What is the WashU Olin Master of Accounting?
This comparison covers the 33-credit, 12-month WashU Olin Master of Accounting. The official 2026-27 record identifies a full-time, in-person master of accounting focused on advanced accounting, assurance and analytics. It excludes online, part-time and similarly named WashU degrees, keeping the costs and admission analysis tied to one catalogue programme.
For an Indian applicant, the decision turns on three separate tests: whether prior study matches the published prerequisites; whether the file meets the school’s current admission and English rules; and whether INR 89.88 lakh before flights and a housing deposit is defensible. The course map develops financial reporting, assurance, accounting analytics and professional judgement, ending in the accounting experiential requirement. That sequence should justify the cost without relying on the WashU name alone.
How much does the WashU Olin Master of Accounting cost for an Indian student?
The current planning case is USD 93,638, about INR 89.88 lakh. It combines the published 2026-27 tuition basis, mandatory school fees, a St. Louis living allowance for 12 months, health insurance where itemised, the application fee, SEVIS and the F-1 visa charge. It is a comparison model, not a WashU invoice.
| Item | INR | Local currency | When it is due |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-27 Olin programme tuition | INR 55.94 lakh | USD 58,280 | Across the programme |
| Mandatory school and student fees | INR 2.59 lakh | USD 2,700 | Across enrolled terms |
| Housing, food, books, transport and personal costs for 12 months | INR 28.03 lakh | USD 29,200 | Budgeted through the study period |
| WashU student health insurance | INR 2.81 lakh | USD 2,923 | Billed annually for international students |
| Graduate application | INR 0.00 lakh | USD 0 | At application |
| SEVIS I-901 fee | INR 0.34 lakh | USD 350 | Before the visa interview |
| F-1 visa application | INR 0.18 lakh | USD 185 | At visa booking |
| Full-programme planning total | INR 89.88 lakh | USD 93,638 | Before flights and a housing deposit |
The table treats the SEVIS and visa charges as separate payments. It does not add a second visa-maintenance total because the complete living plan already covers the study period. Converted at USD 1 = INR 95.99, using ECB reference rates dated 30 September 2026.
Graduate funding may include assistantships, fellowships, grants and scholarships; availability and conditions vary.WashU graduate financial support
Tuition follows the published school schedule for Master of Accounting and the 33-credit route. A longer completion pattern or a later annual rate can increase it.
The living allowance covers housing, food, books, local transport and personal costs for 12 months. Rent choices can move this line more than small university fees.
Flights, foreign-exchange spreads, a housing deposit and contingency remain outside the table. Scholarships reduce the estimate only after a written award.
Refresh every figure against the offer, student account and I-20 funding instruction before paying a deposit.
Can an Indian entrant meet WashU Olin Master of Accounting entry rules?
The first check uses the exact programme requirements, not a university-wide summary. The file needs a recognised bachelor’s degree, preparation in accounting foundations or the published preparation route, the published English evidence and every required document. Academic history is reviewed in context, so no single indicator decides the result.
| Requirement | Published rule | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Degree match (India) | a bachelor's degree from a recognised institution | Map the transcript to accounting foundations or the published preparation route |
| Academic record (India) | WashU publishes holistic programme review rather than a universal admission GPA floor | Submit complete transcripts and grading context |
| English (India) | IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 125, GATEWAY 495, or TOEFL 5.0 new scale / 90 old scale, unless exempt | Follow the exact school waiver and score rule |
| GRE or GMAT (India) | GRE or GMAT not routinely required | Follow the exact programme rule |
| Academic purpose (India) | A coherent reason for advancing into advanced accounting, assurance and analytics | Connect previous documented proof to the published culminating assessment |
| International records (India) | Original-language records with complete official English translations where needed | Do not upload self-translated or incomplete records |
The first transcript audit should find concrete proof of financial reporting. A useful audit records the module title, mark, credit weight and syllabus topic so an assessor does not have to infer readiness from the institution name.
