NMAT Philippines is the medical-school admission test used before the professional medicine stage. The 40th percentile isn’t a safe universal target because each school can set a higher threshold. The college shortlist determines the working score, while result validity and the earliest school deadline determine the test date.

The current spread is material. CEM’s official FAQ states a 40th-percentile Commission floor, while UST and St Luke’s require at least 85 and UP College of Medicine requires at least 90. A score can therefore clear the national floor and still leave several intended schools unavailable.

What does NMAT decide in the Philippines?

NMAT supplies a percentile used by Philippine medical schools during admission. A percentile shows the percentage of examinees at or below the score. It isn’t the percentage of questions answered correctly, and it doesn’t replace the school’s degree, grade, document or interview requirements.

CEM sends the master list of results to authorised medical schools. The official result page separates the electronic result, the original Examinee Report Form and the school list. Each medical school decides which form belongs in its application file.

Who can write NMAT?

CEM’s eligibility rules cover college graduates, students graduating at the end of the current school year and other listed categories connected to medical admission. A Class XII student should not assume immediate eligibility. The planned BS or pre-medical stage must first place the applicant inside a listed category.

Registration depends on the exact current eligibility wording. When an Indian qualification or study stage doesn’t map cleanly, written answers from CEM and the intended medical school are stronger than an informal equivalence. The academic timeline remains provisional until both sides describe the applicant as eligible.

  • Current identity document matching the registration name
  • College or graduating-student evidence for the eligible category
  • A valid email address and registration account
  • A Philippine mailing address for the original result form
  • A test date inside the intended application calendar

What does the NMAT test?

NMAT has two parts and 240 items. The official test description says Part 1 measures mental ability through Verbal, Inductive Reasoning, Quantitative and Perceptual Acuity. Part 2 covers Biology, Physics, Social Science and Chemistry.

Test part Content What preparation should do
Part 1 Verbal, Inductive Reasoning, Quantitative and Perceptual Acuity Practise timed reasoning and accuracy across unfamiliar item forms
Part 2 Biology, Physics, Social Science and Chemistry Rebuild core concepts, then combine recall with timed questions

The official test description, not a coaching syllabus, defines the content areas.

Strong Class XII science doesn’t protect a candidate from Part 1 pacing losses, while a good reasoning score can’t compensate for neglected Biology, Physics or Chemistry. Separate accuracy and timing records for both parts reveal where preparation time has the highest return.

What NMAT percentile should an Indian student target?

The working target is the highest current published threshold among schools the applicant would genuinely attend, plus preparation margin. The Commission floor is a minimum for medical-school admission, not a universal competitive score.

School Current published NMAT level Result validity note Planning consequence
St Paul University Philippines At least 40th percentile Use current school rule Clears a lower published threshold
University of Santo Tomas At least 85th percentile Current AY 2026/27 admission page Needs preparation well above the floor
St Luke’s At least 85th percentile Result obtained within two years Time the attempt near the application
UP College of Medicine At least 90th percentile Current admission primer Use 90 as the minimum target if UP stays on the list
Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health Preferred 90th percentile Result within two years A preference isn’t the same as a guaranteed cut-off

Requirements checked on 20 August 2026 and must be rechecked for a later intake.

Working NMAT target = highest current requirement on your final shortlist + preparation margin

If the final shortlist contains UST, St Luke’s and UP, the highest published minimum is 90. Planning around 90 makes more sense than averaging 85 and 90. This formula is a planning rule, not an admission guarantee.

How often can NMAT be written?

CEM’s current FAQ allows unlimited lifetime attempts but only one attempt within a test cycle. A result is valid for no more than two years. These two rules create a timing tradeoff. Writing too early can waste validity, while writing too late can leave no cycle for improvement before applications.

“There is no limit to the number of times an applicant can take the NMAT. However, an examinee can take the NMAT only once in a test cycle.”Center for Educational Measurement

A well-placed first attempt leaves one later cycle before the earliest school deadline, with either result still inside the school’s accepted validity period. Repeated registration within the same cycle isn’t the available retry route.

  1. Fix the professional-school application month.
  2. Subtract the result-release time and school processing margin.
  3. Choose the latest first attempt that still leaves a later cycle.
  4. Check that the result remains under two years old at application.
  5. Recheck current CEM dates before paying.

How do NMAT results reach the student and schools?

CEM says electronic results are available after 20 CEM business days. The original Examinee Report Form follows by mail, and the master list goes to authorised medical schools. The current FAQ asks examinees to provide a Philippine mailing address for the original form.

