Georgia here means the country, not the US state. Official records for 5 medical universities differ in accreditation freshness, admission, Georgian preparation for patient contact and final-year detail. Those differences matter more than a generic ranking of university names.

Georgia awards a six-year Medical Doctor degree that Indian families commonly call MBBS. This comparison covers Tbilisi State Medical University, David Tvildiani Medical University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and European University, with BAU International University Batumi as an additional evidence-rich option. It compares what each institution currently publishes and leaves gaps visible instead of filling them with estimates.

How should you compare medical universities in Georgia?

Compare the evidence each university publishes, not a label such as oldest, cheapest or best. Accreditation validity, fee date, admission detail, patient-language preparation and the final clinical phase reveal more than reputation alone. An unpublished field is a genuine limitation in the comparison.

The same six fields apply to every option.

  1. Institutional status. The university appears as authorised in Georgia’s official EQE registry.
  2. Programme status. The English Medical Doctor programme has its own accreditation evidence and validity date.
  3. Published price. The university gives an official tuition figure, payment period and cohort where stated.
  4. Admission conditions. The current process names the secondary-school documents, English evidence, interview or science test.
  5. Clinical-language preparation. The curriculum explains whether and how a student learns Georgian for patient communication.
  6. Final clinical phase. The programme states the clerkship, rotation or internship subjects, credits, supervision and documents.

A public university isn’t automatically stronger than a private university, and a lower fee doesn’t prove better value. TSMU and BSU are public institutions. DTMU, European University and BAU are private. The useful differences sit in the programme records and in what remains unpublished.

What do Georgian accreditation and WDOMS listing prove?

They prove different things. Georgia’s National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, usually called EQE, authorises institutions and accredits individual programmes. The current EQE registry lists all five universities in this comparison as authorised. The official English Medical Doctor programme list records their named English programmes as accredited to 31 December 2027.

EQE also explains the common national shape of medical education. A six-year programme is the regulated starting structure, but each university can arrange admission and clinical study differently.

The educational programme of higher medical education in Georgia lasts for 6 years, and the graduate is awarded the qualification of a certified medical doctor.National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement

Programme-level evidence is the more precise check. TSMU has an individual positive decision valid to 16 June 2028. DTMU’s individual decision runs to 29 June 2028 and records a positive outcome with conditions or restrictions, followed by an EQE notice in 2022 that received the required report. For BSU, European University and BAU, the dated national list is the official English-programme record located for this comparison, so their position needs a fresh check for a 2028 start.

WDOMS records medical schools and programme details. It doesn’t accredit a university or decide whether India will register a graduate.

The listing of a medical school in the World Directory of Medical Schools does not denote recognition, accreditation, or endorsement.World Directory of Medical Schools

This distinction also corrects two misleading forms of university marketing. DTMU’s current programme page uses the phrase “WFME Certified”, while European University’s admissions page refers to recognition by the former Medical Council of India. WDOMS warns that WFME does not accredit medical schools, and NMC does not endorse a list of foreign universities.

How do five Georgian medical universities compare?

The matrix applies the same evidence fields to each university. Annual tuition is in US dollars because that is how the universities publish it. A blank or dated field is not an estimate. It marks a limit on what can be concluded for a 2027 or 2028 offer.

University and city English programme and EQE evidence Annual tuition (USD) Published admission evidence Clinical language and final phase Main unresolved point
Tbilisi State Medical University, Tbilisi Six years, 12 semesters and 360 ECTS. Individual positive EQE decision to 16 June 2028. 8,000 on the live fee page Passport, full secondary qualification and at least B1 English. The university says NEET is not part of its local admission. Named clinical modules. Georgian is taught and recommended for patient interaction. No published 2027 to 2028 fee or deadline, and no separately described internship certificate.
David Tvildiani Medical University, Tbilisi and Rustavi Six years and 360 ECTS. Individual EQE decision to 29 June 2028, with a recorded condition and later report notice. Not published on the accessible official pages The hosted 2017 regulation describes a language interview, secondary documents, a motivation letter and an English Chemistry-Biology test at 51 per cent. The regulation describes bedside clinical medicine and a final clinical clerkship with supervision and logbook assessment. Current tuition, admission rules, intake dates and a newer formal curriculum are not public in the material reviewed.
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Batumi English Medical Doctor, 360 ECTS. Listed by EQE with accreditation to 31 December 2027. 5,000 only for students enrolled in 2025 to 2026 The current annotation states the legal admission routes but no India-specific checklist or current English-test score. Current curriculum includes Georgian communication and five 6-ECTS clerkships in semester XII. No 2027 to 2028 fee, current Indian admission list or separate internship wording.
European University, Tbilisi English MD, six years and 360 credits. The national EQE record gives 31 December 2027 as the accreditation end date. 6,500 on a page updated 26 March 2026 Notarised citizenship and secondary documents, online eligibility interview and an English exam with speaking and writing. The faculty reports about 60 clinic agreements and a simulation centre. No comparable public final-year schedule or Georgian-language requirement was found. Clinical hours, patient access, detailed current curriculum and 2027 to 2028 intake dates are unpublished.
BAU International University Batumi, Batumi English Medicine, six years and 360 ECTS. Accreditation appears on the national EQE list through 31 December 2027. 6,500, paid as 3,250 per semester, plus a 500 application fee after conditional offer BAU asks Indian citizens for NEET and publishes B2 English test routes or its own proficiency test. Foreign students complete 22 Georgian-language credits. Final-year subjects are labelled Internship I and Internship II. Detailed final-phase evidence remains incomplete.

