What is the TCD MSc Computer Science Data Science, and what does it cost?

TCD MSc Computer Science Data Science is a one-calendar-year, 90-ECTS degree with two teaching semesters and an April to August dissertation. The official course record also permits a 60-ECTS postgraduate diploma exit. The INR 61.72 lakh plan uses 2026/27 tuition because the September 2027 fee is unpublished. Programming evidence is the decisive academic screen.

For this Trinity MSc, programming competence is the decisive admission issue. A Computing or related degree with the published 2.1 standard is the academic starting point, but the course may still ask you to sit a programming test in C, C++ or Java. Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics graduates can be considered when they can show good programming skills, and Trinity publishes no India-specific percentage or CGPA conversion for this programme. The previous intake closed in January, so an early complete file matters even though the next course deadline is unpublished.

How much does the full TCD data science master's cost?

The full-year planning range is INR 55.01 lakh to INR 61.72 lakh. It combines the latest published tuition with Trinity’s postgraduate living estimates, the student levy and application fee. The upper figure is safer for household planning because Dublin housing can place actual spending near the top of the range.

ItemINRLocal currencyWhen it is due
Non-EU tuitionINR 31.07 lakhEUR 27,790As set by Trinity's fee schedule
Living and registration, upper estimateINR 30.24 lakhEUR 27,050Across the full academic year
Student levyINR 35,105EUR 314With student charges
Application feeINR 6,149EUR 55When the application is submitted
Full programme, upper planINR 61.72 lakhEUR 55,209

Irish immigration requires immediate access to at least EUR 10,000 plus tuition. That figure is evidence for immigration, not a realistic twelve-month Dublin budget, and credit cards are not accepted as proof. Converted at EUR 1 = INR 111.7985 using the ECB reference rate for 20 August 2026. Flights, a refundable housing deposit, local document charges, a laptop and initial setup are excluded.

The tuition line uses the 2026/27 non-EU fee listed under Masters in Computer Science. Data Science is a strand of that master’s, which supports the mapping even though the fee table does not repeat the strand name. Trinity’s living range already includes rent, insurance and immigration registration. The lower full plan is EUR 49,209, or about INR 55.01 lakh.

The EUR 3,000 Faculty of STEM Indian postgraduate scholarship would reduce tuition by about INR 3.35 lakh. It is for an Indian national resident in India who holds an eligible taught MSc or MPhil offer. No reliable 2027 deadline was verified, so treat it as a possible reduction rather than secured funding.

Irish immigration states

“You must show that you have enough money to support yourself fully in Ireland without recourse to public funds or the reliance on casual employment.”Immigration Service Delivery, student finances

The rule makes casual income unavailable as a funding assumption.

The amount available before travel matters more than the fee invoice alone. Tuition, living funds and one-time charges fall on different dates, while the rupee comparison moves with the exchange rate. A workable family plan therefore keeps a separate cash buffer instead of treating the converted total as a fixed promise.

The European Central Bank reference rate fixes only a dated INR comparison. Later employment conditions follow Department of Enterprise permit rules, not a Trinity placement outcome.

Immigration evidence and a realistic Dublin budget answer different questions. The first shows funds available for the visa decision. The second tests whether the household can actually cover rent, food, transport and study costs over the full programme. Meeting the regulatory minimum does not make a lower living plan realistic, and part-time earnings do not repair a funding gap at application stage.

A scholarship is excluded from the dependable base plan until it has been awarded in writing. Published amounts can be competitive, limited to one year or unavailable to a particular course. The decision should therefore remain affordable without the award. If funding arrives later, it reduces the exposure instead of rescuing an otherwise incomplete budget.

Future fees and currency movement need separate buffers because they are different risks. A later Trinity charge changes the euro amount, while exchange movement changes the rupee cost of every euro. Holding the latest figures flat makes the arithmetic reproducible, but it does not turn the result into a university invoice or a ceiling on final spending.

Can you get in with an Indian degree?

