What is the UC Master of Marketing, and what should you check first?

The UC Master of Marketing is a 180-point conversion master’s introduced in 2025. It runs for 18 months full-time with February and July starts. The 2027 Special Programme Fee is NZD 59,400 for the whole qualification, and this Christchurch plan totals NZD 99,944 or approximately INR 56.79 lakh.

The programme combines marketing foundations, analytics, consumer insight, digital marketing and an applied final project. It can be completed online or through Christchurch-based campus and online occurrences, but this page budgets 78 weeks in Christchurch. The first checks are UC’s Indian institution band, the delivery route, and whether the 30-point or 45-point project shapes the remaining credit.

How much does the UC Master of Marketing cost for an Indian student?

The transparent 18-month Christchurch plan is NZD 99,944, approximately INR 56.79 lakh. It combines the whole-qualification 2027 Special Programme Fee, 78 weeks of UC’s homestay estimate, UC’s listed allowance once and the current minimum student visa charge. Student Services Levy, insurance, flights, deposits and later changes remain extra.

Full-programme planning totalINR 56.79 lakhNZD 99,944Before variable exclusions

Immigration New Zealand's living-funds requirement and outward-travel evidence are financial proof, not extra spending added to this table. The visa file must still satisfy the current rules. Converted using NZD 1 = approximately INR 56.82 from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand B1 release dated 27 August 2026. The INR figures exclude bank spreads and transfer charges.

UC lists a 2027 Special Programme Fee of NZD 59,400 for the complete 180-point Master of Marketing. It is a whole-qualification amount, not an annual fee. Multiplying it by 18 months or three semesters would overstate the published tuition basis.

The Special Programme Fee excludes Student Services Levy and international student insurance. UC can also charge repeated courses and excess study separately. This page names those exclusions without inserting unstable estimates, and the final Enrolment Agreement remains the applicant’s controlling invoice.

The living basis is UC’s NZD 478 weekly homestay estimate dated 15 July 2026. Eighteen months are represented as 78 weeks, matching 1.5 years at 52 weeks per year. NZD 478 multiplied by 78 gives a living subtotal of NZD 37,284.

UC’s homestay model covers accommodation, food, mobile phone, transport, contents and liability insurance, and incidentals. It is a planning basket rather than a quotation for one host or meal plan. Written programme dates and an actual accommodation agreement can change the number of paid weeks.

The NZD 2,410 allowance combines UC’s listed annual or one-off items, including the homestay placement fee, books and stationery, parking and clothing. It is included once for the 18-month plan. Personal transport and study-material choices can make actual spending higher or lower.

The Fee Paying Student Visa currently costs from NZD 850. Immigration New Zealand separately requires applicable evidence for tuition, living funds, outward travel, genuine intent, insurance, health and character. Flights, medical examinations and police certificates are outside this fixed table.

The arithmetic remains visible. NZD 59,400 tuition + NZD 478 multiplied by 78 weeks + NZD 2,410 allowance + NZD 850 visa = NZD 99,944. At the RBNZ planning conversion, the result is INR 5,678,818.08, rounded to approximately INR 56.79 lakh.

The India High Achievers Scholarship publishes a competitive NZD 10,000 award towards first-year tuition for eligible Indian postgraduate students. UC Business School also lists an NZD 8,000 Dean’s Award for eligible international taught-master’s applicants. Neither reduces this baseline because selection and stacking are unresolved.

Part-time earnings are excluded. A student visa can permit up to 25 hours of work weekly and full-time work in scheduled holidays when the conditions allow it. Course demands, job availability and roster hours remain uncertain, so wages aren’t used to make the funding target look lower.

The full total is specifically an on-campus Christchurch comparison. A wholly online student outside New Zealand wouldn’t use homestay or a Fee Paying Student Visa in the same way, so that route requires a separate cost model. The INR conversion can also move with bank spreads, rate changes and transfer charges.

The approximate INR values use the Reserve Bank of New Zealand B1 exchange-rate series checked on 27 August 2026. The NZD amounts remain authoritative because card, bank and remittance rates can differ.

Can an Indian applicant meet UC Master of Marketing entry rules?

Direct entry requires a bachelor’s degree, at least a B-minus equivalent in advanced study and Executive Dean approval. UC’s programme-specific India guide publishes institution bands from 50 percent or GPA 5.5 to 65 percent or GPA 7.0. Prior marketing study is not required.

