What is the Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security?
Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security is a two-year, English-taught, full-time 120 ECTS programme in Copenhagen. AAU publishes tuition of DKK 27,800 per semester for this planning case, and the complete low-end two-year plan is INR 46.03 lakh. The application depends on matching your transcript against the named subject minima before paying for tests or an application.
The academic focus is network security, cryptography, secure systems, IoT security, governance and compliance. This page covers September 2027 admission and the 15 January 2027 fee-paying deadline. The degree moves from distributed-systems security and cryptography into attack-and-defence work, then offers a governance, development, training, internship or long-thesis route. It is broader than an ethical-hacking course because regulation and enterprise compliance are formal electives. Exact elective availability can change with enrolment and study-board decisions.
How much does Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security cost?
The low-end two-year planning total is DKK 318,210, about INR 46.03 lakh. It combines four current tuition instalments, 24 months at the lower end of Denmark’s official student budget, AAU’s application fee and SIRI’s 2026 permit fee. It isn’t a fixed AAU invoice and can change with the final 2027 rates.
| Item | INR | Local currency | When it is due |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuition, four semesters | INR 16.08 lakh | DKK 111,200 | DKK 27,800 before each semester |
| Living plan, 24 months | INR 29.33 lakh | DKK 202,800 | DKK 8,450 monthly low-end budget |
| AAU application fee | INR 16,634 | DKK 1,150 / EUR 150 | Before AAU processes the fee-paying file |
| Student residence permit | INR 44,262 | DKK 3,060 | 2026 SIRI study-case fee; recheck for 2027 |
| Low-end two-year planning total | INR 46.03 lakh | DKK 318,210 | Before flights and housing deposit |
SIRI's 2026 self-support figure is DKK 7,426 per month for up to 12 months. This is proof that the student controls funds, not an extra fee added to the total. Converted using DKK 1 = INR 14.4647133588 on 7 October 2026 from the ECB reference rates. The total uses the low end of the official monthly budget and excludes flights, rental deposit and future fee changes.
Study in Denmark’s lower monthly case adds DKK 3,000 rent, DKK 300 insurance, DKK 200 streaming, DKK 400 books, DKK 250 phone, DKK 2,000 food, DKK 300 transport and DKK 2,000 personal expenses. Copenhagen housing can make the lower rent assumption unrealistic, so Copenhagen applicants should stress-test a higher figure.
AAU awards only about 15 scholarships each year across non-EU master’s applicants. The award includes a tuition waiver and a DKK 11,225 monthly stipend for four semesters, but AAU says students should not rely on it and may announce it after tuition is due.
AAU states that the EUR 150 fee covers up to three programme priorities for one intake. The fee is non-refundable after submission, so a subject-credit check should happen before payment.
Can an Indian graduate meet MSc Cyber Security entry requirements?
An Indian graduate can qualify only when the awarded degree and completed modules prove a 60 ECTS technical base with separate 10 ECTS mathematics, 20 ECTS core-technical and 10 ECTS security-related minima. AAU requires a recognised degree equivalent to a 180 ECTS Danish bachelor, programme-specific subject evidence and accepted English proof, then ranks qualified files because admission is restricted.
“Aalborg University does not carry out pre-assessments of your bachelor degree in order to determine if you are eligible for admission or not.” Aalborg University admission requirements
For MSc Cyber Security, AAU won’t confirm eligibility before the complete application is assessed.
| Requirement | Published rule | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Relevant degree (India) | A technical-science, engineering or natural-science bachelor with 60 ECTS across computing, electronics and mathematics | Submit official course descriptions for the full 60 ECTS academic match |
| Mathematics (India) | At least 10 ECTS across areas such as linear algebra, discrete mathematics, probability, statistics, cryptography or calculus | Map only completed bachelor-level mathematics |
| Core technical subjects (India) | At least 20 ECTS in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering | Show programming, systems, electronics or software content in official syllabi |
| Security-related depth (India) | At least 10 ECTS in areas such as networks, distributed systems, IoT, cloud, databases, communications or cyber security | Highlight the exact security or infrastructure content and its assessment |
| English evidence (India) | IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in every section, or an accepted equivalent | Upload the score or test-registration receipt with the application |
| Restricted admission (India) | Qualified applicants are ranked by grades, extra relevant ECTS and the content and level of relevant subjects | Submit complete subject descriptions because minimum eligibility does not secure a place |
| GRE or GMAT (India) | AAU publishes no GRE or GMAT requirement for this programme | Invest preparation time in the transcript and syllabus evidence instead |
A first-pass spreadsheet should lists every completed module, official credit, teaching hours where published, syllabus topics and assessment. Place each module against one published requirement only where its content genuinely supports that requirement.
AAU does not offer pre-assessment. The university also says supplementary courses cannot be used to repair the programme-specific requirements for these technical degrees, so a missing bachelor-level subject usually means choosing a different programme.
The application can include an official curriculum, syllabus or link even though AAU labels it optional in the general document list. For these subject-heavy programmes, that material is the clearest way to explain a transcript title that says little about the actual content.