Possibly. An Irish 2.1 means an upper second-class honours degree or its international equivalent. Your transcript and work must also show real programming competence. Trinity publishes no India-specific conversion for this MSc, and the Business School’s 6.8 out of 10 guide does not apply here.

RequirementPublished ruleWhat you do
Primary degree (India)At least an Irish 2.1 honours degree or equivalent from a reputable universitySubmit the degree certificate and transcripts for every year

Student finances (India)Immediate access to at least EUR 10,000 plus tuition for immigrationBuild evidence from acceptable funds and do not use a credit card

Trinity publishes no programming-test format, duration or pass mark. Ask the School whether any new instructions apply to September 2027, and keep time available to revise one of the three named languages after the application is submitted.

Band B includes IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band, Duolingo 120 overall with 100 in each subscore, Cambridge 180 overall with no score below 170, and PTE 69 overall with 59 in each part. An English-medium degree supports only a discretionary waiver request. Formal medium-of-instruction evidence is required, and missing English evidence can delay or defeat the application.

If final results are pending, make every completed semester and relevant module easy to identify. Keep the application factual about marks and projects, and let the School make the equivalence decision for the exact award.

Four checks that decide whether the file is credible

  1. Programming competence is a selection requirement

Choose one assessed project and show the problem, your own contribution, the result and the language used. A reviewer should not need to search across a CV, transcript and repository to understand what you can build.
  2. The Irish 2.1 has no published Indian number here

Upload the complete transcript and the awarding university’s grading scale. Ask the School to assess the exact award instead of relying on a private percentage conversion.
  3. An adjacent quantitative degree still needs code

Connect prior mathematics or engineering modules to this curriculum through named projects and methods. The explanation should show why the degree prepares you for machine learning, statistics and scalable computing.
  4. EUR 10,000 is immigration evidence, not the annual budget

The EUR 10,000 immigration threshold is evidence for a visa file, not Trinity’s annual living budget. The university estimates EUR 21,050 to EUR 27,050 for a postgraduate year. Household planning therefore uses the higher university range, while part-time work and credit cards cannot replace acceptable financial evidence.

How should you apply for the September 2027 cycle?

Apply through MyTCD, but do not treat a missing 2027 deadline as permission to wait. September 2026 closed on 30 January 2026, so this plan works to 15 December 2026 as an Nbyula complete-file target rather than an official Trinity deadline.

Use the MyTCD application link from the official course page. The normal postgraduate application fee is EUR 55 and is non-refundable. After an offer, complete scholarship, fee, immigration and accommodation work as separate tasks.

Your current file status matters more than a generic countdown. If your passport, transcripts and accepted English result are ready, this planning target may be workable. If English testing or a written eligibility decision is pending, request a case review before choosing the intake.

Start byTaskDaysWhy this date

12 Dec 2026Pay and submit3Pay EUR 55, save the receipt and confirm the application is complete.

The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by Trinity College Dublin.

English evidence, academic records and programming evidence can be prepared together. Complete the application only when all three are clear enough to support your academic fit. The 15 December target is 46 days before the previous published close and leaves time to correct a missing document before the year-end break.

The live course page remains authoritative because Trinity may publish a different 2027 date. After an offer, plan tuition, scholarship, immigration funds, insurance and housing separately. The Faculty of STEM scholarship requires an offer, and its 2027 deadline was not verified.

Allow at least 8 weeks before the internal target for the evidence pack. Academic records and English proof can move together, while programming projects need a short explanation of the problem, your own contribution and the language used. Trinity publishes no processing duration for this course, so the gap between the internal target and the previous January closing date is a correction window, not a promised decision period.

The 2027 deadline is not publishedThe 30 January date belongs to the September 2026 intake, which is closed. The 15 December 2026 date above is an Nbyula planning target for a complete September 2027 file. It is not presented as a Trinity closing date.
A complete file includes the decisive evidenceUploading a transcript is not the same as demonstrating programming competence. Make the relevant modules and projects easy to find, and prepare for the published possibility of a C, C++ or Java test.

What can you responsibly say about outcomes?