The India guide gives four MMktg thresholds. It defines the elite group but not Sections 1 to 3 on the page, so an applicant can’t safely select a favourable band based on reputation. UC’s institution classification and full assessment settle the applicable standard.

Indian transcripts don’t label courses as New Zealand 300-level study. The full transcript and grading scale allow UC to identify the advanced part of the bachelor’s degree. Final-year subject names, credits and marks can support that review, but an applicant’s own mapping can’t create Academic Equivalent Standing.

Where an institution awards GPA out of 10, UC’s published illustration supports a rough self-check. Indicative percentage = (GPA minus 0.5) multiplied by 10. A GPA of 6.5 maps to an indicative 60 percent. The formula doesn’t decide the institution band or guarantee admission.

The conversion design welcomes earlier degrees outside Marketing. That makes the course useful for a career change, but it does not make previous preparation irrelevant. Quantitative comfort supports MKTG632 and MKTG644, while writing, research and commercial reasoning matter across strategy, content, consumer insight and project work.

The current rule states the academic floor.

qualified for an Aotearoa New Zealand university degree with at least a B- Grade Point Average in 300-level courses or equivalent

University of Canterbury, current Master of Marketing regulations Executive Dean approval remains a separate requirement.

UC’s Postgraduate English Level 1 includes IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no skill below 6.0. PTE Academic, Cambridge, Duolingo and TOEFL routes carry separate overall, component and date conditions. English-medium Indian study is not presented as an automatic waiver.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Digital Marketing is an explicit alternative entry basis when its requirements are complete. It is not a generic certificate pathway from another provider. Applicants using a bachelor’s degree follow the degree and B-minus-equivalent route unless UC issues a different decision.

Prior-study exemptions do not automatically shrink the award. The regulation requires approved replacement postgraduate courses. A marketing graduate who sees overlap should obtain the replacement plan, course availability, duration and fee consequences in writing before treating the conversion curriculum as personalised.

Five checks that decide an Indian Marketing application

  1. UC assigns the institution band

The India guide contains four different cut-offs. UC’s classification of the institution controls which number applies.
  2. Conversion does not mean automatic entry

A prior marketing degree is unnecessary, while the B-minus equivalent and Executive Dean approval remain mandatory.
  3. Analytics preparation still matters

The degree teaches marketing analytics, but quantitative readiness helps with customer data, digital performance and research decisions.
  4. Delivery route changes the visa plan

Online study outside New Zealand should not be assumed to satisfy the later in-country post-study work condition.
  5. Prior study needs approved replacements

A scheduled-course exemption is followed by approved postgraduate study and does not automatically reduce the 180 points.

How should an Indian applicant plan the UC Marketing application?

The Christchurch route uses myUC, followed by academic and Dean assessment, an Offer of Place, fee payment and a separate visa application. UC lists 1 December 2026 for Semester One 2027, recommends overseas applicants allow at least 6 months, and closes the India scholarship earlier on 24 October 2026.

For the Christchurch plan, create a myUC account, select the campus or distance Master of Marketing route, enter identity and education details, upload academic and English evidence, respond to faculty requests, accept the Offer of Place, follow UC's payment instructions and apply separately for the student visa.

The longest dependent task chain needs 73 days. Tasks without dependencies can run in parallel. From 27 August 2026 there are 96 days to the official deadline, leaving 23 days of buffer.

The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by University of Canterbury.

The degree starts in February and July. UC’s general international dates close Semester One 2027 applications on 1 December 2026 and Semester Two on 1 May 2027. The overseas guidance says to allow at least 6 months before study, giving time for institution-band assessment and document queries.

The delivery choice precedes application. UC directs campus or distance applicants to myUC and the exclusive online version to Tuihono UC. This page models the Christchurch route because it includes 78 weeks of homestay and a student visa. An online applicant outside New Zealand needs a different budget and visa analysis.

The overseas admission guidance identifies transcripts, completion certificates, the grading scale and certified English translations where necessary. Passport and accepted English evidence complete the main myUC file, while UC may request further material for Academic Equivalent Standing.

The final project also deserves early academic discussion. The project choice changes how many approved points remain and whether Programme Director approval is needed. A written 180-point course plan should identify the project, remaining approved course or courses, delivery mode and 2027 occurrence.

The India High Achievers Scholarship closes on 24 October 2026 for Semester One 2027. It is competitive and separate from admission. UC Business School’s Dean’s Award has its own eligibility decision, and the checked primary pages do not establish that both awards can be combined.

