services applies, GST on the processing fee is INR 14,400. These three amounts total INR 99,400. The public line doesn’t settle GST on the administrative charge. CERSAI, where applicable, is separate.

Charge Published rule Amount on INR 40 lakh (INR) Route or uncertainty
Processing fee Up to 2% of the loan plus GST 80,000 fee plus 14,400 GST, assuming the current 18% GST rate applies Maximum public figure, not every offer
Administrative charge INR 5,000 or 0.25% of the loan, whichever is lower 5,000 Public page does not settle GST on this line
CERSAI registration INR 100 above INR 5 lakh 100 where registration applies Not added automatically to every unsecured route
Property, insurance, legal and valuation costs At actual cost or as stated in the offer Not published as one amount Relevant to secured routes and any financed premium

ICICI charge pages were read on 18 September 2026. The applicant’s KFS must show the payable proposal-specific amounts.

Other charges arise only after a specific event, such as cancellation, rate conversion or an overdue payment.

Trigger Published charge What to confirm
Cancellation of a non-digital loan, or a digital loan after its 15-day cooling-off period and before the first EMI INR 2,500 Whether the processing fee or any tax is refundable
Floating-to-fixed conversion INR 3,000 The new rate, APR and schedule before conversion
Fixed-to-floating conversion 0.5% of principal outstanding for a fixed tenure up to 37 months; 2% above 37 months The principal used and tax treatment
Overdue payment 5% a year on the overdue sum The overdue amount and number of days used

Trigger charges come from ICICI’s Education Loan Interest Rates and Charges page read on 18 September 2026.

ICICI gives one important limit on an overdue-payment charge:

There will be no capitalisation of penal charges ICICI Bank, Important Notice on Penal Charges

This means the penal charge should not itself be added to principal for further interest.

The current linked charge page does not state a processing-fee refund rule. An older separate page describes a 1% to 2% processing fee as non-refundable, but its other figures do not align with the current linked page. A visa refusal should therefore not be assumed to create or remove a refund. The KFS, fee receipt and written cancellation terms must settle the refund amount, trigger, deadline and GST treatment before payment.

This timing matters because the fee can be collected before the visa result and before any university payment is released. A verbal assurance that the amount will be returned later does not change the family’s exposure. Without a complete written refund rule, the family is comparing a known upfront payment with an uncertain recovery.

The RBI’s commercial-bank conduct Directions, updated 1 July 2026, require the KFS to include the APR computation and the amortisation schedule. Third-party charges recovered through the bank, such as insurance or legal charges, enter the APR and are disclosed separately.

The RBI requires the cost schedule to be included with the KFS:

The KFS shall also include a computation sheet of annual percentage rate (APR) Reserve Bank of India, KFS and APR rule

Use the APR sheet and amortisation schedule to compare two offers on the same amount and timing. The same RBI Directions say a bank cannot add a fee missing from the KFS during the loan without the borrower’s explicit consent.

Send this checklist to the relationship manager. Every blank should be completed in writing before the family pays a fee.

What happens after ICICI issues the sanction letter and before each disbursement?

Even after sanction, ICICI can require documents, completed security and payment instructions before each release. The family must also meet its contribution deadline and the institution’s payment schedule. An instant sanction can therefore arrive quickly without making the entire sanctioned amount immediately available.

ICICI’s standard terms allow payment to the borrower or to a person named in the borrower’s instruction. For example, ICICI may remit tuition directly to a university when the accepted written instruction names the university account. The accepted beneficiary depends on that instruction and the sanction conditions. A draw can also require proof of purpose, evidence of how an earlier draw was used, completed security and the family’s contribution. The instant-loan FAQ says disbursement may follow the institution’s semester fee schedule.

Step What happens What may still be required
1 ICICI identifies a route and indicative offer Final course, institution, applicant and credit assessment
2 The borrower accepts the KFS and sanction letter Acceptance within the proposal validity period and completed signatures
3 Security, margin and documents are completed Lien or property charge, insurance and the family’s share where applicable
4 Visa or institution evidence is completed The evidence required for that country, university and loan route
5 The first invoice and disbursement instruction are submitted Beneficiary details, purpose evidence and transfer documents
6 Later tranches follow the fee schedule New invoice, evidence of earlier use and any repeated margin or security condition

Destination rules determine what the sanction letter and transfer must support:

ICICI’s standard terms put a post-disbursement foreign-exchange shortfall on the family. Rupee depreciation between sanction and the university payment can therefore create an extra family contribution even where the original sanctioned amount looked sufficient.

The terms state the family’s obligation directly:

Borrower shall pay the balance shortfall amount to college/institute/university directly ICICI Bank, Standard Education Loan Terms

A weaker rupee after sanction can therefore create an additional amount the family must provide.

