The IPU Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies is a current NZQA Level 7 degree with 360 credits across three years of full-time study. Across three years, tuition, recurring institutional charges and on-campus housing produce a much larger commitment than the annual tuition headline. The page therefore states where future changes can alter it.

The 2027 IPU fee page lists Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies tuition of NZD 20,340 per year. Multiplying the current annual rate by three gives NZD 61,020. This isn’t a price lock. IPU says fees can change, so years two and three may be invoiced at later rates.

Student Services Fee is NZD 1,550 and Resource Fee is NZD 3,500. IPU explicitly gives a one-and-a-half-year exception for MGB but no equivalent multi-year exception for Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies. The working total therefore treats both Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies amounts as annual, adding NZD 15,150 over three years. The invoice should show whether that interpretation applies to the admitted cohort.

Administration costs follow a clearer pattern. IPU lists NZD 1,000 for the first Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies year and NZD 500 for each of the second and third years, totalling NZD 2,000. The Student Services, resource and administration group therefore reaches NZD 17,150 before tuition or housing.

The residence line uses IPU’s January 2027 private-room rate of NZD 18,291 per year. It includes three meals each day, laundry, shared facilities, parking and site security. Three years at that flat rate equal NZD 54,873. Room availability and later annual prices remain variable.

The NZD 500 residence bond and NZD 300 non-refundable residence administration fee are included. Travel and medical insurance are compulsory but excluded because no universal price is published. Flights, books specified by lecturers, devices, local transport and personal spending are also outside the total.

The Fee Paying Student Visa starts at NZD 850. The INR total uses the New Zealand central-bank series and the official INR cross leg. A five percent currency movement changes the rupee view by about five percent, and part-time earnings are not deducted.

An international applicant needs at least 12 years of primary and secondary education or academic ability equivalent to a high-school graduate. The current international guide gives the clearest academic rule for an Indian applicant. Twelve years of primary and secondary education normally maps to completion through Year 12, but IPU retains the authority to assess whether the record demonstrates high-school graduate ability. The page does not invent a universal CBSE, CISCE or state-board percentage cut-off.

The academic file should show the secondary qualification, mark statements and completion status together. Applicants still finishing Year 12 can receive provisional admission subject to completion. Formal admission remains contingent on the final result, so a provisional offer is not evidence that the outstanding condition has disappeared.

English can be shown through IELTS Academic 6.0 with every band at 5.5 or above, TOEFL iBT 60 with 20 in writing, or PTE Academic 50. The TOEFL rule includes a writing floor even when the overall score is high enough. The personal interview tests more than spoken English. A coherent applicant can explain why the interdisciplinary core is necessary, which major is intended, what language sequence is realistic and how the final research project connects to the study purpose. Mathematics is not published as a separate Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies entry prerequisite. The compulsory Principles of Economics paper still makes basic quantitative readiness useful, particularly for an International Business direction. That preparation point should not be misrepresented as an extra admission rule.

Academic Registry reviews applicants who meet the entry qualifications and succeed in the personal interview. IPU then issues an Offer of Place, pro-forma invoice and any scholarship contract. The student accepts through the stated forms, pays the required amount and receives receipt documents and a confirmed Offer of Place.

The current academic calendar places Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies in the summer term beginning 11 January 2027. The nine-week rule in the international guide calculates to 9 November 2026. This is an official relative deadline applied to an official start date, not an editorial cut-off invented by Nbyula.

The offer should state the exact annual tuition and extra charges, programme name, campus, start date and admission conditions. A scholarship is not applied to the budget unless IPU awards it in writing. The published SEG and Mayor’s awards are limited or competitive rather than automatic fee reductions.

Visa preparation follows the confirmed offer and funding plan. A three-year course creates repeated tuition and living commitments, even when only the current year’s evidence is immediately requested. The safer family decision tests later-year affordability before the first payment rather than assuming work income will carry the rest.

What outcomes does the IPU Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies support?

NZQA describes graduates who can think critically, evaluate information, communicate across cultures, use more than one language and apply those capabilities in varied workplaces. IPU places the degree around administrative and management directions. Neither source publishes a Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies placement percentage or salary distribution.

A major, internship or research project does not prove a job, salary, professional registration, employer sponsorship or later residence result.

The strongest graduate evidence can come from alignment across the major, language papers and final interdisciplinary project. International Relations may support public, community or policy-related directions, but an embassy or diplomatic career has its own competitive recruitment rules. The three-year duration also changes fit. A student commits to 24 papers, recurring fees and a substantial language sequence. The named compulsory papers are Principles of Economics, Introduction to Environmental Sustainability, Introduction to International Relations and Internationalism. The current website names four majors. International Business can include accounting, finance, management or marketing specialities under the 2025 handbook. International Relations focuses the political and policy route. Japanese Studies joins language with cultural and regional study. TESOL and Language Studies develops language and teaching-related analysis.

A major is built progressively. Two specialist papers sit at Level 5, three at Level 6 and three at Level 7. IPU’s handbook also requires a student with a major to choose a final interdisciplinary project topic within that specialty. This rule can make the degree coherent when the project extends the preceding papers.

The six language and culture papers account for one quarter of the degree. They are not an optional decoration added to a business or international relations programme. A student who does not want sustained language study is therefore a poor match even if one major sounds attractive.

The general route permits major-labelled papers to be replaced with a range of electives. It preserves breadth but still needs an approved study plan across levels. The degree isn’t a free selection of 24 unrelated papers, and students in their first year are not normally permitted to attempt Level 7 work.

The 100-hour internship is an option within the course rather than a separate qualification requirement shown in the 360-credit major formula. Its availability and fit belong in the enrolled study plan. The published curriculum remains complete without treating the internship as guaranteed employment.

Should you shortlist the IPU Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies?

IPU publishes an optional 100-hour study-related internship, not a placement rate or job promise. TESOL study inside Bachelor of Contemporary International Studies doesn't create automatic teacher registration in New Zealand.
