What is Leuphana LLB Law?
Leuphana LLB Law is a three-year, 180-ECTS German degree with a first-year plan of about INR 13.86 lakh. The official programme page covers civil, criminal, public, commercial and EU law. It doesn’t make a graduate a German Volljurist, so applicants should settle that limit before treating it as a lawyer-qualification route.
The doctrinal sequence begins with legal method and civil law, then adds obligations, property, public law and criminal law across several semesters. Commercial and Corporate Law, EU Law, procedure choices, a legal seminar and the bachelor thesis appear later.
A minor and Complementary Studies broaden the degree beyond the law major. Leuphana also describes a further route towards the First State Examination. That later route is distinct from completing the LLB and should not be presented as an automatic consequence of admission.
How much does Leuphana LLB Law cost?
The first-year planning total is EUR 13,043.48, about INR 13.86 lakh. It combines two current semester contributions, twelve months at Leuphana’s EUR 1,000 living estimate and one EUR 75 uni-assist application. Regular tuition is zero. Visa, APS, flights, deposits and future increases remain outside the total.
| Item | INR | Local currency | When it is due |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular tuition | INR 0 | EUR 0 | Current public-university rule |
| Semester contributions for one year | INR 1.03 lakh | EUR 968.48 | Two terms at winter 2026/27 rate |
| Living plan for twelve months | INR 12.75 lakh | EUR 12,000 | EUR 1,000 each month |
| uni-assist application | INR 7,969 | EUR 75 | First application |
| First-year planning total | INR 13.86 lakh | EUR 13,043.48 | Before visa, APS, flights and deposit |
The blocked-account or other proof-of-funds amount is evidence that living money is available, not a second living-cost row. Converted at EUR 1 = INR 106.2490, the ECB reference rate on 22 October 2026. Bank rates differ.
“Blocked bank account (“Sperrkonto”) in Germany with sufficient funds to cover the first year of studies”German Missions in India, study visa funding rule
The German Missions in India funding rule supports the blocked-account requirement described here. The rupee conversions use the European Central Bank reference rate of EUR 1 = INR 106.2490 dated 22 October 2026.
Leuphana’s central fee page gives EUR 484.24 for winter 2026/27, superseding the roughly EUR 452.92 on older programme pages. The official uni-assist payment page gives EUR 75 for the first chosen course. The contribution stated in the eventual enrolment notice will control the amount actually payable.
The university’s EUR 1,000 monthly living estimate is a planning average. Published rent runs from EUR 320 to EUR 530, with an average shared-flat room around EUR 425, and Leuphana warns that housing is difficult to secure. A deposit and temporary accommodation can therefore raise arrival cash above this table.
Leuphana’s immigration page states EUR 992 per month as the current proof level and forecasts EUR 1,025 per month for winter 2027/28. The visa amount in force at application controls. It shouldn’t be added again to the living row because the same money is used for living expenses.
At current rates, three years would mean six semester contributions and 36 months of living, not three repetitions of the application fee. Future contribution, rent, insurance and food increases make any full-degree total an estimate rather than a published price.
Can an Indian applicant meet Leuphana LLB Law entry rules?
The formal starting point is a recognised university entrance qualification, followed by German evidence under the programme's exact rule. Indian credentials go through uni-assist and may require APS. LLB Law is admission-restricted, so a valid file enters selection rather than creating a right to a place.
| Requirement | Published rule | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| University entrance qualification (India) | A recognised school-leaving credential; no Indian percentage guarantee | Submit Standard XII and any previous study |
| German (India) | DSH-2, TestDaF 16 with each part at least 4, DSD II, Goethe C2 or an accepted route | Meet the law programme's German bar |
| English (India) | Separate English proof under the German-major rule | Provide an accepted school, study or test route |
| APS (India) | Required for Indian credentials where applicable | Complete APS before uni-assist review |
| TestAS (India) | Optional, up to ten selection points | Take the German version for this major |
| Selection (India) | 117 places and a 5% non-EU quota | Treat the converted grade as competitive |
Legal study in German demands more than conversational ability. The published certificate threshold is the formal bar, while reading statutes, judgments and examination questions creates the practical workload.
English evidence remains separate even though the degree is German-taught. A strong English score cannot substitute for German, and a German certificate cannot remove the English evidence rule.