The same terms treat the money as disbursed on the date ICICI issues the cheque, pay order, authorisation or demand draft, which may be earlier than the day the beneficiary receives it. The KFS or disbursement advice should identify the date ICICI treats the money as disbursed and begins charging interest for the actual transfer method.

For every semester, place four dates on one family schedule: the university invoice date, the family margin date, the date ICICI begins charging interest and the day the institution must receive cleared funds. The sanction amount alone does not show whether these dates can be met. A transfer delay or exchange-rate change can therefore leave the family with a shortfall even after ICICI records the tranche as disbursed.

How do tax deduction and TCS work on an ICICI education loan from April 2026?

Who can claim: The claimant must meet four tests before using this deduction. Under section 129 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, an individual can claim for a qualifying loan taken for self, spouse, child or a student for whom the individual is legal guardian.

What qualifies: Interest must actually be paid from income chargeable to tax on the qualifying loan. ICICI qualifies through the banking-company definition, so a separate NBFC notification is not needed.

How long: The deduction runs from the first year in which qualifying interest is paid and for up to seven following tax years, with no monetary cap stated in section 129. Which regime: It is available only under the old tax regime. These rules apply from 1 April 2026, when section 129 replaced the earlier section 80E reference. Individual circumstances can still require professional tax advice.

The Act anchors those conditions in the interest actually paid:

shall be allowed a deduction of amount paid as interest during a tax year Income-tax Act, 2025, section 129(1)

The practical consequence is that a sanction alone does not create the deduction. The eligible individual must make the qualifying interest payment.

Section 394 covers tax collected at source, or TCS, on money sent abroad. A qualifying education remittance funded by an ICICI education loan has nil TCS. A self-funded education remittance has 2% TCS on the part above INR 10 lakh from 1 April 2026, under the Finance Act, 2026. For nil TCS, the authorised dealer must classify the transfer as education funded by the qualifying ICICI loan. The family should retain the sanction letter, disbursement advice, university invoice and remittance record.

Self-funded education TCS = (annual qualifying remittance minus INR 10 lakh) x 2%

For INR 30 lakh of self-funded education remittance in one year, the calculation is INR 20 lakh x 2%, or INR 40,000. For a qualifying ICICI-loan-funded education remittance, the TCS is nil. TCS is a cash-flow collection credited to the remitter, not a statement that the person’s final tax liability is INR 40,000.

How does ICICI compare with public banks, private banks, NBFCs and overseas lenders?

These tables are shortlist signals, not an APR comparison. The ICICI row is the baseline. A family should ask every Indian lender for a KFS on the same sanctioned amount, disbursement pattern and tenure before comparing APR. For an overseas lender, check country, programme, residence and cosigner eligibility before looking at price.

Indian bank shortlistICICI is the baseline. Public figures identify whom to ask, not the final cheapest offer.

Sallie Mae For most student loans, a non-US citizen must reside in the US, attend school in the US and apply with a creditworthy cosigner No universal applicant APR used here The cosigner must be a US citizen or permanent resident, so this is not a pre-departure substitute for every Indian student

Primary lender pages were checked on 18 September 2026. Availability and starting rates can change. Each row remains subject to eligibility and a current written offer.

A no-cosigner foreign loan can still require payments during study and can add currency-conversion and transfer costs. Prodigy’s public terms, for example, state USD 100 monthly during study and grace for most full-time students. A foreign-currency contract also leaves exchange-rate movement and provider charges with the household.

What should you arrange before repaying or closing the loan from abroad?

A floating-rate individual education loan carries no part-prepayment or full-prepayment charge under the current RBI commercial-bank conduct Directions. The protection applies even with a co-borrower, without a lock-in and regardless of the source of prepayment. ICICI’s current charge schedule lists a 2% charge on a fixed-rate loan prepaid within 37 months, with nil charge after 37 months.

The RBI states the floating-rate protection directly:

a bank shall not levy pre-payment charges Reserve Bank of India, pre-payment rule

This removes the charge for an eligible floating-rate prepayment, but it does not remove the bank’s closure process.

  • Before departure: The repayment account or mandate, online access, current email and mobile details, part-payment channel and foreclosure-quote method should be recorded.
  • During repayment: Each part-payment receipt, revised balance, interest certificate and any rate-reset notice should be retained. The family should also confirm whether an extra payment reduces EMI, tenure or both.
  • After final payment: The closure request, no-objection certificate, final account statement, original-property return and fixed-deposit lien removal should be tracked where applicable.

ICICI hadn’t published one complete NRI education-loan closure guide when checked on 18 September 2026, so these service steps should be confirmed in writing before departure.

What should you watch out for before accepting an ICICI education loan?

The offer is ready to compare only when the route, cost and disbursement conditions are written together. A family should compare one complete written file, not scattered webpages or verbal statements. These seven points are the ones most likely to change the family’s cash requirement.