Four checks that decide an Indian application
Do not convert Indian credits to ECTS by guesswork
AAU assesses the official workload, content and level in the submitted degree. Build a transparent module map, but let the study board decide equivalence rather than multiplying Indian credits by an invented factor.
A relevant degree title does not replace the subject minima
The published curriculum names a 60 ECTS technical base with separate 10 ECTS mathematics, 20 ECTS core-technical and 10 ECTS security-related minima. A broad Computer Science, Electronics or Engineering title is not enough when the transcript and syllabi do not prove those components.
English-medium study from India is not an exemption
AAU does not accept a bachelor’s or master’s taught in English as proof by itself. IELTS Academic must reach 6.5 overall and 6.0 in every section, and AAU rejects IELTS One Skill Retake, PTE and Duolingo.
Minimum eligibility is not an offer
Restricted admission ranks qualified applicants by grades, additional relevant ECTS and the academic level and content of relevant subjects. A file can meet every minimum and still miss a place.
How should an Indian student apply for MSc Cyber Security?
Apply through Denmark’s Application Portal, pay AAU through its webshop and upload the fee receipt to every programme priority. The fee-paying deadline is 15 January 2027 at 23:59 CET, so transcript mapping, English testing and signed document collection must begin before the portal opens in December.
Use the Danish Application Portal, AAU's webshop and then the ST1 residence-permit route after full admission and tuition payment.
| Start by | Task | Takes | Why this date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 Oct 2026 | Secure accepted English proof | 75 days | Allow time for score release and a complete retest if one section misses 6.0. |
| 14 Dec 2026 | Prepare signed PDF documents | 30 days | Merge each diploma, transcript and translation into its own PDF below 10 MB. |
| 16 Dec 2026 | Map the subject requirements | 28 days | Match signed bachelor records and official syllabi to every named ECTS area. |
| 13 Jan 2027 | Submit, pay and upload receipt | 2 days | Rank no more than three AAU choices and upload the EUR 150 receipt to each. |
The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by Aalborg University.
AAU requires a passport, signed and stamped diploma and transcripts, accepted English evidence or a test-registration receipt, and translations into English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian when needed. A non-EU applicant also uploads the application-fee receipt and, where available, the home university’s grading-system description.
The Application Portal accepts no more than three AAU priorities and issues only the highest possible offer. Check messages frequently because an offer normally gives only a few days to accept, and an ignored offer is withdrawn.
AAU can conditionally admit a fee-paying applicant who is finishing the degree or English test, but the published September deadline for a non-EU applicant without an existing Danish permit is 20 April for the remaining admission evidence. Conditional admission does not permit study until all conditions are cleared.
Applicants pay once per admission cycle, then attach the receipt to each of at most three priorities. It cannot be moved to another intake.
What jobs can follow Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security?
The programme’s published career directions include security engineer, security consultant, risk analyst, incident-response specialist or security architect, but AAU publishes no audited placement rate or salary distribution for this named programme. Employers can inspect semester projects, any external-organisation project and the thesis more directly than a broad university ranking.
| Measure | Finding | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Programme career directions | security engineer, security consultant, risk analyst, incident-response specialist or security architect | AAU programme page |
| Programme placement rate | Not published | No audited named-cohort figure on the programme or curriculum pages |
| Student work right | 90 hours per month | September to May, with full-time work in June to August |
| Graduate job search | Up to 1 year | For affected applications submitted from 1 October 2026 |
The one-year permit creates job-search time after an eligible state-approved Danish degree. It does not guarantee work, salary or an employer-sponsored long-term route.
The strongest employment evidence is not the degree title alone. MSc Cyber Security still needs portfolio evidence. A project brief, method, individual contribution and measured result show an employer more than a module title alone.
SIRI’s change on 1 October 2026 reduces the ordinary post-study job-seeking period from three years to one year for affected new student-permit applications. The same change generally removes the accompanying-family route for those new applications, which can materially change the decision for married applicants.
A student permit allows 90 hours of work per month from September to May and full-time work in June, July and August. Part-time income is uncertain and should not be used to close the upfront tuition or permit-funds requirement.
How is Aalborg University ranked for MSc Cyber Security?
Aalborg University is #329 in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and 251-300 overall in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. These are context, not a programme admission rule or graduate outcome. It doesn’t measure this named programme, admission difficulty or graduate employment.

|---|---|---|
| QS | #329 overall | World University Rankings 2027 |
| Times Higher Education | 251-300 overall | World University Rankings 2026 |

Who is MSc Cyber Security for, and who should avoid it?
MSc Cyber Security fits an applicant whose completed bachelor study already satisfies the detailed entry table and whose planned role benefits from the published project sequence. It isn’t a good fit when prerequisite gaps require foundation teaching, the budget depends on an uncertain scholarship, or the decision requires a published placement guarantee.
