What is Leuphana BA Studium Individuale?

Leuphana BA Studium Individuale is a three-year, 180-ECTS liberal-education degree with 40 places and a first-year plan of about INR 13.86 lakh. The official programme page leaves roughly two-thirds of study for student choice. It suits applicants who can design a coherent profile, not those who simply prefer variety over a defined discipline.

Seven core modules move through knowledge, modern Europe, culture and critique, reflection, collaborative research and contemporary societies. Electives, a minor and Complementary Studies then supply most of the disciplinary content.

Freedom creates a real planning obligation. Many electives may require German, and a later discipline-specific master’s can ask for credits that this BA does not automatically provide. The student must build those credits deliberately; the degree title alone cannot prove a conventional subject major.

How much does Leuphana BA Studium Individuale cost?

The first-year planning total is EUR 13,043.48, about INR 13.86 lakh. It combines two current semester contributions, twelve months at Leuphana’s EUR 1,000 living estimate and one EUR 75 uni-assist application. Regular tuition is zero. Visa, APS, flights, deposits and future increases remain outside the total.

The blocked-account or other proof-of-funds amount is evidence that living money is available, not a second living-cost row. Converted at EUR 1 = INR 106.2490, the ECB reference rate on 22 October 2026. Bank rates differ.

“Blocked bank account (“Sperrkonto”) in Germany with sufficient funds to cover the first year of studies”German Missions in India, study visa funding rule

The German Missions in India funding rule supports the blocked-account requirement described here. The rupee conversions use the European Central Bank reference rate of EUR 1 = INR 106.2490 dated 22 October 2026.

Leuphana’s central fee page gives EUR 484.24 for winter 2026/27, superseding the roughly EUR 452.92 on older programme pages. The official uni-assist payment page gives EUR 75 for the first chosen course. The contribution stated in the eventual enrolment notice will control the amount actually payable.

The university’s EUR 1,000 monthly living estimate is a planning average. Published rent runs from EUR 320 to EUR 530, with an average shared-flat room around EUR 425, and Leuphana warns that housing is difficult to secure. A deposit and temporary accommodation can therefore raise arrival cash above this table.

Leuphana’s immigration page states EUR 992 per month as the current proof level and forecasts EUR 1,025 per month for winter 2027/28. The visa amount in force at application controls. It shouldn’t be added again to the living row because the same money is used for living expenses.

At current rates, three years would mean six semester contributions and 36 months of living, not three repetitions of the application fee. Future contribution, rent, insurance and food increases make any full-degree total an estimate rather than a published price.

Can an Indian applicant meet Leuphana BA Studium Individuale entry rules?

The formal starting point is a recognised university entrance qualification, followed by English core evidence under the programme's exact rule. Indian credentials go through uni-assist and may require APS. BA Studium Individuale is admission-restricted, so a valid file enters selection rather than creating a right to a place.

RequirementPublished ruleWhat you do
University entrance qualification (India)A recognised school-leaving credential; no India-specific percentage publishedSubmit Standard XII and any previous study
English test (India)TOEFL iBT 90 with R21, L19, S22, W20 or another accepted routeMeet all component and total conditions
Alternative English proof (India)IELTS 6.5, specified Cambridge, PTE, TOEIC or accepted education evidenceUse one complete published route
German (India)Not required for the English coreExpect fewer elective choices without German
APS (India)Required for Indian credentials where applicableComplete APS for uni-assist
Selection (India)40 places and 5% non-EU quotaTreat past admission results as non-binding

The English certificate is a formal threshold, while the application also competes through the converted entrance grade. Passing one does not settle the other.

Leuphana publishes no India-specific percentage guarantee. Uni-assist establishes whether the school credential gives university access, and Leuphana ranks valid non-EU files.

No work experience, GRE or GMAT is required. Optional TestAS is taken in English for this English-taught major and can add selection points.

Three BA Studium Individuale conditions that remain separate

  1. One Leuphana bachelor application

The choice is binding for this cycle.
“You can only apply for one Bachelor’s programme.”Leuphana University Lüneburg
  2. Eligibility is not an offer

Uni-assist confirmation means the file can enter selection. Leuphana states that it does not automatically mean a study place.

  3. The programme language rule controls

English core evidence must meet the exact rule for BA Studium Individuale; a different Leuphana programme can have a different threshold.

How should an Indian applicant apply for Leuphana BA Studium Individuale?

Leuphana publishes a recurring mid-May to 15 July application window for an October start, but it has not yet opened a dated 2027 round. Treat 15 July 2027 as a planning assumption, not an announced deadline. Non-EU applicants use uni-assist, and Leuphana recommends submitting the complete file six weeks early.

Non-EU applicants with foreign entrance credentials use uni-assist; Leuphana does not use a VPD for this application.

16 May 2027Complete admission, finance and enrolment tasks60The offer, health insurance, funding and immigration stages remain separate.