No work experience, LSAT, GRE or GMAT is published as a requirement. Optional TestAS can add selection points but does not test professional legal qualification.
Three LLB Law conditions that remain separate
One Leuphana bachelor application
The choice is binding for this cycle.“You can only apply for one Bachelor’s programme.”Leuphana University Lüneburg
Eligibility is not an offer
Uni-assist confirmation means the file can enter selection. Leuphana states that it does not automatically mean a study place.
The programme language rule controls
German evidence must meet the exact rule for LLB Law; a different Leuphana programme can have a different threshold.
How should an Indian applicant apply for Leuphana LLB Law?
Leuphana publishes a recurring mid-May to 15 July application window for an October start, but it has not yet opened a dated 2027 round. Treat 15 July 2027 as a planning assumption, not an announced deadline. Non-EU applicants use uni-assist, and Leuphana recommends submitting the complete file six weeks early.
Non-EU applicants with foreign entrance credentials use uni-assist; Leuphana does not use a VPD for this application.
| Start by | Task | Days | Why this date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 03 Feb 2027 | Complete APS where applicable | 60 | Indian academic documents may need APS before uni-assist review. |
| 21 Feb 2027 | Check the exact programme and language rule | 21 | Match the entrance credential and German evidence to LLB Law. |
| 14 Mar 2027 | Prepare the online-only file | 21 | School certificate, prior study if any, passport, translations and language evidence. |
| 04 Apr 2027 | Submit through uni-assist | 42 | Leuphana recommends six weeks before its recurring 15 July closing date. |
| 16 May 2027 | Complete admission, finance and enrolment tasks | 60 | The offer, health insurance, funding and immigration stages remain separate. |
The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by Leuphana University Lüneburg.
The non-EU application page requires an online-only uni-assist application. It names the school-leaving certificate, any prior degree or study record, APS where applicable, passport and certified translations among the evidence.
Leuphana permits only one bachelor application and no first and second choice. For LLB Law, an incorrect programme choice cannot be rescued by asking the university to consider another major after the deadline.
Uni-assist checks document validity and the entrance qualification. Leuphana then runs its own restricted-course selection. The 5% quota for non-EU applicants with a foreign entrance qualification and any TestAS bonus are part of that second stage.
Admission doesn’t complete enrolment or immigration. Health insurance, the payable semester contribution, proof of funds and the visa or residence process follow on their own timetable.
Leuphana currently publishes 15 July as the recurring closing date. The dated 2027 round is not yet open, so confirm the cycle page before relying on it.
What can follow Leuphana LLB Law?
The curriculum supports the directions below, but Leuphana publishes no LLB Law placement rate, cohort salary or employment guarantee. The strongest evidence will come from the programme's assessed work, subject choices and thesis. Regulated occupations remain governed by separate qualification and recognition rules.
| Measure | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| German legal foundation | Legal, compliance or business support roles | Role requirements vary |
| Commercial and corporate law | Business-law direction | Minor and electives can add context |
| State-regulated legal practice | Not conferred by the LLB | Further state-exam route required |
| Programme placement rate | Not published | No salary or bar-admission rate |
These are curriculum-linked directions, not measured probabilities or promised jobs.
Leuphana presents employment after the LLB, master’s study and further movement towards the First State Examination as separate possibilities. The page should preserve that separation.
Commercial, corporate, compliance and policy-related roles may use the curriculum, but the university publishes no LLB-specific placement rate, salary table or verified employer list.
Recognition in India is not published by Leuphana. Anyone intending Indian legal practice needs a separate regulator decision; the German LLB title itself is not evidence of Indian bar eligibility.
Who is Leuphana LLB Law for, and who should avoid it?
This programme fits only when its actual language, academic sequence and professional limit match the applicant's plan. The table separates a clear fit from conditions and genuine no-fit cases. Funding also has to cover three years without depending on an unconfirmed job, scholarship or future exchange rate.
| Verdict | Your background | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strong fit | Applicant seeking German and EU legal foundations | The curriculum covers the central doctrinal fields. |
| Strong fit | Applicant planning legal-business or compliance work | Commercial, corporate and EU law support that direction. |
| Needs evidence | Applicant considering the German state-exam route | The LLB is only one stage of a longer plan. |
| Needs evidence | Applicant seeking international portability | Much of the curriculum is jurisdiction-specific. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant expecting an English-taught LLB | The degree is taught in German. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant expecting lawyer qualification after three years | The LLB alone does not confer Volljurist status. |
A sound choice isn’t based on the university name; it starts with the curriculum. Applicant seeking German and EU legal foundations has a reason to use the compulsory modules, while applicant expecting an english-taught llb faces a structural mismatch.