Trinity publishes no programme-level placement rate, salary or verified graduate destination list for this MSc. The School describes relevant data roles and organisations that employ specialists, which identifies the field but not course outcomes. Employment claims therefore stop at role examples, the curriculum and current Irish work-permission rules.

MeasureFigureBasis
Placement rateNot publishedThe programme and school pages checked do not publish a placement percentage for this exact MSc.
Programme salaryNot publishedNo official source checked gives a salary figure for graduates of this exact programme.
Career directionData and consulting workThe school discusses data scientist and consultant work, supported by machine learning, statistics, computing and research training.
Graduate permissionUp to 24 monthsA graduate of an Irish master's at National Framework Level 9 may receive Stamp 1G graduate immigration permission for 12 months and a possible further 12 months, subject to the rules.

Google, Meta, Amazon, Accenture, McKinsey and PwC appear as examples of organisations that employ data scientists or consultants. Trinity does not identify them as verified employers of graduates from this exact programme, so they are not presented as placement evidence.

Machine learning, statistics, optimisation, visualisation and scalable computing support technical data work. Security, privacy and research methods add context, while the 30 ECTS dissertation can become substantial evidence of research and implementation depending on the project.

This Irish master’s is at National Framework Level 9. An eligible graduate can receive Stamp 1G graduate immigration permission for 12 months, with a possible further 12 months after suitable job-search steps. It permits full-time work but not self-employment. Stamp 2 is the student permission, with work limited to 20 hours a week in term and 40 during specified holidays.

For a job search, treat the dissertation and demonstrable technical work as the main personal evidence. Ask the School for the exact cohort denominator and destination data if a placement claim becomes important to your decision.

Who should apply, and who should look elsewhere?

This route suits applicants who can move from statistical ideas to working software and then sustain an independent research project. It is not a beginner conversion course, a substitute for assessed programming evidence or a low-cost route into Dublin. The strongest fit combines an adjacent degree, demonstrable coding work and a funded one-year plan.

VerdictYour backgroundWhy
Strong fitComputing graduate with substantial programming and quantitative modulesThe academic direction matches, provided the award is assessed as equivalent to an Irish 2.1.
Strong fitEngineering, Mathematics or Statistics graduate with assessed programming projectsThe course explicitly encourages these backgrounds when good programming skills are present.
Needs evidenceStrong Python user with little recent C, C++ or JavaThe profile may still fit, but the published test can use one of those three languages.
Needs evidenceIndian applicant near an assumed CGPA cut-offNo India-specific programme conversion is published, so only Trinity can assess the exact award.
Do not shortlistQuantitative graduate with no substantial programming evidenceMathematics or statistics alone does not meet the stated need for good programming skills.
Do not shortlistBeginner seeking a first conversion course in codingThe programme requires proven competence before admission and may test it.
Do not shortlistBudget dependent on part-time work paying core costsWork rights cannot replace immigration evidence or the realistic annual living plan.

Test your fit by explaining one project from design to debugging, including the language, tests and your contribution. If your degree is adjacent to Computing, compare modules rather than labels. Trinity publishes no fixed subject-credit template, so present the evidence without claiming a formula that does not exist.

The dissertation runs from April to August after two teaching semesters, so the course pace changes quickly from scheduled modules to independent research. Applicants who prefer continuous classroom structure should compare that calendar with programmes that spread a capstone across a longer period.

What do the 90 ECTS contain?

The degree assigns 60 ECTS to taught study and 30 ECTS to the April to August research dissertation. The taught core spans statistical reasoning, machine learning, computation, visual communication, security and research practice. This makes the final third an independent research test rather than another set of classroom modules or a guaranteed industry placement.

ComponentECTSWhere it sits
Core modules and electives60Two teaching semesters

Total90
  • Core study includes Machine Learning and Data Analytics
  • Statistical work includes Applied Statistical Modelling and optimisation
  • Computing includes Data Visualisation, Scalable Computing, Security and Privacy
  • Research Methods and Innovation prepares the dissertation
  • A 60 ECTS exit can earn the postgraduate diploma rather than the MSc

The dissertation is one third of the full MSc and changes the rhythm of the year. You move from scheduled teaching into a sustained project after the two semesters, so topic selection, supervision and project management matter. The 60 ECTS postgraduate diploma is an exit award, not the same qualification as completing the 90 ECTS master’s.