Official evidence checked on 14 August 2026. Fees are current public figures, not guarantees for a later intake.

The final column changes the apparent order. A low published fee can sit beside an expired cohort, while a detailed clinical description can come from an older regulation. The matrix therefore measures evidence quality, not prestige.

What does Tbilisi State Medical University publish?

TSMU provides the strongest combination of an individual EQE decision, a formal English programme summary and a public fee. The English Medical Doctor document states six academic years, 12 semesters and 360 ECTS. It names clinical modules across medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, psychiatry and emergency care.

The official international fee page lists USD 8,000 per year for the English programme. TSMU separately lists a higher-priced American MD route, so the two programmes shouldn’t be mixed in a fee comparison.

For admission, the international application page asks for a passport, a full secondary certificate and at least B1 English evidence. It also describes Georgian translation, notarisation and qualification recognition. The live TSMU FAQ says there are generic Fall and Spring intakes and that NEET is not required by TSMU itself.

  • The fee page has no visible cohort or update date, so USD 8,000 is a current public figure rather than a 2027 to 2028 guarantee.
  • The public programme summary lists clinical modules but does not describe a separate 12-month internship certificate.

What does David Tvildiani Medical University publish?

DTMU publishes a detailed clinical model, but several offer terms require direct confirmation. The current programme page gives six years and 360 ECTS, while the more detailed academic regulation is dated 2017. The older date must remain visible whenever its admission or clerkship detail is used.

The regulation describes a university language interview and asks foreign applicants for a secondary qualification, mark sheet or recognition document and a motivation letter. It also gives a science test threshold.

MCQ-type English complex test in Chemistry-biology … confirmation with 51% competence limit.David Tvildiani Medical University academic regulation

The same regulation divides medical study into theoretical medicine, clinical medicine and clinical clerkship. It describes bedside teaching with ambulatory and hospital patients, supervised work and assessment through a portfolio or logbook. Compulsory clerkship fields include internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, infectious diseases and neurology.

The accreditation history needs a careful reading. The 2021 EQE decision was positive with conditions or restrictions and required a progress report within one year. EQE later recorded the report as received in October 2022. That sequence can be stated. It cannot be simplified into a claim that an independent review found every condition permanently closed.

No current official DTMU tuition or 2027 to 2028 intake calendar appeared on the accessible official pages. An agent’s USD figure therefore has weaker evidence than a university fee page and should remain outside the comparison.

What does Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University publish?

BSU publishes a current curriculum with a clearly counted final semester. Its programme page updated 11 August 2026 also dates the tuition claim to a specific entry cohort.

consists of 5000$ for the students who have enrolled in 2025-2026 academic year.Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University

The update date does not extend that price to a later intake. A 2027 applicant needs a new official BSU schedule before comparing the offer with another university.

The current programme annotation states English, Medical Doctor and 360 ECTS. It describes admission through Georgian national examinations, mobility or the legal route for studying without those examinations. It does not publish an Indian marks cut-off or a current English-test score.

The curriculum dated 26 February 2024 gives 30 ECTS to five clerkships in semester XII. They cover paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery, internal diseases and emergency medicine. The same curriculum includes communication-focused Georgian courses, which makes BSU’s patient-language preparation more visible than a general promise of English instruction.

What does European University publish?

European University has the freshest dated admissions and fee page in the main four. Its international admissions page updated 26 March 2026 states six years, 360 credits, English instruction and USD 6,500 per year. This corrects the older USD 5,900 figure that still appears in planning material.

The application process is also public. International applicants submit notarised citizenship and full-secondary documents, complete an online eligibility interview and write a distance English examination with speaking and writing components. The university then sends the qualification documents through the Georgian recognition and study-right process.

The Faculty of Medicine reports cooperation agreements with about 60 Georgian clinics and a simulation centre. That count describes the network. It doesn’t state how many hours one student spends with patients, the supervision ratio, the hospitals assigned to each semester or the certificate issued after the final clinical phase.

  • The official annual fee is USD 6,500 as of the admissions page’s March 2026 update.
  • The English exam covers speaking and writing, rather than relying only on a certificate named on the public page.
  • No current detailed public curriculum found in the dossier proves the final-year structure or a Georgian-language requirement.

Why is BAU International University Batumi useful in the comparison?

BAU is useful because it publishes details that are missing from several larger-name options. It is not presented as a fifth-ranked university. The official Medicine page gives an English six-year, 360-ECTS programme and shows 22 Georgian-language credits for foreign students.