  • The INR 3 crore and INR 1 crore lines belong to different public routes. The sanction letter needs to name the applicable one.
  • The 10.25% unsecured figure is a starting rate. The KFS APR is the comparable cost.
  • No public margin applies to every route. Confirm the contribution amount and its deadline in the sanction letter.
  • Instant sanction does not remove first-draw and later-tranche conditions.
  • A currency move after release can create another family-funded gap under ICICI’s standard terms.
  • The current linked page does not settle a processing-fee refund after cancellation or visa refusal. The KFS and fee receipt need the written rule.
  • Floating prepayment is protected by RBI. A fixed-rate loan prepaid within 37 months can still cost 2%.

RBI gives the borrower three specific protections. The KFS must be in a language the borrower understands, show APR and carry the amortisation schedule. For this loan tenor, it must remain valid for at least three working days and the bank is bound if the borrower accepts within that period. The family should write the KFS receipt date and acceptance deadline on the first page, then compare before that deadline. A bank fee outside the KFS needs explicit consent.

Use the four-question form below to get an estimated side-by-side comparison of rates, fees and EMIs for the amount you need. It is an estimate, not a binding lender quote.

Key takeaways

  • ICICI’s INR 3 crore collateral-free line belongs to a pre-approved instant offer for eligible existing customers, while another page says up to INR 1 crore for premier institutes.
  • The abroad starting rates checked on 18 September 2026 were 9% secured and 10.25% unsecured, but the KFS APR and amortisation schedule show the applicant’s real cost.
  • In the INR 40 lakh single-disbursement estimate, pay interest during study gives an INR 53,416 unsecured EMI. Estimated interest added after 36 months gives INR 69,841, but this second scenario is not a published ICICI repayment option.
  • On INR 40 lakh, the known maximum from the processing fee, assumed GST on that fee and the administrative charge is INR 99,400, assuming the current 18% GST rate applies to the processing fee. GST on the administrative charge remains unsettled.
  • An instant sanction letter does not remove signatures, margin, security, invoice or later-tranche conditions, and ICICI’s terms put a post-disbursement forex shortfall on the family.
  • A qualifying ICICI-loan-funded education remittance has nil TCS, while section 129 needs actual interest payment from income chargeable to tax under the old regime.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an ICICI Bank education loan for abroad without collateral?

Yes, but ICICI publishes more than one collateral-free route and does not give one universal unsecured ceiling for every applicant. The instant pre-approved page reaches INR 3 crore for eligible existing customers, while a separate ICICI grid says up to INR 1 crore for premier institutes. Your sanction letter must name the route.

Is the ICICI INR 3 crore education loan without collateral available to everyone?

No, the INR 3 crore collateral-free line appears on the instant pre-approved route for eligible existing customers and remains subject to the course, institution and assessment. An applicant without that offer cannot treat the headline maximum as an entitlement or as the likely sanctioned amount.

What is the ICICI abroad education-loan interest rate?

ICICI’s current page says secured abroad loans start at 9% and unsecured loans start at 10.25%, but the KFS contains the applicant’s actual rate and APR. The final rate varies with security, institution, course, applicant and co-applicant profile and credit history.

Is a co-applicant mandatory for an ICICI education loan?

The ICICI instant-loan FAQ says a co-applicant may be required depending on the programme, amount and repayment capacity. A permitted relative is not automatically acceptable. Credit history, existing obligations, age and repayment capacity remain part of the individual assessment.

What is the processing fee on an ICICI education loan?

ICICI publishes a processing fee up to 2% of the loan amount plus GST, with a separate administrative charge capped at INR 5,000. On INR 40 lakh, INR 99,400 is the known maximum from those three stated components: INR 80,000 processing, INR 14,400 GST and INR 5,000 administration, assuming the current 18% GST rate applies to the processing fee. ICICI’s public line does not settle GST on the administrative charge. CERSAI, insurance, property, legal or valuation costs are separate where applicable.

Does interest accrue during the ICICI moratorium?

Yes, ICICI says simple interest is charged on outstanding principal during the moratorium, while the payment amount and any addition of unpaid interest depend on the sanctioned repayment mode. Its public pages list partial simple interest, simple interest and EMI modes. The KFS amortisation schedule shows the actual rupee treatment.

Can ICICI sanction the loan before the visa?

ICICI advertises instant sanction and pre-visa support on some pages, but sanction remains conditional approval. Disbursement still needs final documents, signatures and bank formalities. The institution invoice, family margin, completed security and required visa or institution evidence can also be needed before the first draw or a later tranche.

Can I prepay an ICICI education loan without charges?

A floating-rate individual education loan has no prepayment charge under the current RBI rule, including part-payment and full closure without a lock-in. ICICI publishes a 2% charge when a fixed-rate loan is prepaid within 37 months, followed by nil after 37 months.
