What is the IPU Master of Global Business, and what matters first?
The IPU New Zealand Master of Global Business is a Level 9 degree with 180, 210 and 240-credit routes. IPU indicates 18 months of full-time study. Its 2027 tuition for 180 or 210 credits is NZD 38,640, about INR 21.53 lakh, before compulsory fees and living costs. It isn’t a classroom-only degree because every route contains substantial independent research.
The Master of Global Business route is the first decision. The shortest pattern joins four taught papers to an executive research option. The middle pattern replaces that work with a larger research paper or thesis. The longest example retains the larger investigation and adds another elective. IPU doesn’t price 240 credits for 2027.
“Between 180 and 240 credits, indicatively 18 months, full-time”IPU New Zealand programme page
A second decision sits inside admission. IPU currently publishes two incompatible bachelor’s percentage thresholds. This page applies the higher 55 percent figure as the safer planning standard without pretending that it guarantees admission. The written offer should identify the rule used for the applicant before payment.
How much does the IPU Master of Global Business cost for an Indian student?
The 180 or 210-credit route produces a working total of NZD 76,302, about INR 42.52 lakh. That calculation uses IPU's 2027 programme charges, 18 months of its private on-campus room with meals, the residence deposit charges and the current visa fee. It is a transparent planning total rather than an invoice.
Full 18-month working cost
| Item | INR | Local currency | When it is due |
|---|---|---|---|
| Published tuition | INR 21.53 lakh | NZD 38,640 | 180 or 210 credits across 18 months |
| Student, resource and administration fees | INR 4.78 lakh | NZD 8,575 | IPU says these cover 18 months |
| Private on-campus room with meals | INR 15.29 lakh | NZD 27,437 | annual 2027 rate scaled by 1.5 |
| Residence bond and administration | INR 0.45 lakh | NZD 800 | paid in advance |
| Fee Paying Student Visa | INR 0.47 lakh | NZD 850 | current starting charge |
| Full planning total | INR 42.52 lakh | NZD 76,302 | before variable exclusions |
Immigration New Zealand's NZD 20,000 annual funds floor is a visa evidence minimum. It is not a promise that the budget covers every expense. Converted at NZD 1 = INR 55.73 using the 4 September 2026 official central-bank cross calculation. Retail exchange spreads are excluded.
“you will need to show that you have enough money to live on and cover all your expenses”Immigration New Zealand
The visa rule concerns evidence of available funds. It does not turn the minimum into a realistic personal budget. Nbyula’s New Zealand cost guide separates the wider national planning categories from this IPU-specific calculation.
The current IPU fee page prices both the 180 and 210-credit Master of Global Business routes at NZD 38,640 for one and a half years. The same page does not price the 240-credit route. An applicant placed into 240 credits therefore lacks a public full-programme tuition figure and needs the exact route and total on the offer and invoice.
The additional IPU charges are material. Student Services Fee is NZD 2,325, Resource Fee is NZD 5,250 and Administration Fee is NZD 1,000. IPU explicitly says that each Master of Global Business amount covers one and a half years. Together they add NZD 8,575, roughly 22 percent of the published tuition.
The housing line uses IPU’s January 2027 private-room rate of NZD 18,291 per year. It includes three meals daily, common-room and kitchen use, laundry, parking and site security. Scaling that annual rate across 18 months gives NZD 27,436.50. Actual invoices may divide or revise the charge by term, and room availability is not promised.
The separate NZD 500 residence bond and NZD 300 non-refundable residence administration fee are both included. International students must also arrange medical and travel insurance. Insurance, flights, textbooks specified by lecturers, devices, local transport and personal spending remain outside the total because IPU does not publish one fixed amount for them.
The Fee Paying Student Visa starts at NZD 850. Immigration New Zealand separately publishes a living-funds requirement of NZD 20,000 for each tertiary-study year. The page uses IPU housing rather than that minimum because accommodation and meals are a concrete family budget, while the immigration number serves an evidence rule.
The rupee view combines the Reserve Bank of New Zealand exchange series with the Reserve Bank of Australia INR leg. A five percent currency movement changes the rupee total by about five percent before bank charges. Part-time earnings are not subtracted because no job, roster or income is guaranteed.
What are the IPU Master of Global Business entry requirements?
