What is the UC Bachelor of Commerce, and what should an Indian student decide first?
The UC Bachelor of Commerce is a 360-point, three-year business degree with 11 current majors. The first-year fee input uses NZD 39,590, approximately INR 22.50 lakh, per 120 points. For budgeting, the summary combines three tuition years, living costs, the UC allowance and the visa fee; later tuition is held flat only as an explicit assumption.
The degree combines a common foundation with at least one major and controlled space for a minor, second major or courses outside Commerce. This page plans for February 2027. The selected major and approved course plan remain decisive because professional alignment, advanced subjects and applied opportunities aren’t uniform across the umbrella award.
How much does the UC Bachelor of Commerce cost for an Indian student?
The three-year planning total is NZD 196,598, approximately INR 1.12 crore. It repeats UC’s 2027 tuition estimate for three 120-point years, uses 156 weeks of the UC homestay estimate, includes UC’s listed allowance once and adds the current minimum visa charge. It is a comparison model, not a fixed three-year quote.
Transparent three-year on-campus planning budget
| Item | INR | Local currency | When it is due |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuition held at the 2027 rate | INR 67.49 lakh | NZD 118,770 | Three assumed years at NZD 39,590 |
| UC homestay estimate for 156 weeks | INR 42.37 lakh | NZD 74,568 | NZD 478 across three full years |
| UC annual or one-off allowance | INR 1.37 lakh | NZD 2,410 | Included once for planning |
| Fee Paying Student Visa | INR 48,297 | NZD 850 | At the current minimum charge |
| Three-year planning total | INR 1.12 crore | NZD 196,598 | Before exclusions and later increases |
Immigration New Zealand's NZD 20,000 annual living-funds rule and outward-travel evidence are proof of available money, not extra University fees added to this table. Actual spending can differ from both the visa floor and UC's homestay estimate. Converted using NZD 1 = approximately INR 56.82 from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand B1 release dated 27 August 2026. The figures exclude bank spreads and transfer charges.
UC publishes NZD 39,590 per 120 BCom points for 2027. It is a one-year estimate, not the price of all 360 points. UC also says Student Services Levy and international student insurance are charged separately, while the final Enrolment Agreement confirms the amount due.
The tuition row makes one deliberate assumption. Year one uses the published 2027 figure, while years two and three repeat it only to make a comparable whole-programme plan. UC hasn’t fixed 2028 or 2029 tuition at this amount. Later fee schedules, enrolled points and repeated courses can change the actual invoices.
Tuition arithmetic is visible. NZD 39,590 multiplied by three gives NZD 118,770, approximately INR 67.49 lakh. The model must not be read as a fee guarantee because only the 2027 rate is published in the current BCom fee row.
Living uses UC’s NZD 478 weekly homestay estimate dated 15 July 2026. Multiplying it by 156 weeks gives NZD 74,568, approximately INR 42.37 lakh. The full-calendar basis avoids assuming that the student leaves Christchurch between teaching periods.
The homestay estimate combines accommodation, food and several routine categories. It isn’t a quote for a named room or contract. A university hall, flat, private rental or shorter agreement can create a different cost and payment pattern. Deposits and initial set-up costs remain excluded under the brief.
UC also lists NZD 2,410 in annual or one-off items for placement, books and stationery, parking and clothing. This model includes that allowance once. The choice is conservative about duplication, but it doesn’t claim one amount will cover all books, clothing, transport or major-specific materials for three years.
The Fee Paying Student Visa starts from NZD 850. Applicant-specific medicals, police certificates, translations, renewals and travel can add cost. Including one minimum fee doesn’t promise that one visa payment covers the entire degree in every case.
The full equation is NZD 39,590 multiplied by three assumed tuition years, plus NZD 478 multiplied by 156 living weeks, plus the NZD 2,410 allowance, plus the NZD 850 visa. The result is NZD 196,598 or approximately INR 111.71 lakh, presented as INR 1.12 crore.
Student Services Levy, international student insurance, flights, accommodation and tuition deposits, repeated or excess courses, professional-body charges, medicals, police certificates, bank fees and future changes are excluded. The final UC Enrolment Agreement remains the payment source.
The India High Achievers Scholarship lists NZD 5,000 towards first-year tuition for eligible new full-fee Indian undergraduates. It is competitive, so approximately INR 2.84 lakh hasn’t been subtracted. A family should reduce the budget only after receiving a written award.