It isn’t a good fit when you need foundation teaching, a mainly individual lecture format, a guaranteed scholarship or a published placement result to make the finances work.
| Verdict | Your background | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strong fit | Strong documented academic match | The awarded degree already proves a 60 ECTS technical base with separate 10 ECTS mathematics, 20 ECTS core-technical and 10 ECTS security-related minima. |
| Strong fit | Project-led technical learner | AAU's semester projects and oral project examinations suit collaborative design and implementation work. |
| Strong fit | Portfolio-focused specialist | The student can use projects and the thesis to build role-specific proof for security engineer, security consultant, risk analyst, incident-response specialist or security architect. |
| Needs evidence | Adjacent-discipline graduate | The degree title may look relevant while one or more named bachelor-level subject minima remain missing. |
| Do not shortlist | Beginner conversion applicant | The programme advances an established technical base and does not replace missing prerequisite study. |
| Do not shortlist | Placement-dependent budget | AAU publishes no guaranteed job, programme-level placement rate or salary distribution. |
Academic fit comes before brand fit. A useful comparison puts the full module list beside your prior study and intended role, then identify which projects, electives and thesis topic add capabilities that your bachelor did not already cover.
The lower planning case is INR 46.03 lakh before flights and housing deposit. The programme is not a sound choice if the budget works only with one of roughly 15 university scholarships or immediate part-time employment.
Collaborative problem-based learning is a real structural choice. Students are repeatedly assessed through group projects and oral project examinations, so applicants who strongly prefer independent written assessment should compare another teaching model.
What does the 120 ECTS MSc Cyber Security curriculum contain?
AAU publishes a four-semester, 120 ECTS curriculum built around projects, courses and a 30 ECTS standard thesis, with route-specific third-semester or long-thesis alternatives. The table lists every named module in the current curriculum, including electives and option modules. Students still need one valid semester from the published options and actual availability.

The note “Published AAU module” applies to 12 components in this table.
- The standard full-time award is 120 ECTS over four semesters
- AAU can cancel electives when programme-specific minimum enrolment is not reached
- The normal final semester is a 30 ECTS master's thesis, with long-thesis routes where the curriculum lists them
The table separates the valid routes through MSc Cyber Security; its alternatives are not one combined module list. Project and elective availability still determines the semester actually taken.
The list includes alternative routes, so its ECTS values must not be added into one total. Build one valid 30 ECTS semester at a time according to the option rules and confirm which electives actually run before enrolment.
Should an Indian applicant shortlist Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security?
Shortlist MSc Cyber Security only when the completed bachelor record clears every published prerequisite and the planned role genuinely needs this programme’s project sequence. It isn’t a beginner conversion route, and AAU’s restricted admission means meeting the minimum does not guarantee an offer.
The strongest case is a clear progression from prior study into assessed projects, an external collaboration or the thesis. The planning total of INR 46.03 lakh must also work without depending on a scarce scholarship, immediate part-time earnings or an unpublished placement result.
Two things are genuinely difficult. The subject-credit match must already exist inside the qualifying degree; post-degree certificates can’t repair a missing foundation where the programme forbids supplementation. A qualified file can still lose the restricted-admission ranking, while tuition and two years of living costs remain payable.

Frequently asked questions
How much is MSc Cyber Security at Aalborg University for Indian students?
AAU's current planning rate is DKK 27,800 per semester, making four-semester tuition DKK 111,200. Adding 24 months at the official low-end budget, the AAU application fee and SIRI's 2026 permit fee gives DKK 318,210, about INR 46.03 lakh. Flights, deposits and future fee changes are excluded.
What is the deadline for Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security?
A fee-paying applicant targeting September 2027 must submit through the Danish Application Portal by 15 January 2027 at 23:59 CET. AAU expects the portal to open in mid-December. Begin subject mapping, translations and English testing earlier because the deadline is for a complete submission, not the start of preparation.
What IELTS score does Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security require?
AAU requires IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in every section, or an accepted equivalent. IELTS One Skill Retake, PTE, Duolingo and an Indian degree taught in English are not accepted substitutes. The test must be no more than two years old at the application deadline.
Does Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security require GRE or GMAT?
AAU publishes no GRE or GMAT requirement for this programme. The academic decision instead depends on the recognised bachelor and a 60 ECTS technical base with separate 10 ECTS mathematics, 20 ECTS core-technical and 10 ECTS security-related minima. A test score, work certificate or online course cannot replace missing awarded bachelor-level subject evidence where the curriculum names a minimum.
Can I work while studying MSc Cyber Security in Denmark?
A student in an eligible state-approved Danish programme may work 90 hours per month from September through May and full time in June, July and August. The work allowance is not guaranteed income. Do not use expected part-time earnings to cover the initial tuition payment or the funds needed for the residence permit.
Can I stay in Denmark after Aalborg University MSc Cyber Security?
For affected student-permit applications submitted from 1 October 2026, SIRI says the post-study job-seeking residence period is up to one year, reduced from three years. It creates time to search for work but does not guarantee a job or long-term status. Turkish citizens covered by the Association Agreement can have different rights.