IPU currently publishes two different percentage rules. Its live Master of Global Business page says 50 percent, while the July 2026 international guide says 55 percent. The safer application plan uses 55 percent and submits the full transcript and grading context. English is IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or a stated equivalent.
| Requirement | Published rule | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Academic award (India) | Completed bachelor's degree | Submit the award, complete transcript and grading scale. |
| Percentage conflict (India) | Live page says 50%; July 2026 guide says 55% | Plan to 55% and retain the written admission decision. |
| IELTS Academic (India) | 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0 | Use one valid result or an accepted equivalent. |
| TOEFL iBT (India) | 79 overall, writing 21 | Submit the official score where this route is used. |
| PTE Academic (India) | 58 overall, no band below 50 | Submit the official score where this route is used. |
| Research readiness (India) | Bachelor's-level essay writing and research skills expected | Support readiness with assessed writing or research evidence. |
The live course entry section gives the lower 50 percent figure. The July 2026 international guide, which is newer and directed at international enrolment, gives 55 percent. Neither source explains the difference. Applying the higher figure avoids presenting a lower threshold as settled policy.
An Indian applicant’s result is most useful when the institution can see the award, every relevant semester, the grading scale and any failed or repeated papers together. IPU says polytechnic graduates may be granted entry, but it does not publish a mechanical equivalence table for Indian diplomas or every autonomous college. That route remains an individual admission assessment.
The language alternatives are unusually specific in the current guide. IELTS Academic requires 6.5 overall and 6.0 in every band. TOEFL iBT requires 79 with 21 in writing. PTE Academic requires 58 with no band below 50. A score should meet the complete test rule, not only the overall number.
Research preparation matters because at least one third of the shortest route is an executive project or thesis. The 210-credit route gives 90 of 210 credits to research, and the 240-credit route gives 90 of 240. A transcript with research methods, a substantial report, dissertation, workplace analysis or evidence-led project makes that readiness easier to assess.
The statement of purpose can define one international business problem and show why sustainability, management and another elective field need to be considered together. It should not promise a topic, supervisor or external organisation that IPU has not assigned. The strength lies in a feasible question and credible access to evidence.
The public material does not resolve 50 percent against 55 percent, guarantee every elective, price the 240-credit route for 2027 or assign a research supervisor before admission. The written offer must settle the applicant’s actual route.
How should an Indian applicant plan the Master of Global Business application?
IPU publishes relative deadlines, not a verified 2027 Master of Global Business start. April and August applications are due seven weeks before the semester, while January applications are due nine weeks before the term. This page uses 31 October 2026 as an editorial safety target for an early 2027 route, not as an IPU deadline.
Credit-route decision, evidence file, IPU assessment, offer review, payment and visa
| Start by | Task | Days | Why this date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 29 Jul 2026 | Settle the intended credit route | 7 | State whether the application seeks 180, 210 or 240 credits and the preferred research form. |
| 05 Aug 2026 | Assemble admission evidence | 21 | Prepare the passport, certified academic records, grading scale, two recommendations, English result and work details. |
| 26 Aug 2026 | Submit to IPU | 14 | Use the international form or the recruitment email and respond to academic assessment requests. |
| 09 Sep 2026 | Resolve the offer and invoice | 10 | The documents must state the credit total, start, study mode, tuition, extra charges and conditions. |
| 19 Sep 2026 | File the student visa | 42 | Use the confirmed offer, payment evidence, funds, insurance, health and character documents. |
The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by IPU New Zealand.
The IPU application page permits a form, post or scanned email submission. It requests a passport copy, certified academic records, two recommendation letters, English evidence and details of work experience. The current international postgraduate form also requests a substantial statement of purpose, so the file should be ready before the advertised relative deadline.
IPU first assesses the application and issues an Offer of Place, pro-forma invoice and any scholarship contract. Acceptance follows through the stated forms. Payment then leads to receipt documents and a confirmed Offer of Place used for the student-visa application. Admission and visa approval are separate decisions.
The Master of Global Business calendar needs care. IPU’s 2026 calendar extends into January 2027 but still prints the old MCIS name, while the website says that MCIS is being renamed and no longer takes new enrolments. A candidate should not treat the old calendar label as proof of an Master of Global Business place. The offered start date must be written in the new programme name.
The July 2026 guide places April and August deadlines seven weeks before the relevant semester and January deadlines nine weeks before summer term. It also recommends earlier submission because visa timing varies. The editorial October target protects extra time for the unresolved rename and route decision.
The offer review is substantive. It should state 180, 210 or 240 credits, the taught and research components, delivery mode, start date and 2027 charge basis. A 240-credit offer deserves particular attention because the current fee page does not publish its tuition. Payment before that number is known creates an avoidable cost gap.
What outcomes does the IPU Master of Global Business support?
