What is Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning?
Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning is a three-year, 180-ECTS German teacher-education degree with two subjects, repeated school placements and a first-year plan of about INR 13.86 lakh. The official programme page confirms the course structure. Choose it for German school teaching, because the BA isn’t a stand-alone teaching licence.
The sequence joins educational theory to work in schools. Education and Upbringing appears before two stages of School Practical Studies, while psychology, didactics, empirical research and heterogeneity develop the professional side. The two chosen subjects run alongside that work, so subject choice is part of the degree structure rather than a late specialisation.
The route differs by intended school level. A primary-school plan must include German or Mathematics, and General Studies is confined to that route. Biology, Chemistry and Politics belong only to the lower-secondary route. Those restrictions matter before application because Leuphana accepts only one bachelor application and the teacher-training application itself fixes the subject combination.
How much does Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning cost?
The first-year planning total is EUR 13,043.48, about INR 13.86 lakh. It combines two current semester contributions, twelve months at Leuphana’s EUR 1,000 living estimate and one EUR 75 uni-assist application. Regular tuition is zero. Visa, APS, flights, deposits and future increases remain outside the total.
| Item | INR | Local currency | When it is due |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular tuition | INR 0 | EUR 0 | Current public-university rule |
| Semester contributions for one year | INR 1.03 lakh | EUR 968.48 | Two terms at winter 2026/27 rate |
| Living plan for twelve months | INR 12.75 lakh | EUR 12,000 | EUR 1,000 each month |
| uni-assist application | INR 7,969 | EUR 75 | First application |
| First-year planning total | INR 13.86 lakh | EUR 13,043.48 | Before visa, APS, flights and deposit |
The blocked-account or other proof-of-funds amount is evidence that living money is available, not a second living-cost row. Converted at EUR 1 = INR 106.2490, the ECB reference rate on 22 October 2026. Bank rates differ.
“Blocked bank account (“Sperrkonto”) in Germany with sufficient funds to cover the first year of studies”German Missions in India, study visa funding rule
The German Missions in India funding rule supports the blocked-account requirement described here. The rupee conversions use the European Central Bank reference rate of EUR 1 = INR 106.2490 dated 22 October 2026.
Leuphana’s central fee page gives EUR 484.24 for winter 2026/27, superseding the roughly EUR 452.92 on older programme pages. The official uni-assist payment page gives EUR 75 for the first chosen course. The contribution stated in the eventual enrolment notice will control the amount actually payable.
The university’s EUR 1,000 monthly living estimate is a planning average. Published rent runs from EUR 320 to EUR 530, with an average shared-flat room around EUR 425, and Leuphana warns that housing is difficult to secure. A deposit and temporary accommodation can therefore raise arrival cash above this table.
Leuphana’s immigration page states EUR 992 per month as the current proof level and forecasts EUR 1,025 per month for winter 2027/28. The visa amount in force at application controls. It shouldn’t be added again to the living row because the same money is used for living expenses.
At current rates, three years would mean six semester contributions and 36 months of living, not three repetitions of the application fee. Future contribution, rent, insurance and food increases make any full-degree total an estimate rather than a published price.
Can an Indian applicant meet Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning entry rules?
The formal starting point is a recognised university entrance qualification, followed by German evidence under the programme's exact rule. Indian credentials go through uni-assist and may require APS. BA Teaching and Learning is admission-restricted, so a valid file enters selection rather than creating a right to a place.
| Requirement | Published rule | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| University entrance qualification (India) | A recognised school-leaving credential; Leuphana publishes no India-specific percentage | Submit complete Standard XII and any later study records |
| German for teacher education (India) | Programme-level German evidence under the teacher-training rule | Use the accepted certificate named by Leuphana |
| Teaching subjects (India) | Two permitted subjects matched to the intended school route | Check the subject-combination rules before filing |
| Subject aptitude (India) | Extra proof may apply to English, Music, Art or Physical Education | Complete the relevant aptitude or language evidence |
| APS (India) | Required for Indian credentials where applicable | Obtain APS early enough for uni-assist |
| Selection (India) | Admission-restricted; non-EU applicants compete in the 5% quota | Do not treat eligibility as an offer |
The entrance credential and language evidence answer different questions. Uni-assist checks whether the school record gives access to German higher education; Leuphana then applies the teacher-training, subject and selection rules.
An International Baccalaureate earned outside Germany does not remove the German requirement for this route. Subject-specific proof can remain due even after general language evidence is accepted.
No work experience, GRE or GMAT is published as an admission requirement. TestAS is optional for non-EU selection and can add up to ten points; it does not replace the school credential or subject evidence.

One Leuphana bachelor application
The choice is binding for this cycle.“You can only apply for one Bachelor’s programme.”Leuphana University Lüneburg
Eligibility is not an offer
Uni-assist confirmation means the file can enter selection. Leuphana states that it does not automatically mean a study place.
The programme language rule controls
German evidence must meet the exact rule for BA Teaching and Learning; a different Leuphana programme can have a different threshold.
How should an Indian applicant apply for Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning?
Leuphana publishes a recurring mid-May to 15 July application window for an October start, but it has not yet opened a dated 2027 round. Treat 15 July 2027 as a planning assumption, not an announced deadline. Non-EU applicants use uni-assist, and Leuphana recommends submitting the complete file six weeks early.