The original form therefore needs a reliable Philippine recipient and a clear forwarding or collection arrangement. The electronic result can support time-sensitive applications where accepted, but the school decides which form belongs in its file.

The registration name needs to match the passport, academic records and school application. A mismatch can split one applicant across result and admission records and create avoidable follow-up.

How should NMAT fit the medical application calendar?

NMAT belongs between eligibility and the professional-school deadline. It is neither the first step after Class XII nor the final admission decision. College prerequisites, foreign documents and school-specific selection continue around it.

The medical-college evidence matrix fixes the shortlist, while the complete medicine route shows where BS or pre-medical study ends. One calendar can then connect CEM registration, the test, result release, foreign-document work and each school deadline.

  • Eligibility evidence is ready before registration
  • CEM registration closes after the planned academic stage
  • The electronic result precedes the earliest school deadline
  • Foreign documents progress during preparation
  • Every school deadline names the result form it accepts
  • The retry decision has its own later-cycle deadline

How should you build an NMAT preparation plan?

A timed diagnostic across both parts gives the preparation plan its starting evidence. Each error belongs to one of four useful categories, missing knowledge, wrong method, slow work or careless reading. A total score can’t show whether the next week belongs to Chemistry revision, quantitative reasoning or pacing.

Preparation phase Main work Evidence of progress Decision
Diagnostic Complete representative timed questions Accuracy and time by content area Set the weekly allocation
Concept repair Revise weak Part 2 subjects and Part 1 methods Untimed accuracy rises Move weak topics into mixed sets
Timed sets Practise sections under a fixed clock Fewer unanswered and rushed items Adjust pacing rules
Full simulations Combine both parts under test conditions Stable percentile indicators and stamina Keep or move the attempt date
Application buffer Prepare school documents while waiting No document blocks after results Submit when the score and file are ready

CEM’s official content description should control the topic map.

The error log carries evidence from one simulation into the next. It records the content area, the reason the first answer failed, the correct method and the time used. Progress appears as fewer recurring error types and steadier completion, not merely familiarity with a small question set.

Practice material remains useful only while it matches CEM’s current content areas. Coaching questions can supply volume, but they can’t add a test section or erase an official one. A new cycle therefore starts with a check of CEM’s delivery and registration guidance before the timetable is locked.

Two applicants with the same practice percentile can need different plans. One may have a shortlist topped by a 90th-percentile school and enough time for another cycle. The other may face an earlier deadline and a lower published threshold.

The first decision is about improvement; the second is about whether the present result keeps a genuine college option open. This is why the score never stands apart from the shortlist and calendar.

The final simulation phase measures stamina as well as accuracy. Stable completion across both parts is stronger evidence than one unusually high practice result, especially when the target schools sit near the upper end of the published threshold range.

The score target comes from the college shortlist, while the usable test date comes from the medical route. Fees and living costs remain separate decisions, covered in the medical fee guide and living budget.

Frequently asked questions

What is NMAT in the Philippines?

NMAT is the National Medical Admission Test used by Philippine medical schools. It produces a percentile rather than a raw percentage. Schools combine the result with their own academic, document and selection rules. It is different from India’s NEET, which remains separately relevant to an Indian foreign-medical applicant.

What is a good NMAT score in the Philippines?

A good score is one that clears the highest current requirement on your genuine shortlist with margin. The Commission floor is 40, while current published examples include 85 at UST and St Luke’s and 90 at UP College of Medicine. A national minimum alone isn’t a safe target.

How long is an NMAT score valid?

CEM says the NMAT score is valid for no more than two years. A school may also state how recent the result must be. The usable test window therefore ends before the earliest application deadline and begins late enough for the score to remain current across the intended shortlist.

How many times can I write NMAT?

CEM permits unlimited lifetime attempts but only one attempt within a test cycle. Improvement is possible in a later cycle, not through repeated registration in the same one. The practical limit comes from the remaining cycles before medical-school deadlines, not from a lifetime attempt cap.

When are NMAT results released?

CEM makes the electronic NMAT result available after 20 CEM business days. The original form follows by mail, while authorised medical schools receive the master list. Each school decides which evidence it accepts, and the original form needs a reliable Philippine mailing address.

Do Indian students need both NEET and NMAT?

For the usual India-return medical route, yes, they solve different requirements. NEET supports Indian eligibility for foreign medical study. NMAT supports admission to a Philippine medical school. Passing one doesn’t replace the other, and each has its own timing, validity and score rules.