The defensible outcome is an interdisciplinary research capability, not a promised management job. IPU says graduates can analyse business problems, conduct scholarly or applied research and make recommendations to varied stakeholders. The public material gives no Master of Global Business placement percentage, salary distribution or named employer conversion rate.
Outcome evidence and its limit
| Measure | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Research output | One 60 or 90-credit executive project, research paper or thesis | Current IPU programme structure |
| Investigable directions | International business, sustainability, policy, people, accounting and organisational change | Current taught-paper menu |
| Public evidence limit | No exact-programme placement rate, salary distribution or guaranteed internship found | IPU and NZQA source sweep |
Programme capability does not prove a job, salary, employer sponsorship, doctoral place or later residence outcome for an individual.
The research component can become the strongest piece of graduate evidence when it addresses a real business or policy problem with a transparent method. A 60-credit executive route may suit an applied organisational question. A 90-credit thesis or research-paper route gives more space to the investigation. The title alone does not make either output useful to an employer.
IPU lists management, project work, business development, communications, marketing, finance, human resources, logistics, international relations and research among broad directions. Those categories reflect the interdisciplinary curriculum. They are not reported destinations for a measured Master of Global Business cohort, and some roles may demand prior experience or another certification.
An applicant moving from Indian business experience can use the degree to deepen the way a problem is framed and tested. A useful starting point is a specific issue such as supplier sustainability, intercultural change, resource decisions or responsible growth. A vague ambition to become a manager gives less evidence of fit than a problem grounded in previous study or work.
The absence of public course-level outcome data changes how return should be judged. The decision rests on the research route, elective availability, total cost and the applicant’s existing career base. Borrowing a national salary or another provider’s placement figure would make the page look precise while answering the wrong question.
Under the current Post Study Work Visa rules, a qualifying master’s studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 30 weeks may support an application for up to three years. Immigration New Zealand decides eligibility and conditions. That permission is not a job offer and does not repair a weak academic or financial fit.
Who is the IPU Master of Global Business for, and who should look elsewhere?
The closest match is a business or social-science graduate who wants an international business question examined through sustainability and research. A graduate from a less direct discipline needs the academic assessment in writing. Someone seeking an MBA-style general management course with no major research component should look elsewhere.
| Verdict | Your background | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strong fit | Graduate with a feasible international business or sustainability question | The taught papers and substantial research component can support the same investigation. |
| Needs evidence | Polytechnic or unrelated graduate with strong evidence-led work | IPU permits individual assessment, but the published material does not define automatic equivalence. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant seeking a classroom-only MBA or guaranteed company placement | The Master of Global Business requires research and publishes no guaranteed external project or placement. |
For the closest profile, prior work or study already contains a decision that crosses business and another field. The Master of Global Business can then add research design, sustainability analysis and a longer independent output. The route is less convincing when the applicant cannot name a tractable problem or explain why an interdisciplinary method is necessary.
The middle profile is plausible but uncertain. IPU’s guide says polytechnic graduates may be granted entry, while neither the live page nor the guide gives a complete Indian equivalence table. A detailed transcript, grading scale, assessed writing and work evidence provide the admission committee with a clearer basis than an informal percentage conversion.
The unsuitable profile conflicts with the programme’s architecture. Independent work occupies at least one third of the degree and carries still more weight in the longer research routes. A student who mainly wants case discussions, internships or many taught management subjects would be buying a different experience from the one IPU publishes.
The internal route comparison is equally important. The 180-credit route is shorter in credit volume and has a 60-credit executive component. The 210-credit route has a 90-credit research component. The 240-credit example keeps 90 research credits and adds a fifth elective. More credits are not automatically better if the extra paper or research load does not serve the intended problem.
A preferred elective can’t be assumed because IPU warns that not every paper is offered every year. The durable shortlist should still work if one preferred elective changes, provided the two compulsory papers and research route remain attractive. If it depends on one unavailable subject, the course fit is fragile.
What will you study in the IPU Master of Global Business?
The live structure is route-based. All students complete 60 credits of compulsory study, at least 60 credits of electives and one 60 or 90-credit research component. The table shows the complete rule for the 180-credit base route, while the notes explain how 210 and 240 credits change it.
Complete route structure
| Code | Component | Credits | Where it sits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Schedule A | Postgraduate Research Methods | 30 | Compulsory taught paper |
| Schedule A | Resource Management | 30 | Compulsory taught paper |
| Schedule B | Elective paper 1 | 30 | Chosen from the current elective menu |
| Schedule B | Elective paper 2 | 30 | Chosen from the current elective menu |
| Schedule C | Executive Project Thesis or Executive Thesis | 60 | Research component for the 180-credit example |
| Total | 180 |
- Complete both Schedule A papers
- Complete at least two Schedule B electives
- Complete one approved Schedule C research component
- Use a 90-credit research component for the 210-credit route
- Add a third 30-credit elective to the 210-credit pattern for the 240-credit example
Schedule B currently offers People, the Planet and Sustainability; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Business, the Environment and Corporate Social Responsibility; and Science, the Environment and Policy Making. These choices connect enterprise questions to environmental and public-policy effects rather than treating sustainability as a separate theme.