Next, isolate documented proof for assurance. A laboratory, project or substantial assignment is stronger than a list of buzzwords because it shows what was built, measured or decided and what limitations remained.
The statement should explain why accounting analytics is the next academic step and why WashU’s professional judgement route serves it. Repeating the course webpage does not answer that personal progression question.
Finally, English, recommendations and translations remain independent document checks. A file that clears the academic match can remain incomplete if an accepted score, literal translation or required referee response is missing.
Within Master of Accounting, the relationship between financial reporting and accounting analytics is a readiness test for accountant ambitions. A file showing only assurance leaves the professional judgement part of this academic progression unexplained.
A future accounting analytics specialist still needs documented preparation in accounting foundations or the published preparation route. For Master of Accounting, career intent cannot substitute for that academic base, while the academic record remains one part of a broader selection model.

Three checks that can block a Master of Accounting application
A profile indicator is not an offer promise
WashU publishes holistic programme review rather than a universal admission GPA floor. Review can still distinguish candidates through subject depth, statement quality, recommendations and the completed file.
The degree title cannot prove prerequisites
A broad Indian degree name may hide whether accounting foundations or the published preparation route was studied. Add syllabi or official descriptions when course titles do not make the preparation clear.
English rules can be course-specific
IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 125, GATEWAY 495, or TOEFL 5.0 new scale / 90 old scale, unless exempt. Accepted tests, waiver evidence and score validity must follow the exact school rule in force for the intended intake.
How should an Indian applicant apply for WashU Olin Master of Accounting?
Apply through the school’s official graduate route. Fall 2027 rounds close 15 April 2027; earlier rounds are 8 October, 7 January and 25 February. Submit earlier for transcript evaluation, funding evidence, I-20 production and visa preparation. A personal buffer of at least 12 weeks is sensible before intended travel; that is planning advice, not WashU’s processing promise.
Select the exact campus programme, upload the academic and programme documents, submit the no-fee application, monitor the portal, clear offer conditions, document funding, and complete the I-20 and F-1 process.
| Start by | Task | Takes | Why this date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 Nov 2026 | Complete English evidence | 75 days | Meet IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 125, GATEWAY 495, or TOEFL 5.0 new scale / 90 old scale, unless exempt with time for one retake. |
| 18 Dec 2026 | Audit the course match | 14 days | Match prior study to accounting foundations or the published preparation route and the published GPA rule. |
| 01 Jan 2027 | Prepare programme documents | 28 days | Collect official records, translations, statement, CV and any required recommendations or test. |
| 29 Jan 2027 | Submit the WashU application | 1 day | Use the exact campus-immersion plan and keep the receipt. |
| 30 Jan 2027 | Clear conditions and prepare F-1 | 75 days | Fund the offer, obtain the I-20, pay SEVIS and book the visa process. |
The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by Washington University in St. Louis.
Build the file around Financial Reporting and Assurance, not around a generic WashU statement. Use earlier coursework or employment to show readiness, then identify the gap that the published curriculum is meant to close.
The programme reports fall 2027 rounds close 15 april 2027; earlier rounds are 8 october, 7 january and 25 february. A priority date can be followed by space-available review, while a final date closes the published window. Neither should be confused with the separate international I-20 timing needed to reach campus.
After admission, read the offer and My WashU task list line by line. Financial guarantee, final transcripts, immunisation records and I-20 processing can each continue after the academic decision and can each delay enrolment if ignored.
For F-1 planning, check the SEVIS I-901 step and the US visa fee page directly. Fee payment does not guarantee a visa, and a programme offer does not replace consular review.
This page covers full-time campus study. Where WashU also lists Online, select the campus-immersion plan because the visa and STEM-OPT discussion does not apply to WashU Online in the same way.
What jobs can follow WashU Olin Master of Accounting?