Module names show a mixed technical profile rather than a single narrow specialism. Statistical modelling and optimisation sit beside scalable computing and security, while visualisation and research methods connect analysis to communication and evidence. Elective availability can change, so use the live course record when choosing between offers.

Should you shortlist this TCD data science master's?

Shortlist this MSc when confident programming can be proved through assessed work or substantial projects. The published application requirements make the 2.1 standard important, but coding evidence is the requirement most likely to separate a plausible application from a weak one. The one-year research load and INR 61.72 lakh upper plan also need to suit the applicant.

The degree combines statistical study, scalable computing and a substantial dissertation in one calendar year. You need enough time for an April to August research project and a Dublin budget that doesn't depend on part-time earnings.

The upper full-programme budget is about INR 61.72 lakh before flights, a housing deposit and personal setup. September 2027 tuition is still unpublished, so this figure is a current-data baseline rather than a fee quote for that intake.

Before deciding, compare programming competence, full cost, application timing and outcomes evidence.

Key takeaways
  • The full 90 ECTS MSc runs for one calendar year and includes a 30 ECTS dissertation from April to August.
  • The 2026/27 non-EU tuition is EUR 27,790, and the upper full-programme plan is EUR 55,209 or about INR 61.72 lakh. The September 2027 fee isn't yet published.
  • Selection can include a practical test in C, C++ or Java, so assessed code work belongs in the evidence pack.
  • Trinity publishes no India-specific percentage or CGPA conversion for this programme, and the Business School's 6.8 rule does not apply.
  • September 2026 closed on 30 January 2026, while the September 2027 closing date remains unpublished as checked on 20 August 2026.
  • No programme-level placement rate or salary is published, so role examples and employer examples must not be presented as graduate outcomes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TCD MSc Computer Science Data Science fee for Indian students?

The 2026/27 non-EU tuition is EUR 27,790, about INR 31.07 lakh at the stated ECB rate. The September 2027 fee is not yet published and may change. Adding current tuition, Trinity's upper living estimate, the EUR 314 levy and EUR 55 application fee gives an INR 61.72 lakh planning baseline.

What CGPA do Indian applicants need for TCD Data Science?

Trinity publishes no India-specific percentage or CGPA conversion for this programme. The stated academic standard is at least an Irish 2.1 honours degree or equivalent from a reputable university. Do not apply the Business School's 6.8 out of 10 guide to Computer Science. Ask the School to assess your exact award.

Does TCD require a programming test for this MSc?

It may. Trinity requires proven programming competence and says applicants may be asked to complete a test in C, C++ or Java. The course page does not publish the format, duration or pass mark. Prepare evidence from assessed modules and projects, and revise one of the named languages before applying.

Can an engineering graduate apply for TCD Data Science?

Yes, potentially. Trinity encourages Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics graduates when their prior work includes good programming skills. A quantitative degree title alone is not enough. Use assessed modules, a dissertation, internships or work outputs to show that you can turn quantitative ideas into functioning software.

What is the September 2027 application deadline?

It has not been published in the sources checked on 20 August 2026. The September 2026 intake closed on 30 January 2026. This record uses 15 December 2026 as an Nbyula complete-file target for September 2027, not as a Trinity deadline, and schedules a fresh check for 1 November 2026.

Can an English-medium Indian degree waive IELTS?

Possibly, but not automatically. Trinity allows a postgraduate applicant whose primary degree was wholly taught in English to request an exemption using formal medium-of-instruction evidence from the awarding institution. The decision is discretionary. Because missing English evidence can delay or defeat an application, keep an accepted test route available.

Does TCD publish placements for MSc Data Science?

No programme-level placement rate or salary was published in the official sources checked. The School names roles and organisations that employ data scientists or consultants, but it does not identify those organisations as verified employers of this programme's graduates. Treat the curriculum and dissertation as evidence, not a promised job outcome.