The remaining current electives are Politics and Development; Sustainability and Management Accounting; International Human Resource Management; and Leadership, Communication and Change Management. Together, the menu can support political, financial or people-centred business questions. It does not create a fixed specialist major on the award.
The 180-credit sample combines the four required taught papers with either Executive Project Thesis or Executive Thesis at 60 credits. This is the route priced at NZD 38,640 for 2027. The word executive does not mean that an employer or live client is supplied; the public page does not make that promise.
The 210-credit sample keeps four taught papers and uses either Research Project Thesis or Research Thesis at 90 credits. It is also priced at NZD 38,640 for 2027. The same tuition across these two credit totals is an unusual published feature, not a reason to assume that admission into either route is interchangeable.
The 240-credit example adds a third elective to the 210-credit design. That produces five taught papers and a 90-credit research component. IPU’s current fee page omits a 240-credit tuition line, so this route cannot use the page’s advertised 180 or 210-credit total without a written price.
Paper availability is the final curriculum constraint. IPU says not every paper runs each year and labels its structures as examples. The offer and enrolment plan therefore control the exact route, but the published minimum remains clear enough to show that research is central rather than optional.
Should you shortlist the IPU Master of Global Business?
This degree is strongest for a graduate who wants to connect international business with sustainability and is prepared for a large independent research component. The useful comparison is not Master of Global Business versus MBA by title. It is a 60-credit executive route versus a 90-credit research route, with different demands on topic definition, evidence access and supervision.
The taught core is intentionally interdisciplinary. Postgraduate Research Methods prepares the investigation, while Resource Management connects organisational choices to resources and sustainability. The elective menu then spreads across entrepreneurship, corporate responsibility, policy, politics, accounting, human resources and organisational change. That range can support a genuinely cross-functional question, but it offers less functional depth than a specialist finance, analytics or supply-chain master's.
The course should leave the shortlist when the applicant wants a classroom-only degree, a guaranteed company project, a named professional accreditation or a predictable 240-credit price. IPU publishes none of those assurances. It also says that not every elective runs each year, so a preferred paper can't safely carry the whole decision until the offered schedule names it.

Frequently asked questions
Is the IPU Master of Global Business full-time?
Yes. IPU publishes the degree as 180 to 240 credits, indicatively 18 months and full-time. The offer still needs to state the admitted credit route, delivery mode, start date and paper sequence because those details affect cost and workload.
What is the 2027 Master of Global Business tuition?
IPU lists NZD 38,640 for either the 180 or 210-credit route across one and a half years. It does not publish a 2027 tuition figure for the 240-credit route, so that route requires a complete written invoice before payment.
Does IPU require 50 percent or 55 percent?
The live course page says 50 percent, while the July 2026 international guide says 55 percent. This page uses 55 percent as the safer planning floor. IPU still makes the individual admission decision, and the offer should resolve the applicable rule.
What English score is required?
The current guide lists IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 79 with writing 21, or PTE Academic 58 with no band below 50. A score must meet both the overall and component rule.
Can a polytechnic graduate apply?
The July 2026 guide says polytechnic graduates may be granted entry. It does not define automatic equivalence for every Indian qualification, so the transcript, grading scale, award and research evidence need an individual academic assessment.
Is there an internship in the Master of Global Business?
IPU publishes executive project, thesis, research project and research thesis options. It does not promise an internship, paid placement, named employer or live company client. The actual research arrangement belongs in the approved programme plan.
Can an Master of Global Business student work during study?
Eligible tertiary students may receive visa conditions allowing up to 25 hours of work each week. The visa wording controls the individual case, and no job or roster is guaranteed. Earnings should not be used to close a funding gap.
Can the Master of Global Business lead to a Post Study Work Visa?
A qualifying master's studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 30 weeks may support a Post Study Work Visa application for up to three years under current rules. Immigration New Zealand decides the application and conditions.
Does IPU guarantee a management job?
No Master of Global Business placement percentage, salary distribution or employer guarantee was found. IPU publishes broad job directions and research capabilities. An actual result depends on the applicant's prior experience, research output, applications and employer decisions.