Part-time employment is not an assured funding stream. Current student-visa conditions can permit work during study and eligible holidays, but class schedules, major workload and employer selection affect earnings. The visa’s work condition does not guarantee a job or a weekly income.
The approximate INR values use the Reserve Bank of New Zealand B1 exchange-rate series checked on 27 August 2026. The NZD amounts remain authoritative because card, bank and remittance rates can differ.
What does an Indian student need for the UC Bachelor of Commerce?
UC’s published India threshold is 75 percent overall for CBSE, CISCE and three named state boards, or 80 percent for other state boards. The relevant English mark is 60 or 65 percent. The BCom publishes no compulsory school subject, although accounting, economics, business studies and mathematics are useful preparation.
Requirements in checking order
| Requirement | Published rule | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE or CISCE (India) | 75% overall and 60% in English | Submit the complete Class XII certificate and marks |
| Maharashtra, Karnataka or West Bengal (India) | 75% overall and 60% in English | Use this row only for one of the three named boards |
| Other Indian state boards (India) | 80% overall and 65% in English | Apply the higher published board threshold |
| University Entrance equivalent (India) | Required for BCom admission | Upload the final school award and full mark sheet |
| School subjects (India) | No compulsory subject published | Match preparation to the intended major |
| IELTS Academic (India) | 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 | Keep every skill at 5.5 or higher |
| PTE Academic (India) | 50 overall with no communicative score below 42 | Meet the overall and component conditions |
| Cambridge English (India) | 169 overall with no skill below 162 | Submit an accepted current result |
| Duolingo English Test (India) | 105 overall with no band below 95 | Meet both total and subscore conditions |
| Major plan (India) | At least one approved 120-point major | Obtain the current degree plan before enrolment |
| July start (India) | Available, subject to course sequence | Request a complete six-semester map before payment |
| Professional recognition (India) | Major and course-plan specific | Confirm the pathway with the relevant professional body |
UC’s India equivalence table separates named national and state boards from other state boards. The board printed on the Class XII certificate decides which percentage row applies. A school name or teaching language cannot move an applicant into the lower threshold group.
The published BCom requirement is University Entrance or equivalent. UC states that anyone with entry can begin the degree from 100 level without previous Commerce study. It also says accounting, economics, business studies and mathematics, especially statistics, are useful preparation. This is advice about readiness, not a new compulsory subject rule.
The Class XII file should include the final certificate, full subject marks, board name and English mark. Provisional results may support an early assessment where UC permits them, but the final admission and enrolment file must follow the University’s evidence instructions. Translations should accompany documents not issued in English.
The standard undergraduate English requirement is IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5. Alternatives have their own overall and component thresholds. The applicable test version, test date and exemption rule should be confirmed before booking.
Meeting the admission percentage does not reserve a major course, internship or scholarship. It establishes the academic equivalence threshold for the application. Course prerequisites, timetable capacity, performance and selection processes operate after that decision and can still change what the student can take in a particular semester.
The major should be chosen before the statement of purpose and budget are final. Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Marketing and Operations and Supply Chain Management use different advanced courses and point towards different entry-level work. A generic plan can satisfy 360 points while still missing the subject sequence needed for the intended goal.
No SAT, ACT or separate admission interview appears as a standard BCom requirement in the reviewed qualification and India-entry sources. UC can request additional evidence for an individual file. The absence of a published standard test does not prevent academic verification or a request for clearer records.
Recognition in India or another country is external to UC admission. NZQA places a bachelor’s degree at Level 7 in New Zealand, while employers, universities and professional bodies can apply their own rules. No universal Indian equivalence or uniform professional-membership result was found for all BCom majors.
UC publishes one relevant rule in exact words.
“During your commerce degree, UC and its business partners provide many opportunities for you to gain practical business experience and make important contacts.”University of Canterbury, official Bachelor of Commerce page
The quoted line is read with the complete official page and the individual offer.
Four decisions that can block a weak BCom plan
The 75 percent row covers only five named systems
CBSE, CISCE, Maharashtra, Karnataka and West Bengal use the 75 percent overall and 60 percent English row. Every other Indian State Board uses 80 percent overall and 65 percent English under the published UC table.Open subject entry does not make every major equally easy
The BCom has no compulsory school subject, but Finance includes quantitative study and the common degree contains STAT101. Useful preparation and formal eligibility are different. The intended major should shape pre-arrival preparation even when it does not change the admission threshold. The accounting pathway is a course-plan decision
UC publishes professional-pathway degree plans for Accounting and Taxation and Accounting. School accreditation does not by itself establish individual membership eligibility. The receiving professional body and the current approved course set decide recognition.A July start needs more than an intake label
UC displays February and July starts, but each major has prerequisites and course occurrences. A July applicant needs a full approved plan that reaches 360 points and every advanced requirement without adding an avoidable semester.
