What is the MIC MA in History?

The academic year combines six taught History modules, online research seminars and a supervised 20,000-word dissertation. MIC names live sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 4 pm Irish time, alongside pre-recorded lectures and online tasks. Unpublished deadlines and outcomes remain outside the verified case.

How much does the MIC MA in History cost?

Known course charges are EUR 11,570, approximately INR 12.85 lakh, for the one-year online route. This is not an Ireland living-cost total because the exact programme is wholly online in 2026/27 and MIC publishes no India-based living estimate. It separates verified charges from costs that MIC has not fixed.

INR values use EUR 1 = INR 111.0585, the European Central Bank reference rate dated 28 August 2026. Books, devices, bank spreads and any optional travel to Ireland are excluded.

MIC marks the tuition as a per-academic-year amount and says fees are subject to annual review. The fee table does not mark Garda vetting for this programme, so no Garda administration charge is added.

The general Irish student-finance and registration costs are not placed in this total. The exact 2026/27 course is online, and paying Ireland-based migration costs for remote study would be misleading.

The institution is separately identified in the Research Organization Registry, and the award level is read against Ireland’s National Framework of Qualifications. INR comparisons use the dated European Central Bank reference rate, not a future remittance promise. For an eligible in-country route, Irish immigration states the finance rule directly:

A remote enrolment from India does not establish those conditions, and the permission is not a job guarantee.

Can an Indian applicant meet the MIC MA in History requirements?

The programme requires a primary degree in History or a cognate discipline with at least 2.2 honours. MIC’s India rule adds a recognised three-year or four-year honours degree, first division with at least 60% overall, and complete year-by-year marks sheets. Admission remains an individual MIC decision based on the complete file.

MIC can consider applicants who do not meet the normal entry route, but the page gives no formula for that discretion. A focused explanation of prior historical study, research work and the proposed dissertation area is stronger than relying on the exception alone.

How should you apply for the MIC MA in History?

Applications go directly to MIC through the non-EU route when the next cycle opens. September 2026 applications are closed, so the file depends on subject fit, academic and English evidence, and an exact accepting deadline before payment. A viable file needs the current intake, exact route, complete academic evidence and any programme-specific documents before payment.

The route requires evidence of History subject fit, English proficiency, every annual academic record and a live non-EU application cycle.

An expired date is not valid. The next application file cannot proceed until MIC reopens the non-EU route and publishes its accepting date.

The allowances are preparation estimates, not deadlines or processing times published by Mary Immaculate College. Start dates remain unconfirmed.

Indian applicants submit full marks sheets for every academic year. A consolidated statement alone does not meet MIC’s published country instruction. Include certified translations when a document is not in English.

What can the MIC MA in History lead to?

MIC names doctoral research and several History-related fields, including heritage, museums, archives, publishing and public service. It publishes no programme placement rate, salary or employer list, so these remain possible directions rather than measured outcomes. These are curriculum-supported directions, not a placement promise, salary forecast or evidence that every graduate enters the same role.

MIC's career list describes possible uses of the degree. It does not measure the probability of employment, doctoral admission or professional registration.

MIC profiles a graduate who moved into doctoral work in psychiatric history after the MA. That case supports research progression as a credible path, but one institution-selected account cannot establish a typical result.

The programme develops source criticism, qualitative analysis, historiographical judgement and long-form research. Those are transferable capabilities, although the award does not itself qualify a graduate as a registered teacher, archivist or museum professional.

Who should choose the MIC MA in History, and who should not?

The strongest fit meets the History or cognate entry rule, can attend live Irish-time sessions and wants a supervised dissertation. The weakest fit needs Irish campus life, a guaranteed internship, a fixed module specialism or post-study work permission created by this online enrolment. Unpublished placement or salary claims should not influence the shortlist decision.

The course is strongest when independent historical enquiry is the objective. Its research methods, primary-source work and dissertation create a coherent preparation route for doctoral study or evidence-heavy cultural work.

It is a poor match when the value proposition depends on relocating to Ireland. The exact 2026/27 delivery is online, and the page does not promise campus attendance, an internship or an in-country immigration route.

Should an Indian student shortlist the MIC MA in History?

Shortlist it if you want a fully online History master’s built around primary sources, historiography and independent research, and only then. Admission depends first on the History or cognate degree rule at the published 2.2 standard. The decision remains conditional on the live intake, complete eligibility and a budget that does not depend on unverified outcomes.

The programme gives students a structured route from historiographical debate and research methods into a substantial dissertation. Its online timetable can work from India, although three live-class evenings each week reduce the freedom implied by the word online.

Two things are genuinely hard here. The 2026/27 route is wholly online, so remote study from India does not itself create Irish student or post-study work permission. The six-module 2026/27 slate is also not published, which matters if one particular period or method is essential to your decision.