The international admission page expressly asks Indian citizens for NEET. It also publishes several B2 English test routes or BAU’s own proficiency test. Annual tuition is USD 6,500, payable as USD 3,250 per semester, and the application fee is USD 500 after a conditional offer.

BAU labels sixth-year subjects as Internship I and Internship II. The fields include internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, surgery, paediatrics and family medicine.

BAU also proves why a universal Georgia admission checklist would be wrong. TSMU says NEET is not part of its local admission, while BAU asks Indian citizens for it. NEET must therefore remain a university-specific admission field in this comparison.

Which universities publish patient-language preparation?

TSMU, BSU and BAU are the three universities in this evidence set whose programmes publish patient-language preparation. English can cover teaching and assessment while Georgian remains relevant when students speak with patients. The university comparison needs one field for instruction language and another for patient-language preparation because the first does not prove the second.

The official evidence shows three different levels of detail.

Before accepting an offer, ask when compulsory Georgian begins, what level is expected before the first patient-facing rotation and how the university checks clinical communication.

Do clerkship and internship labels mean the same thing at every university?

No. The public curricula use different words for clinical study and attach different credit loads to them. DTMU describes a final clinical clerkship with bedside work and logbook assessment. BSU gives 30 ECTS to five clerkships in semester XII. BAU uses Internship I and Internship II within year six. TSMU lists clinical modules, while European University publishes clinic partnerships rather than a comparable final-year schedule.

The words alone cannot make the programmes equivalent. A curriculum should show at least these details.

  • The semester and exact start and end dates of the clinical phase.
  • The credits, contact hours and hospital sites for each discipline.
  • The type of patient contact and the supervision arrangement.
  • The logbook, assessment and attendance rules.
  • The name and issue date of the final clinical certificate.
  • Whether the degree is awarded before or after that certificate.

Is there an NMC-approved list of medical universities in Georgia?

No. The National Medical Commission does not endorse a list of foreign medical universities. Its official study-abroad guidance places responsibility on the student to check the course and its conditions.

University selection and Indian medical registration are separate decisions. Use this page to compare Georgian institutions, then use the India-return assessment for MBBS in Georgia to examine the foreign-graduate conditions against the chosen programme’s documents.

What should you collect before paying a Georgian medical university?

A payment-ready shortlist contains documents, not verbal assurances. The current evidence should come from the university, EQE and the relevant regulator, with the programme name and cohort matching the offer.

  1. Record the exact English Medical Doctor programme name shown in the offer.
  2. Save the current EQE institution record and the programme-level accreditation decision with its expiry date.
  3. Obtain the official 2027 to 2028 tuition schedule, payment dates, application charge and refund terms.
  4. Match the university’s secondary-school, English, interview and science-test requirements to your documents.
  5. Compare the current six-year curriculum against the clinical-phase document fields listed above.
  6. Ask for the Georgian-language timetable before the first patient-facing rotation.
  7. Budget tuition separately from the cost of studying and living in Georgia because a low annual fee does not include six years of living.
  8. Keep the Georgia student visa and residence process separate from admission because an offer does not create lawful long-term stay by itself.

A family comparing medicine with other subjects will find a different institution set in the wider Georgia universities comparison. The study in Georgia overview connects the medical, university, cost and visa decisions without turning them into one approval claim.

Key takeaways

  • Public or private ownership does not create a ranking.
  • Read every fee with its cohort, payment period and refund terms.
  • Ask when Georgian teaching begins and how patient communication is assessed.
  • Treat an unpublished field as uncertainty, not as a favourable assumption.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best medical university in Georgia for Indian students?

No university leads every published field. Compare the exact programme through the matrix, then resolve its final-column gaps in writing.

Is Tbilisi State Medical University accredited?

Yes. EQE’s individual decision records a positive outcome for TSMU’s English Medical Doctor programme, 360 ECTS, valid to 16 June 2028. Its programme document separately states six years and English instruction. The decision expiry needs another check before a later intake enrols.

What is David Tvildiani Medical University’s current tuition?

No current official figure was available on 14 August 2026. Obtain DTMU’s intake-specific schedule in writing before payment.

Is BSU’s USD 5,000 medical fee current for 2027?

No. The BSU programme page limits that figure to 2025 to 2026 entrants, so a 2027 applicant needs a new schedule.

Does European University teach medicine in English?

Yes. Its international admissions page lists English as the instruction language for the six-year, 360-credit Medical Doctor programme. The same page gives USD 6,500 annual tuition and requires international applicants to complete an English exam with speaking and writing. It does not publish a current Georgian-language requirement.

Do medical students in Georgia need to learn Georgian?

Yes, patient-facing study can require it even in an English programme. Check the compulsory language credits and the level expected before clinical rotations.

What should an Indian student verify after finding a Georgian university in WDOMS?

Treat WDOMS inclusion as directory evidence only. Then check the exact EQE programme decision and the separate Indian foreign-graduate conditions.

Does a sixth-year clerkship count as a medical internship?

The label alone cannot decide this. Use the India-return assessment to check the programme’s clinical documents against Indian requirements.