Non-EU applicants with foreign entrance credentials use uni-assist; Leuphana does not use a VPD for this application.
| Start by | Task | Days | Why this date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 03 Feb 2027 | Complete APS where applicable | 60 | Indian academic documents may need APS before uni-assist review. |
| 21 Feb 2027 | Check the exact programme and language rule | 21 | Match the entrance credential and German evidence to BA Teaching and Learning. |
| 14 Mar 2027 | Prepare the online-only file | 21 | School certificate, prior study if any, passport, translations and language evidence. |
| 04 Apr 2027 | Submit through uni-assist | 42 | Leuphana recommends six weeks before its recurring 15 July closing date. |
| 16 May 2027 | Complete admission, finance and enrolment tasks | 60 | The offer, health insurance, funding and immigration stages remain separate. |
The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by Leuphana University Lüneburg.
The non-EU application page requires an online-only uni-assist application. It names the school-leaving certificate, any prior degree or study record, APS where applicable, passport and certified translations among the evidence.
Leuphana permits only one bachelor application and no first and second choice. For BA Teaching and Learning, an incorrect programme choice cannot be rescued by asking the university to consider another major after the deadline.
Uni-assist checks document validity and the entrance qualification. Leuphana then runs its own restricted-course selection. The 5% quota for non-EU applicants with a foreign entrance qualification and any TestAS bonus are part of that second stage.
Admission doesn’t complete enrolment or immigration. Health insurance, the payable semester contribution, proof of funds and the visa or residence process follow on their own timetable.
Leuphana currently publishes 15 July as the recurring closing date. The dated 2027 round is not yet open, so confirm the cycle page before relying on it.
What can follow Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning?
The curriculum supports the directions below, but Leuphana publishes no BA Teaching and Learning placement rate, cohort salary or employment guarantee. The strongest evidence will come from the programme's assessed work, subject choices and thesis. Regulated occupations remain governed by separate qualification and recognition rules.
| Measure | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| School practice | Primary or lower-secondary teacher preparation | Requires the later MEd and state stages |
| Education and psychology | Education support or further study | Not a licensed-teacher outcome by itself |
| German teaching licence | Not conferred by the BA alone | Consecutive qualification required |
| Programme placement rate | Not published | No salary or appointment guarantee |
These are curriculum-linked directions, not measured probabilities or promised jobs.
The curriculum most directly supports progression into the matching Master of Education. School Practical Studies supplies observed and assessed classroom evidence, but it does not itself confer the German professional status needed for public-school teaching.
Educational research, media education and psychology can support broader education-related work. Leuphana does not publish a cohort placement rate, starting salary or named-employer list for this BA, so those directions cannot be presented as probabilities.
Recognition outside Germany depends on the receiving regulator. No primary source reviewed gives automatic Indian teacher-licensing recognition, and the page should not imply that a German BA converts directly into an Indian teaching credential.
Who is Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning for, and who should avoid it?
This programme fits only when its actual language, academic sequence and professional limit match the applicant's plan. The table separates a clear fit from conditions and genuine no-fit cases. Funding also has to cover three years without depending on an unconfirmed job, scholarship or future exchange rate.
| Verdict | Your background | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strong fit | Applicant committed to German school teaching | The curriculum and placements are built for that regulated route. |
| Strong fit | Applicant whose permitted subjects match the target school level | The subject combination remains central across six semesters. |
| Needs evidence | Applicant interested in education but undecided about licensure | The degree is less flexible than a general education BA. |
| Needs evidence | Applicant able to fund a later MEd | The BA is only the first professional stage. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant needing English-only study | The programme and school practice require German. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant expecting a teaching licence after the BA | The degree does not complete the German regulated route. |
A sound choice isn’t based on the university name; it starts with the curriculum. Applicant committed to German school teaching has a reason to use the compulsory modules, while applicant needing english-only study faces a structural mismatch.
The financial plan uses current charges and living guidance. It needs room for housing deposits, later increases and currency movement because none of those is fixed for all six semesters.
Subject choice changes the whole plan. German or Mathematics is compulsory for the primary route, while General Studies cannot be carried into the lower-secondary route. An applicant who wants Biology, Chemistry or Politics is choosing the lower-secondary route from the start.
The degree is academically broad but professionally narrow. It fits someone ready for German-language classrooms and regulated teacher education. It is a poor use of three years for someone seeking international-school mobility without checking the separate licence rules in the destination country.
What does the Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning curriculum contain?
The six-semester plan combines two teaching subjects with pedagogy, psychology, didactics and two stages of school practice. Leuphana publishes the position of each area but not a separate credit value beside every item on this web curriculum. The total degree is 180 ECTS, and the applicable subject rules determine the final module mix.

- Full-time study over six semesters
- Degree total: 180 ECTS
- Current programme regulations control exact credits and substitutions
The subject modules cannot be read independently of the school route. Primary education requires German or Mathematics; General Studies is primary-only. Biology, Chemistry and Politics are lower-secondary-only.
School practice is distributed rather than postponed to the final year. The sequence moves from School Practical Studies 1 into School Practical Studies 2 while pedagogy and psychology become more specialised.
The current examination schedule and subject appendices control exact titles, credits and substitutions if they differ from the overview page. No unpublished credit split has been added here.
Should an Indian applicant shortlist Leuphana BA Teaching and Learning?
Shortlist this BA only when the aim is teaching in Germany, the applicant can study in German and the permitted subject combination fits the intended school level. Avoid it for an English education degree or a qualification expected to confer a teaching licence after three years. A consecutive MEd and later state stages remain necessary.
Its strongest feature is the sustained link between pedagogy and school practice. Its hardest constraint is professional portability: the curriculum is designed around German schools and German teacher regulation. An Indian applicant should treat the BA, the later MEd and the state route as one long qualification decision, not three interchangeable options.
The BA alone is not the final German teaching qualification, and Leuphana publishes no automatic Indian recognition for it.
