What is RCSI Medicine, and what does it cost?

RCSI Medicine is a five-year or six-year Dublin programme leading to the MB, BCh, BAO (Hons) at NFQ Level 8. Shortlist it if you want an intensive health-sciences setting and can fund the route RCSI assigns, with an upper plan of about INR 4.50 crore for five years or INR 5.44 crore for six.

The main risk for an India-return applicant is the separate Irish HSE internship, so send RCSI your exact marks for written route confirmation and get written NMC guidance on the internship structure before committing. The five-year sequence moves from integrated biomedical and clinical systems into hospital placements, full-time clinical teams and final preparation for internship. The six-year route adds a Foundation Year first. This page covers September 2027, and RCSI’s India marks table is now labelled for that entry year. The acceptance deposit still isn’t published.

How much can the five-year RCSI Medicine route cost?

The five-year upper plan is EUR 407,785, or about INR 4.50 crore. It starts with RCSI’s EUR 62,000 first-year fee, applies the university’s recent 2 percent order of annual increase, and holds the current upper living estimate flat. It is a planning scenario, not a quotation for all five years.

ItemINRLocal currencyWhen it is due
Tuition, five-year planning scenarioINR 3.56 croreEUR 322,650EUR 62,000 in Year 1, then 2% annual increases
Living, upper five-year estimateINR 93.81 lakhEUR 85,000EUR 17,000 assumed each year
NUI registrationINR 14,899EUR 135Paid once in first year
Five-year upper planning totalINR 4.50 croreEUR 407,785Before application, test, visa and travel costs

Irish Immigration requires access to at least EUR 10,000 for each academic year in addition to tuition. This is funds evidence rather than a realistic Dublin budget or an extra cost consumed by the visa process. Converted at EUR 1 = INR 110.3610, the ECB reference rate for 31 August 2026. Tuition grows by 2 percent annually only as a planning assumption. Living is held flat. The EUR 75 application fee, USD 85 Casper fee, flights, visa costs, insurance, equipment, electives, repeat years and transfer spreads are excluded.

RCSI publishes EUR 62,000 as the 2027/28 Non-EU tuition fee and EUR 135 as the once-off NUI registration charge. At least half of tuition is due before registration and the balance is due by 31 January. The same split applies in later years, with the first half due before each academic year.

The fee page says recent inflationary increases have been in the order of 2 percent a year. The five-year scenario therefore uses EUR 62,000, EUR 63,240, EUR 64,505, EUR 65,795 and EUR 67,111. These later figures are planning arithmetic, not fees RCSI has promised or capped.

RCSI estimates student living costs at EUR 12,000 to EUR 17,000 a year. Holding that range flat produces EUR 60,000 to EUR 85,000 across five years. The lower five-year total is about INR 4.22 crore, while the upper figure used in the hero is about INR 4.50 crore.

A student assigned the six-year route carries another year of both tuition and living. Using the same assumptions gives EUR 463,238 to EUR 493,238, or about INR 5.11 crore to INR 5.44 crore. RCSI has not quoted those complete-course totals, and living costs can rise over time.

The International Consilio Manuque Medicine Scholarship is competitive and worth EUR 25,000 across the full course. RCSI allocates EUR 5,000 a year on the five-year route or about EUR 4,167 a year on the six-year route. The number of awards varies, so the base budget must work without it.

The September 2027 acceptance deposit for an applicant resident in India is unpublished, so the offer letter must supply the amount, due date and refund terms. Irish Immigration separately requires access to EUR 10,000 for each academic year, while RCSI’s higher Dublin range covers likely spending. Annual euro payments also need a currency buffer because the ECB comparison rate is not a bank transaction rate.

Can an Indian Class 12 student enter RCSI Medicine?

Yes, if the applicant has a bona fide CBSE or CISCE completion certificate and meets the relevant route threshold. The latest India table requires a 90 percent five-subject average for five years or 80 percent for six years, with 75 percent in the named sciences. RCSI labels that table for September 2027 entry.