The financial plan uses current charges and living guidance. It needs room for housing deposits, later increases and currency movement because none of those is fixed for all six semesters.
Portability is also limited by content. German civil, public and criminal law are valuable for German and EU contexts, but they do not become Indian law through credential recognition.
The elective and minor choices can support commercial, labour, tax or policy directions. They cannot replace the regulated qualification required for reserved legal practice.
What does the Leuphana LLB Law curriculum contain?
The curriculum progresses through civil, criminal and public law before commercial, EU and procedural study, a legal seminar and the thesis. Leuphana's web page publishes semester positions but not individual credit values for every row. The full degree carries 180 ECTS, including minor and Complementary Studies work.

| Total | 180 |
- Full-time study over six semesters
- Degree total: 180 ECTS
- Current programme regulations control exact credits and substitutions
The alternatives in semesters five and six are real choices. Family and Inheritance Law can be replaced by Elective I, while Civil Procedure can be replaced by Elective II under the published structure.
Published elective examples include Labour Law, Tax Law, Criminal Procedure and Civil Procedure. They are options rather than a promise that every one runs in every cycle.
The sequence is jurisdiction-specific. Civil and public law content should be read as German legal education with EU elements, not as a comparative common-law LLB.
Should an Indian applicant shortlist Leuphana LLB Law?
Shortlist this LLB for strong German speakers who want a foundation in German and EU law, legal-business work or a planned continuation towards the state-examination route. Avoid it for an English LLB, direct admission to German regulated legal professions after three years, or assumed recognition by the Bar Council of India.
The degree covers the main German-law fields in a clear doctrinal sequence. Its limitation is professional status: judges, prosecutors and fully qualified practising lawyers in Germany follow the state-examination route and later stages. The LLB can be useful without that status, but the intended role must be named honestly.
The LLB alone does not confer German Volljurist status or qualify a graduate for judge, prosecutor or fully qualified lawyer roles.
Decision checks complete cost · entry rules · application route · qualification limit
- LLB Law is a full-time, six-semester degree carrying 180 ECTS.
- Leuphana's recurring October-intake application window closes on 15 July; the dated 2027 round is not yet announced, and non-EU applicants use uni-assist.
- The first-year planning total is about INR 13.86 lakh before visa, APS, flights and a housing deposit.
- The programme is admission-restricted and non-EU applicants with foreign entrance credentials compete within a 5% quota.
- The decisive academic condition is DSH-2, TestDaF 16 with each part at least 4, DSD II, Goethe C2 or an accepted route.
- The main drawback is the LLB does not by itself qualify a graduate as a German Volljurist.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Leuphana LLB Law cost for an Indian student?
There is no regular tuition. Using two EUR 484.24 semester contributions, twelve months at Leuphana's EUR 1,000 living estimate and one EUR 75 uni-assist fee gives about EUR 13,043.48 or INR 13.86 lakh for the first year, before visa, APS, flights and a deposit.
What is the deadline for Leuphana LLB Law?
Leuphana publishes a recurring mid-May to 15 July window for an October start. The dated 2027 round is not yet open, so 15 July 2027 is an expected planning date rather than an announced deadline. Leuphana recommends sending the complete uni-assist file six weeks early.
Is Leuphana LLB Law full time?
Yes. This page covers the full-time, on-campus route over six semesters and 180 ECTS.
What language is Leuphana LLB Law taught in?
The published programme language is German. The exact certificate route is explained in the entry section, and elective or school-placement language can create additional practical limits.
Does Leuphana LLB Law accept Indian applicants?
Yes, if the Indian credential establishes German university entrance eligibility and every programme, language and document condition is met. APS may apply, and selection remains competitive.
Can an applicant choose a second Leuphana bachelor programme?
No. Leuphana allows one College bachelor application and no first and second choice for the cycle.
Does Leuphana LLB Law guarantee a placement?
No programme-specific placement, salary or employer guarantee is published. Curriculum-linked career directions are possibilities, not promised outcomes.
What is the main risk in choosing Leuphana LLB Law?