How should an Indian student apply for the UC Bachelor of Commerce in 2027?
Apply through myUC for admission, then complete course approval, payment, the student visa and final enrolment. UC’s general international closing dates are 1 December 2026 for Semester One and 1 May 2027 for Semester Two. UC recommends starting at least 6 months before study begins.
Create a myUC account, select the Bachelor of Commerce and intake, upload passport and complete school records, provide English evidence, respond to requests, accept the Offer of Place, confirm the major and course plan, complete the payment and enrolment steps, and apply separately for the student visa.
This intake is short by 127 days. Only 96 days remain and the chain needs 223. Target the next intake instead of rushing an incomplete file.
| Start by | Task | Takes | Why this date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22 Apr 2026 | Complete English evidence | 60 days | Allow preparation, testing and official score delivery where a test is needed. |
| 31 May 2026 | Collect identity and school records | 21 days | Prepare the passport, final certificate, full marks and translations. |
| 07 Jun 2026 | Select a provisional major | 14 days | Use the current degree plan to test subject preparation and sequence. |
| 14 Jun 2026 | Confirm the Indian board row | 7 days | Match the printed board name with the 75 or 80 percent route. |
| 21 Jun 2026 | Submit the myUC application | 0 days | Send one complete academic and identity file before the general deadline. |
| 21 Jun 2026 | Receive and review the decision | 45 days | Allow an observed planning window and answer any request for evidence quickly. |
| 05 Aug 2026 | Approve the degree plan | 14 days | Confirm the major, first-year courses and July sequence where relevant. |
| 19 Aug 2026 | Accept and complete the payment step | 14 days | Use the Enrolment Agreement and preserve the tuition receipt. |
| 02 Sep 2026 | Apply for the student visa | 90 days | INZ recommends allowing three months before travel. |
The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by University of Canterbury.
The academic application starts in myUC. The applicant creates an account, selects the Bachelor of Commerce and intended intake, uploads passport and school evidence, and responds to any request for clarification. UC owns the admission decision, while an education agent or counsellor can only organise the file.
UC advises international students to apply at least 6 months before the intended start. This is an elapsed planning interval, not a separate closing date. Earlier preparation matters when English testing, final school results, funding and visa evidence depend on different institutions.
The general February 2027 deadline is 1 December 2026. The July 2027 deadline is 1 May 2027. A limited-entry course, scholarship or special pathway can use an earlier date. The applicant should follow the earliest binding date in the selected plan rather than assuming the general deadline protects every opportunity.
After an offer, the course plan deserves a fresh check. The current major plan should show the core courses, major prerequisites, advanced-point floors and any second major or minor. This is particularly important for July entry and accounting professional pathways.
The Enrolment Agreement confirms tuition and additional charges. Payment produces evidence used in the visa process. A scholarship application is separate unless its rules say otherwise, and a pending result should not delay admission or visa work beyond the relevant deadline.
The visa timeline should allow 3 months before travel. Immigration New Zealand recommends applying for the Fee Paying Student Visa early. The visa file can require an offer, tuition evidence, living funds, outward travel, insurance, health or character documents and proof that the study intention is genuine.
Final enrolment happens after admission, course approval, payment and the required immigration evidence. Flights should follow the University’s and Immigration New Zealand’s instructions rather than an assumed processing date. A submitted application, offer or fee receipt does not itself authorise travel or guarantee visa approval.
What jobs can follow the UC Bachelor of Commerce?
Career direction follows the major, course evidence and employer selection. UC names fields such as accounting, consulting, software development, marketing and entrepreneurship, but it publishes no current BCom-wide placement rate, median salary or guaranteed employer list. Internship opportunities are limited rather than automatic.
| Measure | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| BCom placement rate | Not published | No exact-programme cohort result found |
| BCom graduate salary | Not published | No exact-programme salary series found |
| Guaranteed internship | No | Places are limited and performance can matter |
| Employability output | BSNS299 | Zero-point UC Employability Portfolio |
| Current majors | 11 | Current UC BCom majors page |
| Qualification level | NZQF Level 7 | NZQA bachelor's-degree descriptor |
Career titles are curriculum directions, not programme-level outcome data. No exact BCom employment rate, salary series, employer conversion rate or guaranteed practical placement was found.
