Tashkent Medical Academy: What Changed in 2026?

Tashkent Medical Academy became part of Tashkent State Medical University in 2025, so a 2026 shortlist cannot treat the old name, its former pediatric institute and its former Urgench branch as unchanged alternatives. Five widely searched medical universities in Uzbekistan now have materially different admission evidence for an Indian applicant.

Tashkent has not yet published its promised 2026 English medium intake notice, Bukhara has suspended Indian admissions for 2026/27, and Samarkand, Andijan and Fergana leave important clinical or licence facts unpublished. The strongest option is the one whose current contract answers the Indian registration questions, not the institution with the most familiar name.

Which options survive 2026?

No institution in this comparison has a blanket NMC approval. NMC’s 1 April 2026 Uzbekistan advisory warns Indian students about course duration, medium, syllabus, hands on clinical training, internship and local licence eligibility. It doesn’t exempt a famous name from those questions.

Tashkent remains assessable because its official system is active and General Medicine is listed for six years, but the open 2026 route is in Uzbek and Russian. Samarkand publishes a defined international admission procedure and English teaching availability, although the contract still needs to settle clinical language and licence eligibility. Andijan publishes a current intake notice but less programme detail. Fergana’s official material is too incomplete for a firm India return finding.

Bukhara is the clearest exclusion for a new Indian applicant in 2026/27. Its own notice suspends Indian admission for that academic year. That position is not a judgement about earlier students or the institution’s academic standing. It is a current intake restriction that belongs above any fee, ranking or hostel comparison.

What is Tashkent now?

The institution commonly searched as Tashkent Medical Academy changed in 2025. A presidential decision created Tashkent State Medical University from the academy, Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute and Tashkent State Dental Institute. The Ministry of Health announcement also reorganised the former Urgench branch as Urgench State Medical Institute.

This matters because old websites, agent brochures and ranking searches may still use separate legacy names. A 2026 offer needs the current legal entity, campus and awarding institution. Tashkent State Medical University, its Termez or Chirchiq branch, and Urgench State Medical Institute are not interchangeable merely because they share an institutional history.

The current foreign applicant page lists General Medicine for six years. The admission dates shown are 22 June to 30 July 2026 for Russian and Uzbek teaching. English medium information is promised separately, which means the current page does not support a claim that the 2026 English intake is already open.

An older 2025 English intake notice required Class 12, a NEET score for Indian applicants and an online interview. It also required first semester payment within seven days to the official university account. Those were real 2025 terms, but they are not a substitute for a 2026 offer.

How do five options compare?

The institutions publish different kinds of evidence. Tashkent publishes programme duration and a current intake route. Samarkand publishes the selection subjects, languages and international support services. Bukhara publishes a decisive restriction. Andijan publishes a current admission announcement. Fergana confirms the institution’s activity but not enough of the complete programme record.

A fair comparison therefore does not force every row into a false score. A recorded silence stays a silence. It does not become zero quality, and it does not become a favourable assumption. The following table shows what the official sources establish and where a family still carries uncertainty.

The MBBS in Uzbekistan feasibility test applies the same NMC conditions to any offer. This prevents a weak comparison in which a ranking, an old fee or an admission representative stands in for the facts that determine registration.

What does Samarkand publish?

Samarkand State Medical University’s international admission procedure describes an interview in biology, chemistry and the language of instruction. It asks for passport and education documents, medical material and registration through the official international study system. The process gives applicants a university controlled route rather than an agent only route.

The university’s official FAQ states that teaching is available in Uzbek, Russian and English. Its international timetable displays six course years, which is consistent with a long medical programme. Neither page alone establishes how the 54 months of teaching and separate 12 month internship are recorded in the final contract.

Samarkand’s registrar services include tuition contracts, visa support, temporary registration and international student consultation. This is useful evidence that the university itself manages core parts of the international relationship. It does not prove that every clinical placement is conducted in English or that every foreign graduate becomes eligible for an Uzbek medical licence.

The NMC advisory names Samarkand among the institutions for which students should exercise caution. That warning does not declare every Samarkand programme invalid. It raises the evidence bar. A current contract, academic calendar, clinical rotation plan, internship order and licence statement must answer the advisory’s specific risks.

Is Bukhara open?

No, not for a new Indian student in the 2026/27 academic year under the current official notice. Bukhara State Medical Institute says admission of students from India is temporarily suspended and that any resumption will be announced. The word temporarily does not create a present intake.

Bukhara’s older general international admission page remains online and describes an oral interview in biology, chemistry and English or Russian. That page explains the usual mechanism for foreign students, but the later India specific suspension controls the current answer for an Indian applicant.

The NMC advisory also records complaints about the role of a private contractor connected with Bukhara. The regulator tells students to deal through verified institutional channels and exercise caution before making payment. The university’s current suspension removes the immediate need to compare agent offers because a new Indian admission is not available through the official route.

What about Andijan and Fergana?

Andijan State Medical Institute’s 2026 announcement lists General Medicine among the available fields. This is current evidence of admission activity. The English notice does not provide a complete current international tuition, internship structure, clinical language or local licence route.

Fergana State Medical Institute of Public Health maintains an official site and publishes evidence of international medical activity. Current English material does not provide one complete 2026 record joining admission, fee, English delivery, clinical work, internship and licence eligibility. Fergana therefore remains a research option rather than a proven India return option.

Both institutions could become stronger choices when their programme documents supply the missing answers. A missing webpage can be resolved by an official signed document, but the document must come from the university and be consistent with the regulator’s rules. A sales representative’s explanation cannot bind the institution or NMC.

The same approach applies to Urgench. Search demand still uses the former Tashkent Medical Academy Urgench branch name, but the government notice says it was reorganised as Urgench State Medical Institute. Any current offer should carry the new legal name and explain the awarding institution.

Do rankings settle quality?

No. A ranking can describe research reputation, citations, international outlook or another published method. It can’t show whether the exact General Medicine intake is in English, whether patients can be examined directly, whether the internship belongs to the same institution or whether a foreign graduate qualifies for an Uzbek licence.

A Tashkent Medical Academy world ranking may also attach to the legacy institution rather than the reorganised 2026 university. The name change makes the ranking date and institutional scope especially important. A result covering the former academy does not automatically include every new faculty or branch.

International accreditation has a similarly limited role. It can be meaningful evidence about a programme review, but it is not an Indian registration decision. NMC’s conditions operate independently. The World Directory of Medical Schools is also a directory, not an approval list.

Rankings become useful after the regulatory and financial facts are stable. They can help compare research environment, teaching resources or visibility among two otherwise workable offers. They should not move an institution past an unresolved English, internship or licence question. The same distinction shapes comparisons of medical universities in Georgia and medical universities in Russia.

What evidence decides?

The decisive file begins with the current legal university name and campus. It then joins the official offer, complete curriculum, academic calendar, teaching and assessment language, clinical hospital list, internship order, state examination and local registration path. Documents that don’t name the same programme and intake cannot settle the offer.

Money belongs in the same file. An official tuition invoice, hostel allocation, compulsory charges and refund terms make the full Uzbekistan student budget possible. A low agent quotation without a university invoice creates both financial and academic uncertainty.

Migration evidence comes after admission. Uzbekistan’s A 1 student visa is initiated on an educational institution’s request. The government portal says foreign nationals generally register their place of stay within three working days. Samarkand lists visa and temporary registration among its registrar services, while another university may organise the process through a different office.