The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by Leuphana University Lüneburg.

The non-EU application page requires an online-only uni-assist application. It names the school-leaving certificate, any prior degree or study record, APS where applicable, passport and certified translations among the evidence.

Leuphana permits only one bachelor application and no first and second choice. For BA Studium Individuale, an incorrect programme choice cannot be rescued by asking the university to consider another major after the deadline.

Uni-assist checks document validity and the entrance qualification. Leuphana then runs its own restricted-course selection. The 5% quota for non-EU applicants with a foreign entrance qualification and any TestAS bonus are part of that second stage.

Admission doesn’t complete enrolment or immigration. Health insurance, the payable semester contribution, proof of funds and the visa or residence process follow on their own timetable.

The six-week recommendation is not a second deadline

Leuphana currently publishes 15 July as the recurring closing date. The dated 2027 round is not yet open, so confirm the cycle page before relying on it.

What can follow Leuphana BA Studium Individuale?

The curriculum supports the directions below, but Leuphana publishes no BA Studium Individuale placement rate, cohort salary or employment guarantee. The strongest evidence will come from the programme's assessed work, subject choices and thesis. Regulated occupations remain governed by separate qualification and recognition rules.

MeasureFigureBasis
Self-designed academic profileInterdisciplinary project or further studyDepends on coherent module choices
Collaborative Research ProjectResearch and teamwork evidenceUseful when the output is documented
Discipline-specific master'sPossible only with required prior creditsMust be planned through electives
Programme placement rateNot publishedNo fixed profession or salary guarantee

These are curriculum-linked directions, not measured probabilities or promised jobs.

The degree can support interdisciplinary research, cultural, policy, organisational or project roles depending on the chosen modules. Those are profile-dependent directions rather than programme-wide outcomes.

The Collaborative Research Project and dissertation can make an individually designed profile visible. A scattered module list without a clear question weakens the same advantage.

Leuphana publishes no programme placement percentage, salary table or employer list. No fixed occupation should be inferred from the BA title.

Who is Leuphana BA Studium Individuale for, and who should avoid it?

This programme fits only when its actual language, academic sequence and professional limit match the applicant's plan. The table separates a clear fit from conditions and genuine no-fit cases. Funding also has to cover three years without depending on an unconfirmed job, scholarship or future exchange rate.

VerdictYour backgroundWhy
Strong fitApplicant with a clear interdisciplinary questionThe elective freedom can build a distinctive profile.
Strong fitApplicant willing to plan future master's prerequisitesTwo-thirds choice can be directed towards required credits.
Needs evidenceApplicant needing English across all studyThe core is English, but electives can require German.
Needs evidenceApplicant still exploring fieldsExploration works only with active academic planning.
Do not shortlistApplicant seeking a prescribed professionThe degree has no fixed vocational sequence.
Do not shortlistApplicant assuming any master's remains openLater programmes can require discipline-specific credits.

A sound choice isn’t based on the university name; it starts with the curriculum. Applicant with a clear interdisciplinary question has a reason to use the compulsory modules, while applicant seeking a prescribed profession faces a structural mismatch.

The financial plan uses current charges and living guidance. It needs room for housing deposits, later increases and currency movement because none of those is fixed for all six semesters.

German is not required for the English core, but elective choice can narrow without it. Applicants should distinguish the language of the compulsory core from the language of every possible module.

No fixed profession follows from the programme. That is useful for students building an unusual profile and a poor fit for anyone who wants the degree title to communicate a standard occupation by itself.

What does the Leuphana BA Studium Individuale curriculum contain?

Studium Individuale combines seven named core modules with a large self-designed share, a minor, Complementary Studies and the dissertation. The official web plan identifies semester positions but not a separate credit value for each listed choice. The total is 180 ECTS, and roughly two-thirds is selected by the student.

The elective rows are intentionally generic because Leuphana does not publish one fixed elective list that every Studium Individuale student completes. Naming invented common modules would misrepresent the degree.

The core progresses from ways of knowing and modern Europe into critique, reflection, collaborative research and analysis of contemporary societies.

Future-study planning belongs inside curriculum choice. A target master’s subject-credit requirement should shape electives before the transcript is fixed.

Should an Indian applicant shortlist Leuphana BA Studium Individuale?

Shortlist Studium Individuale for an English-capable, independent student who can plan electives around a clear question and future master's requirements. Avoid it when a prescribed professional curriculum, fixed disciplinary transcript or English-only guarantee across every elective is essential. Flexibility is the degree's main strength and its main academic risk.

The core teaches students to examine knowledge and construct an interdisciplinary path. The harder task is external legibility: employers and master's admissions teams need to understand what the student actually studied. A coherent elective and thesis record matters more here than in a conventional named discipline.

The degree does not automatically supply the subject-credit pattern required by a discipline-specific master's.