The common core supports business literacy across functions. ACCT102 develops financial-information understanding, ECON104 introduces microeconomic decisions, INFO123 covers business technology, MGMT100 covers management foundations and STAT101 develops statistical reasoning. These shared courses support cross-functional work, but the major creates the deeper evidence.
Accounting and Taxation and Accounting can support audit, tax, financial reporting and advisory directions. Professional practice requires a separate check against the current pathway and the receiving professional body’s education, examination and experience rules. A UC BCom offer alone cannot establish chartered status or Indian professional recognition.
Finance and Economics build different analytical profiles. Finance focuses on corporate finance, markets and investments, while Economics studies decisions, incentives and resource allocation. The Finance major page mentions an optional final-year internship, but that option cannot be generalised to every BCom student.
Information Systems can support business analysis, systems analysis, technology consulting and digitally enabled operations. The major is not a computer-science degree, and role requirements vary. A portfolio showing process analysis, systems thinking, data work and communication can explain the connection between business study and a technology-facing job.
Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Operations and Supply Chain Management point towards distinct functions. Course projects, competitions or applied options can strengthen a graduate’s evidence. None removes an employer’s selection process or guarantees a particular title after graduation.
BSNS299 gives formal recognition to employability development. It should be treated as a portfolio mechanism, not a paid placement. Because those optional experiences are capacity-controlled, they shouldn’t be treated as a standard BCom outcome. An applicant who needs compulsory work-integrated learning should compare the exact major plan with that requirement.
One exact UC BCom account concerned a second-year Chartered Accounting student who was actively seeking internship and networking advice. That is an anecdote about one person’s career planning, not evidence of programme-wide scarcity or success. No three-account pattern supports claims about workload, cohort, teaching or Christchurch life.
NZQA places a bachelor’s degree at Level 7. Current Post Study Work Visa rules can support an eligible graduate after qualifying full-time study in New Zealand, subject to the rules when they apply. A work visa is neither employment nor a residence outcome.
The evidence gap matters. UC’s career examples describe plausible fields, while a placement rate or salary series would describe measured outcomes. No BCom-wide measured series was found. Students should compare major curriculum, professional rules, personal projects and live job requirements instead of treating broad career names as promises.
How is UC ranked for Bachelor of Commerce subjects?
No reviewed primary source ranks the Bachelor of Commerce itself. UC reports broad 2026 subject bands for business, management, accounting and finance. These provide institutional context, not a measure of a student’s major, internship access, professional recognition, placement or salary.

| QS Accounting and Finance | Top 300 | 2026 |

Who is the UC Bachelor of Commerce for?
The strongest fit is a school leaver who wants a broad business foundation with one approved major, can choose that major deliberately and has room for a three-year international budget. The weakest fit is someone expecting one uniform career outcome, guaranteed paid work, fixed later-year tuition or automatic professional recognition from the BCom title.
Match your goal to the BCom structure
| Verdict | Your background | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strong fit | Class XII student exploring business functions | The common foundation introduces five business areas before advanced major study. |
| Strong fit | Student with a named Accounting or Finance goal | A current major plan can turn the goal into a specific course sequence. |
| Strong fit | Business and technology applicant | Information Systems connects organisational problems with technology study. |
| Needs evidence | Student planning a double major | The route is allowed, but overlap and 300-level counting rules constrain the plan. |
| Needs evidence | Student seeking a July start | UC lists July, while the full major sequence still needs written confirmation. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant needing guaranteed paid placement | Internship, exchange and study-tour places are limited and can depend on performance. |
| Do not shortlist | Family needing fixed three-year tuition | Only the 2027 annual estimate is published, and later-year fees can change. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant expecting automatic chartered recognition | Professional alignment depends on the exact course plan and receiving body. |
A broad-interest school leaver can use the common first-year courses to test accounting, economics, information systems and management while building statistics. The degree still requires a planned major. Delaying that decision too far can create prerequisite or timetable problems in the advanced years.
An accounting applicant should treat the professional-pathway plan as the real curriculum. The current majors page publishes separate Accounting and Taxation and Accounting professional-pathway plans. The relevant professional body must confirm whether the chosen courses meet its current education requirements.
A quantitatively inclined student may prefer Finance or Economics, while someone interested in business technology may prefer Information Systems. Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management, entrepreneurship and supply-chain routes rely on different combinations of analysis, communication and domain knowledge. One generic BCom career statement cannot choose among them.