The five-year and six-year figures are not two offers that the applicant chooses between. RCSI says it determines the route from the educational background. A 90 percent profile therefore does not create a right to select five years, and a family should not budget until the offer confirms the route.

RCSI’s cycle now lines up. The course, fee, application opening date, deadline, Casper sitting and the India marks table all point to September 2027. RCSI reviews the table every year and says applicants for 2028 onwards should check the current version, so treat these figures as this cycle’s rule rather than a standing one.

The English evidence must come from one sitting and remain less than two years old when admission begins. RCSI mentions equivalent TOEFL evidence but does not print a TOEFL score on the checked programme pages. Do not invent a conversion or assume that CBSE or CISCE English-medium schooling automatically creates a waiver.

A student who discontinued another university degree, failed to meet progression requirements in the last registered year or has unresolved disciplinary issues is ineligible under the published restriction. RCSI also has a no-transfer policy for Medicine, so prior study cannot be used to enter a later year.

The binding selection-test rule

  1. Book Casper, not HPAT

    The entry page states
“Non-EU applicants are NOT required to take the HPAT-Ireland examination.”RCSI Undergraduate Medicine entry requirements
Privately funded Non-EU applicants still need the separate Casper test published for 17 January 2027.
  2. The six-year route uses up Ireland's seven-year residence limit

    Irish Immigration says
“Graduates with an award at level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications will be granted a period of residence in the State, the lesser of either, twelve months or such period as would bring their overall time resident in the State (i.e. time spent on Stamp 2 as a student and on Stamp 1G under this programme) to seven years in total.”Third Level Graduate Programme
Six years of study plus the intern year is exactly seven. On the five-year route there’s a year of headroom. On the six-year route there is none, so one repeated year comes out of the intern-year permission rather than extending it.
  3. NMC wants the internship at the same institution that awarded the degree

The National Medical Commission’s own FAQ on the 2021 regulations says
“An internship of twelve months in addition to the course, in the same foreign institution where the primary medical qualification has been obtained”NMC FAQ on the FMGL Regulations 2021
RCSI’s course clears the separate 54-month minimum comfortably. The Irish intern year is the open question, because it’s applied for and appointed through the HSE rather than granted by RCSI, and no NMC ruling was found that says whether that counts. Get written NMC guidance before you enrol, not after you graduate.
  4. Where you graduated decides intern eligibility, not what passport you hold

    The Irish Medical Council says
“Graduates of any one of the six medical schools in Ireland are entitled to apply for intern posts.”Irish Medical Council, internship registration
An Indian national who graduates from RCSI is inside that door on the same footing as an Irish classmate. Entitled to apply still isn’t a post, and the HSE runs the competition, but the eligibility question people worry about most is settled in writing.

How should an Indian student apply to RCSI Medicine for 2027?

An applicant resident in India applies directly to RCSI, and registers for the Casper test inside that application. Applications open on 1 November 2026 and close on 15 January 2027, and Casper registration closes with them, two days before the sitting itself. The planner works backwards through marks confirmation, English evidence, references and the complete online file.

An applicant resident in India applies directly through RCSI, pays EUR 75, submits the supporting file by 15 January 2027 and takes the USD 85 online Casper sitting on 17 January 2027. CAO and Atlantic Bridge are not the route for this applicant profile.

The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Send RCSI the exact board, subjects and predicted or final marks before assembling certified transcripts, English evidence where applicable, references, passport material, a personal statement and evidence of life experience. The public India table still carries the previous intake label, and the live portal remains the final upload list.

The direct application costs EUR 75. North American applicants use Atlantic Bridge and eligible EU applicants use CAO, but neither applies merely because a comparison page mentions it. Casper costs USD 85 and is sat on 17 January 2027, but you register for it inside the application, so it closes on 15 January with everything else. RCSI publishes no minimum score or binding interview date.