The curriculum supports directions such as accountant, audit analyst, financial reporting analyst and accounting analytics specialist. The university presents this course as STEM designated. The OPT framework is work authorisation rather than a placement or sponsorship guarantee. Each direction still needs role-specific, inspectable work samples.
| Measure | Finding | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| 2017-2021 admitted cohorts | 99% graduation | Olin reports 262 enrolled; 260 graduated; completion evidence, not placement or salary |
| Financial Reporting | Accountant | Documented proof from Financial Reporting |
| Assurance | Audit Analyst | Documented proof from Assurance |
| Accounting Analytics | Financial Reporting Analyst | Role direction inferred from the curriculum |
| Guaranteed placement or sponsorship | None published | No exact-course guarantee located |
Olin's cohort result is graduation evidence. The role directions are curriculum-linked possibilities, not measured employment, salary, sponsorship or promotion probabilities.
For a accountant application, preserve the brief, inputs, method, decisions and limitations from Financial Reporting. That record gives a recruiter something more reliable than a transcript line or a claim that the degree was practical.
The audit analyst route needs a different proof item from Assurance. Explain the trade-off made, the documented proof rejected and the effect of uncertainty so the work shows judgement rather than only tool familiarity.
A candidate aiming at financial reporting analyst should use the culminating assessment to join both samples around one problem. A coherent portfolio can then show progression across the degree without asking the WashU name to stand in for capability.
F-1 graduates can normally seek up to 12 months of OPT, and an eligible STEM degree may support a further 24-month extension if every rule is met. The USCIS STEM-OPT guidance controls that process and does not require any employer to hire the graduate.
Master of Accounting outcome check 1 uses ACCT 5680 M&A Accounting for a possible accountant direction. It doesn’t turn course credit into a hiring promise; Master of Accounting students still need a retained artefact that shows the decision, evidence and limitation.
Master of Accounting outcome check 2 uses MGT 5600 Professional Business Communication for a possible audit analyst direction. It doesn’t turn course credit into a hiring promise; Master of Accounting students still need a retained artefact that shows the decision, evidence and limitation.
Master of Accounting outcome check 3 uses ACCT 5003 Not-For-Profit Accounting for a possible financial reporting analyst direction. It doesn’t turn course credit into a hiring promise; Master of Accounting students still need a retained artefact that shows the decision, evidence and limitation.
Master of Accounting outcome check 4 uses ACCT 5004 Fraud Prevention and Internal Controls for a possible accounting analytics specialist direction. It doesn’t turn course credit into a hiring promise; Master of Accounting students still need a retained artefact that shows the decision, evidence and limitation.
Master of Accounting outcome check 5 uses ACCT 5005 Information Technology Control and Audit for a possible accountant direction. It doesn’t turn course credit into a hiring promise; Master of Accounting students still need a retained artefact that shows the decision, evidence and limitation.
Within Master of Accounting, ACCT 5640 Auditing can support a accountant direction when its assessed output demonstrates assurance. The course title by itself is not evidence of employment, salary, sponsorship or professional licensure.
Within Master of Accounting, ACCT 5650 Taxation of Business Entities can support a audit analyst direction when its assessed output demonstrates accounting analytics. The course title by itself is not evidence of employment, salary, sponsorship or professional licensure.
Within Master of Accounting, ACCT 5680 M&A Accounting can support a financial reporting analyst direction when its assessed output demonstrates professional judgement. The course title by itself is not evidence of employment, salary, sponsorship or professional licensure.
Olin reports 262 enrolled and 260 graduated among 2017-2021 admitted cohorts: 99% graduation. This does not establish CPA eligibility in a particular jurisdiction, placement or salary.
Who is WashU Olin Master of Accounting for, and who should avoid it?