The flexibility is controlled rather than unlimited. A broad plan still has to preserve the degree’s upper-level and Commerce credit balance. Major and minor overlap rules can make an apparently efficient double-major plan invalid without careful auditing.
The degree is a poor fit when the family budget works only if the 2027 tuition rate stays unchanged. The model repeats that rate for comparison, but UC can publish higher later-year fees. A funding buffer, the final Enrolment Agreement and annual rechecking are part of a realistic plan.
The experience evidence cannot settle fit. One exact BCom account and one non-confirmed BCom PACE response do not create a pattern. Workload, teaching, class size, cohort and Christchurch life therefore remain unknown at programme level, and a major-specific conversation with UC is more useful than generic reassurance.
What does the 360-point UC Bachelor of Commerce curriculum contain?
The BCom requires at least 255 Commerce points, up to 105 points from Commerce or other degrees, seven common courses and one major of at least 120 points. Advanced-level and overlap rules stop the flexible structure from becoming an unrestricted collection of electives.
Degree-wide point structure
| Code | Component | Points | Where it sits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commerce | Commerce courses including the common core and major | 255 | Minimum across the degree |
| Flexible | Commerce or courses from other degrees | 105 | Maximum outside the Commerce minimum |
| BSNS299 | UC Employability Portfolio | 0 | Compulsory zero-point course |
| Total | 360 |
- Complete ACCT102, ECON104, INFO123, MGMT100 and STAT101
- Complete BSNS201 Business and Culture and BSNS299 UC Employability Portfolio
- Complete at least one 120-point major with at least 60 points at 300 level
- Complete at least 225 points above 100 level and 90 points at 300 level
- Use an optional minor only when it reaches 75 points with 45 above 100 level
- Count a 300-level course towards only one major or minor
- Count a 200-level course towards up to two majors, but not a major and minor or two minors
- Confirm prerequisites, occurrence and the full July sequence before enrolment
The five common 100-level courses create a shared business base. ACCT102 covers accounting and financial information, ECON104 introduces microeconomics, INFO123 covers business information systems and technology, MGMT100 develops management foundations, and STAT101 introduces statistics. Some can be completed later when the approved major plan requires a different first-year sequence.
BSNS201 adds Business and Culture beyond the first year. BSNS299 is the zero-point UC Employability Portfolio. Its compulsory status means every student completes an employability-development element, but zero points and the portfolio title do not make it an internship, paid work placement or employer assessment.
At least 255 of the 360 points must come from Commerce courses. The remaining 105 points can come from Commerce or other degrees. This allows breadth, a minor or support for a second major, but the student’s final selection must still satisfy every level, major and overlap rule in the current BCom structure.
The level floors shape progression. At least 225 points must sit above 100 level, and at least 90 points must sit at 300 level. A plan filled with introductory electives will not graduate even if its arithmetic reaches 360. Major prerequisites also determine when advanced courses become available.
Every major has at least 120 points, including at least 60 points at 300 level. Accounting and Taxation and Accounting each publish standard and professional-pathway plans. Economics, Finance and Information Systems specify their own second-year and third-year sequences. The current degree plan, not the broad title, is the enrolment map.
Human Resource Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, International Business, Management, Marketing, and Operations and Supply Chain Management complete the current 11-major set. A separate international page says 12 majors while displaying 11. The current dated majors page is used here.
A minor requires at least 75 points in one subject, with at least 45 points above 100 level. UC allows minors from Commerce and several other degrees. The available room depends on the major, prerequisites and any overlapping courses, so the maximum 105-point flexible block cannot be assigned without a degree audit.
A double major is possible, but course counting is controlled. A 300-level course can count towards only one major or minor. A 200-level course can count towards up to two majors in the same degree, but it cannot count towards a major and a minor or towards two minors. The Dean may approve a substitute in specified overlap situations.
Applied opportunities sit beside the regulated structure. Optional mobility and work-integrated choices remain capacity-controlled and can carry academic conditions. Business challenges and the Trading Room add other forms of practice. None should replace a required course or be presented as guaranteed until approved.
Accounting applicants need the professional-pathway version where recognition is the aim. Finance applicants should plan quantitative prerequisites. Information Systems applicants should preserve room for its named INFO sequence. The same principle applies across all majors because later courses depend on earlier choices and semester occurrence.