Register for the fixed Casper sitting

The RCSI sitting is online on 17 January 2027, two days after the application close. RCSI uses the Casper score with the application documents for interview shortlisting, but it publishes neither a minimum Casper score nor a 2027 interview date.

What professional pathway follows RCSI Medicine?

The MB, BCh, BAO (Hons) is an Irish Medical Council-accredited Level 8 degree, but graduation is not the end of the Irish pathway. A graduate applies for at least 12 months of intern training through the HSE system before later registration and career steps.

Indian registrationUnresolved internship fitNo NMC notice was found that decides whether the separate HSE internship meets the same-institution wording.

RCSI publishes the academic and intern route, but not a course-specific international intern match rate or graduate salary dataset.

The five-year route begins with two years of integrated biomedical and clinical systems. Year 3 moves into hospital-based medicine and surgery attachments, simulation and a research or audit project. Year 4 places the student full-time within clinical teams across obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, psychiatry, general practice, medicine and surgery.

Year 5 is a transition towards practice. It contains an eight-week student-choice clinical elective, eight weeks of Advanced Clinical Practice and a 12-week Clinical Clerkship with intern shadowing. These are parts of the degree. They are not the separate paid or appointed HSE Intern Year after graduation.

RCSI says graduates may apply for at least 12 months of intern training across about 50 hospitals and primary-care facilities. An eligible Level 8 graduate can receive up to 12 months on Stamp 1G, and a non-EEA graduate with valid Stamp 1G does not need an employment permit for internship. Permission does not supply Medical Council registration or an HSE appointment. The six-year route also sits exactly on Ireland’s residence limit, because Stamp 1G gives a Level 8 graduate the lesser of twelve months or whatever brings total time in the State, counting the Stamp 2 study years, to seven years. Six years of study plus the intern year is already seven, so a repeated year comes out of the intern-year permission instead of extending it.

The India-return question needs written regulator advice before enrolment. NMC requires at least 54 months of study and a 12-month foreign internship at the same institution, followed by the applicable screening requirement and at least 12 months of supervised internship in India. RCSI’s academic duration clears 54 months, but the separate HSE internship creates an unresolved wording issue.

No audited programme acceptance rate, international intern match rate or graduate salary figure was found in the checked official sources. Clinical sites are teaching settings, not evidence of employment outcomes.

Who should apply to RCSI Medicine, and who shouldn't?

The strongest fit is a student who wants a specialist health-sciences campus, can work across changing clinical settings and has a family budget that survives the assigned route. It is a poor fit if a scholarship, transfer place or automatic intern appointment is necessary for the plan to work.

VerdictYour backgroundWhy
Strong fitStudent whose written offer confirms a fundable routeThe confirmed duration lets the family align academic and financial planning before committing.
Strong fitStudent who wants a clinically focused health-sciences universityThe course moves into hospital placements, full-time clinical teams and a final clerkship rather than a broad non-medical campus experience.
Needs evidenceStudent open to an additional Foundation YearThe transition year may help academically, but it adds one full year in Dublin and lifts the upper plan to about INR 5.44 crore.
Needs evidenceApplicant who plans to begin a medical career in IrelandThe Irish degree and intern route are defined, but the HSE appointment remains competitive and no programme match rate is published.
Do not shortlistIndian student who needs a clearly settled return-to-India routeThe separate HSE internship has no published NMC determination against the same-foreign-institution wording.
Do not shortlistFamily whose five-year ceiling is below INR 4.22 croreThe lower current living estimate already reaches that planning figure before application, test, flights and visa costs.
Do not shortlistApplicant expecting entry into a later year from prior studyRCSI publishes a no-transfer policy for Medicine.

A small specialist university suits students who want healthcare to dominate the academic environment. It may suit less well if you want daily study alongside a wide spread of arts, engineering and business cohorts. That is a personal campus choice rather than an admission or outcome fact.

The later years require mobility across clinical settings and full participation in clinical teams. RCSI does not publish one complete travel and temporary-accommodation allowance for every placement, so the family budget needs room beyond the stated Dublin living estimate.