A strong fit already has accounting foundations or the published preparation route, wants assessed documented proof in accounting analytics and can fund INR 89.88 lakh without promised employment. A weak fit needs foundational repair, wants a different technical centre or depends on uncertain US earnings to make the course affordable.
| Verdict | Your background | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strong fit | Prepared for financial reporting | Earlier study supports progression into Financial Reporting. |
| Strong fit | Needs documented proof in professional judgement | The published culminating route can produce inspectable work. |
| Needs evidence | Still choosing between accountant and audit analyst | Electives must turn that uncertainty into one coherent capability map. |
| Needs evidence | Funding is close to the ceiling | The INR 89.88 lakh case excludes flights and a housing deposit. |
| Do not shortlist | Needs basic preparation before assurance | Graduate credits are too expensive to use mainly for prerequisite repair. |
| Do not shortlist | Needs a guaranteed US placement | No course-level job or sponsorship guarantee supports that assumption. |
The positive academic test begins with Financial Reporting. A suitable entrant recognises its foundation from previous work but still needs WashU’s graduate-level treatment to solve harder problems in advanced accounting, assurance and analytics.
The next fit question concerns Assurance. It should add a method or system that the entrant cannot already demonstrate. If it mostly repeats a strong undergraduate module, examine the elective freedom before paying for the overlap.
The professional test is whether a accountant hiring manager can inspect output from accounting analytics. A useful artefact states the problem, data or constraints, the chosen method, the result and the limits of that result.
Someone pursuing audit analyst work must also value professional judgement. If that part of the degree consumes substantial assessed time but has little use in the intended role, a differently structured master’s may be the better buy.
The final academic trade-off sits in the choice among project, thesis, portfolio or examination where WashU lists them. A thesis serves research depth, an applied project serves delivery documented proof, and a portfolio serves synthesis. Only routes actually published for this course belong in the decision.
Affordability is separate from academic fit. The estimate uses USD 1 at INR 95.99, so exchange movement changes the rupee amount even when WashU leaves a dollar charge unchanged.
The campus choice also matters. This page uses St. Louis, Missouri and in-person study. An entrant selecting an online version would face different attendance, visa and work-authorisation consequences and should not reuse this page’s F-1 assumptions.
Applicants can ask current Master of Accounting students about access to preferred electives, team formation, faculty supervision and the weekly load. The research pass did not locate three independent exact-course accounts, so those lived details remain questions rather than reported facts.
Master of Accounting fit check 1 asks whether ACCT 5007 Analysis of Financial Institutions and Financial Instruments advances assurance. Prior exposure can’t settle that alone: compare the WashU syllabus with earlier assignments and identify the capability Master of Accounting would add rather than repeat.

The fit question for Master of Accounting becomes concrete when the published curriculum adds accounting analytics. Someone targeting audit analyst work benefits when that study closes a documented gap; it is weaker value when an earlier degree already proves the same capability.
The fit question for Master of Accounting becomes concrete when the published curriculum adds professional judgement. Someone targeting financial reporting analyst work benefits when that study closes a documented gap; it is weaker value when an earlier degree already proves the same capability.

- Complete 33 approved graduate credit hours.
- Follow the published choice among the accounting experiential requirement.
- Confirm approved electives, prerequisites and the plan of study with the academic unit.
Use the required sequence to establish readiness for Financial Reporting, then choose electives that deepen accounting analytics instead of creating several disconnected introductions. The official plan of study remains the authority for what can count together.
WashU can revise course availability and approved lists. Recheck every code, credit value, campus offering and culminating route before accepting an offer, especially where the catalogue publishes an area rather than a closed list of named electives.
Should an Indian entrant shortlist the WashU Olin Master of Accounting?
Shortlist the WashU Olin Master of Accounting when your transcript already supports accounting foundations or the published preparation route, your intended work uses accounting analytics and the full INR 89.88 lakh plan is fundable without depending on uncertain work income. Each of those remains a separate threshold.
The strongest case connects Financial Reporting to Assurance, then uses the culminating route to create inspectable proof. That is a clearer reason to choose this course than a general wish to study at a large US university.
Applicants should not choose Master of Accounting for work-authorisation assumptions alone. The 33-credit course must justify the INR 89.88 lakh planning case before flights and a housing deposit; WashU publishes no guaranteed job, salary or sponsorship outcome for this exact degree.