A February start is the clearer planning basis for this page. UC also publishes July entry. A July student should obtain a six-semester plan showing when the common courses and every major prerequisite run. The intake label alone does not prove completion within exactly three calendar years for every possible combination.
The BCom structure permits personalisation, but it rewards early decisions. A student who changes major late may lose overlap, need different prerequisites or extend the degree. The safest plan identifies a primary major, a fallback major and any professional requirement before the first course selection is final.
Should an Indian student shortlist the UC Bachelor of Commerce?
Shortlist it if you want a flexible business foundation and can name the major that supports your target. The current UC structure allows one major, a major with a minor, or a double major, but every combination must still meet the degree’s level and overlap rules.
The common courses make the degree broader than a single-subject qualification. Accounting, microeconomics, information systems, management and statistics sit beside Business and Culture and the UC Employability Portfolio. The major then supplies the deeper subject sequence, while up to 105 points can come from Commerce or another degree.
Three things are genuinely hard here. First, the transparent three-year plan already reaches approximately INR 1.12 crore before excluded charges and later fee increases. Second, don’t make an internship or exchange central to the decision because access is selective. Third, accounting recognition, career direction and July sequencing depend on the chosen major rather than the BCom title alone.
Before deciding, compare three-year cost, Indian entry, application timing and major structure.
- The UC Bachelor of Commerce is a 360-point degree designed for three years of full-time study in Christchurch.
- UC publishes NZD 39,590 per 120 points for 2027, not a fixed fee for all three years.
- The three-year plan is NZD 196,598 or approximately INR 1.12 crore and holds the 2027 tuition rate flat only as a planning assumption.
- Indian entry is 75 percent overall for CBSE, CISCE and three named state boards, or 80 percent for other state boards.
- The current BCom page lists five common 100-level courses, BSNS201 and the zero-point BSNS299 employability portfolio.
- The current majors page lists 11 majors, and every major requires at least 120 points with 60 points at 300 level.
- Internships, exchanges and study tours have limited places and can depend on academic performance.
- No BCom-wide placement rate, median graduate salary or three-account exact-programme experience pattern was found.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the UC Bachelor of Commerce for Indian students?
The three-year planning total is NZD 196,598, approximately INR 1.12 crore. It assumes the published 2027 tuition of NZD 39,590 repeats for all three 120-point years, adds 156 weeks of UC homestay costs, the listed allowance once and the minimum visa charge. Later-year fees can change.
What Class XII marks are needed for the UC BCom?
CBSE, CISCE, Maharashtra, Karnataka and West Bengal applicants need 75 percent overall and 60 percent in English. Applicants from other Indian State Boards need 80 percent overall and 65 percent in English. UC assesses the complete final school award, and meeting the threshold does not guarantee a scholarship or internship.
Is mathematics compulsory for the UC Bachelor of Commerce?
UC publishes no compulsory school subject for BCom admission. It says accounting, economics, business studies and mathematics, especially statistics, are useful preparation. The degree includes STAT101, and quantitative majors can require further mathematics. Applicants should match their Class XII subjects with the current plan for the intended major.
What IELTS score is required for the UC BCom?
The standard undergraduate requirement is IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5. UC also lists accepted alternatives with separate overall and component thresholds. The applicant should use the current English-requirements page to confirm the test version, score validity and whether existing school English evidence qualifies for an exemption.
How many majors does the UC Bachelor of Commerce have?
The current dated UC majors page lists 11 majors. They include Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Marketing and Operations and Supply Chain Management. Every major is at least 120 points with at least 60 points at 300 level. Course requirements and professional alignment differ, so use the selected major's degree plan.
Does the UC Bachelor of Commerce guarantee an internship?
No. UC says BCom students may access internships, exchanges and overseas study tours, but places are limited and can depend on academic performance. BSNS299 is a compulsory zero-point employability portfolio, not proof of a paid placement. No programme-wide internship rate, employer list or conversion-to-job result was published.
When is the UC BCom deadline for 2027?
The general international deadline is 1 December 2026 for Semester One 2027 and 1 May 2027 for Semester Two 2027. UC recommends applying at least six months before study. Scholarship, limited-entry course or special-pathway dates can be earlier, so the earliest relevant deadline should control the plan.
Can the UC BCom lead to a New Zealand post-study work visa?
A completed Level 7 bachelor's degree can support a Post Study Work Visa under current rules when the qualification, full-time New Zealand study, location and application timing satisfy Immigration New Zealand's conditions. The visa can be granted for up to three years, but it does not guarantee employment, professional registration or residence.