Should you shortlist RCSI Medicine?

Shortlist RCSI Medicine if you want early progression into clinical teams, accept a specialist health-sciences campus and can fund whichever route appears in the offer. RCSI assigns the route from your educational background, so a strong marks profile is not permission to choose the shorter course.

The course moves from biomedical and clinical systems into hospital attachments, full-time clinical teams and final preparation for practice. The tradeoff is rigidity, because RCSI doesn't accept transfers into later years and assigns the route rather than letting you pick it.

The financial commitment changes sharply with the offer. The five-year upper plan is about INR 4.50 crore and the six-year plan is about INR 5.44 crore before flights, visa costs, equipment, electives and exchange spreads. A family unable to carry the six-year case should not rely on receiving the shorter route.

  • Non-EU applicants do not take HPAT, while privately funded applicants must take the USD 85 Casper test on 17 January 2027.
  • The official September 2027 application closes on 15 January 2027 and carries a EUR 75 application fee.
  • The five-year upper plan is EUR 407,785 or about INR 4.50 crore, while the comparable six-year upper plan is about INR 5.44 crore.
  • Final year includes an eight-week elective, eight weeks of Advanced Clinical Practice and a 12-week clerkship with intern shadowing.

Frequently asked questions

Is RCSI Medicine five years or six years for an Indian student?

RCSI decides the track from the applicant's educational background. Its latest India table points to five years for a 90 percent average across five Grade 12 subjects and six years for an 80 percent average, with the same science minima. RCSI labels the table for September 2027 entry.

What Class 12 marks does RCSI Medicine require from India?

The latest published table requires a 90 percent average across five Grade 12 subjects for the five-year route or 80 percent for six years. Both require at least 75 percent in Chemistry, Biology, and either Physics or Mathematics. RCSI accepts bona fide CBSE or CISCE completion certificates.

Does an Indian applicant need HPAT or Casper for RCSI Medicine?

A Non-EU applicant does not need HPAT-Ireland. A privately funded Non-EU applicant must instead take Casper, an online situational judgement test used with the application for interview shortlisting. RCSI lists the sitting on 17 January 2027 and a USD 85 fee, but publishes no minimum score.

How much should an Indian family plan for RCSI Medicine?

The five-year plan is about INR 4.22 crore to INR 4.50 crore. The six-year plan is about INR 5.11 crore to INR 5.44 crore. These scenarios start with EUR 62,000 tuition, apply 2 percent annual fee growth and use RCSI's EUR 12,000 to EUR 17,000 living range.

When is the RCSI Medicine deadline for September 2027?

Direct Non-EU applications open on 1 November 2026 and close on 15 January 2027. An applicant resident in India applies through RCSI and pays EUR 75. The published Casper sitting follows on 17 January 2027, so the test booking and application file must be managed as separate tasks.

Is RCSI Medicine recognised in Ireland and India?

The degree is accredited by the Irish Medical Council and sits at NFQ Level 8. Indian registration is not settled by Irish accreditation alone. NMC requires a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution, while RCSI graduates apply separately for HSE intern posts. No RCSI-specific NMC determination was found.

Can an RCSI Medicine graduate stay in Ireland after study?

An eligible Level 8 graduate can receive up to 12 months under Ireland's Third Level Graduate Programme. The permission is the lesser of twelve months or whatever brings total residence in the State to seven years, counting the study years, so the six-year route reaches that limit with no room for a repeated year. Stamp 1G does not guarantee an intern post or authorise medical practice by itself. The graduate still needs the required Medical Council status and a successful appointment through the current HSE process.

Does RCSI offer a scholarship for international Medicine students?

The competitive International Consilio Manuque Medicine Scholarship is worth EUR 25,000 across the full programme. RCSI allocates EUR 5,000 per year over five years or about EUR 4,167 per year over six. The number of awards varies, and continuation depends on satisfactory progress, so do not budget as though it is guaranteed.