After an offer, UC’s payment record supports the immigration file. The student visa guidance recommends applying three months before travel. Processing evidence and timings can change, so the visa schedule needs a current check when the Offer of Place arrives.

Delivery and project choices change the planThe application channel, living budget, later visa position and remaining courses depend on the selected delivery and project routes.

What jobs can follow the UC Master of Marketing?

The curriculum can support campaign, content, social media, search, consumer research, digital analytics, brand coordination and early marketing-strategy pathways. The current UC page publishes no MMktg placement rate or graduate salary, and the degree does not guarantee an internship, client allocation or New Zealand job.

Post-study work routeUp to 3 yearsConditional in-country study

Tahatu covers an occupation across experience levels. Its range is not a UC graduate salary, starting-pay promise or placement result.

The course-to-role connection is most direct in digital work. MKTG641 supports digital strategy, MKTG642 content and social media, MKTG643 search, and MKTG644 digital marketing analytics. MKTG631, MKTG634 and the final project add broader decision, consumer and research capability.

Marketing Analytics and Digital Marketing Analytics support analysis of customer, market and campaign data. They do not turn the degree into a data-science award. Students seeking advanced statistics, machine learning, database engineering or programming should compare a specialist analytics programme rather than infer those outcomes from two course titles.

New Zealand’s official Tahatū Marketing Specialist profile lists NZD 66,000 to NZD 135,000 as the most common occupation-wide pay range. Tahatū also says experience is usually needed and a qualification may be useful. Neither statement predicts a new UC graduate’s starting pay.

MKTG671 is an applied marketing research project in which students conduct, report and present their own work. The public course description does not make it an external placement. MKTG681 develops applied business analysis and insight, but Programme Director approval applies and no current source guarantees a named client.

UC Business School holds school-level accreditations such as AACSB and EQUIS. Those broad accreditations are not a Master of Marketing professional licence, marketing registration or promise of recognition by an Indian employer. No programme-specific professional accreditation was identified in the primary sources reviewed.

Because the programme began in 2025, long-run exact-programme outcomes are not yet available in the checked sources. UC publishes no completion rate, cohort salary, career-switching rate, named graduate-employer list or project-to-job conversion. Generic marketing roles should therefore remain possibilities rather than measured outcomes.

One exact-programme student described practical business cases and a separately secured internship. Another joined UC’s optional unpaid Global Impact Industry Project. These examples show that applied activity can occur, but fewer than three substantive accounts support any shared observation and neither example proves a built-in internship.

A Level 9 master’s studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 30 weeks can currently support a Post Study Work Visa application. Immigration New Zealand can grant up to three years when all conditions are met. An online route completed abroad needs a separate immigration check before anyone assumes post-study work eligibility.

How is UC ranked around Marketing?

UC reports Business and Management Studies in the QS 2026 global top 350. This is a broad subject result, not a rank for the Master of Marketing or Digital Marketing major, and it does not establish project quality, placement or salary.

Who is the UC Master of Marketing for?

The strongest fit is a graduate changing into data-informed digital marketing who values a prescribed foundation and applied project. The weakest fit is someone seeking deep data science, multiple current majors, a guaranteed internship or a wholly campus-based timetable. That mismatch changes the value case.

Match your background to the published programme

VerdictYour backgroundWhy
Strong fitNon-marketing graduate making a career changeThe conversion foundations cover general marketing, customers, analytics and digital decisions before advanced major study.
Strong fitCommunications or design graduate adding commercial depthStrategy, consumer insight, search and analytics can extend creative work into measurable marketing decisions.
Needs evidenceCommerce graduate with introductory marketingThe digital major and project can add depth, while foundational overlap needs comparison.
Needs evidenceApplicant planning online flexibilityUC permits online study, but delivery mode changes the budget, timetable and later in-country visa position.
Do not shortlistApplicant seeking advanced data scienceMarketing analytics is contextual and does not replace statistics, computing or data-engineering depth.
Do not shortlistApplicant whose plan requires an internshipBoth final routes are projects and neither publishes a guaranteed work placement.

A useful conversion rationale starts with the customer or market problem the applicant wants to solve. An engineer may bring product knowledge, a designer may bring communication, and a commerce graduate may bring commercial context. The degree then adds a defined marketing language, digital channels and project evidence.

Analytics fit requires careful calibration. MKTG632 and MKTG644 support customer, market and digital-performance decisions. They are valuable for campaign measurement and insight, while an applicant interested in predictive modelling, machine learning or data platforms needs a more technical comparison.

A student who already studied advanced marketing should compare course overlap. The regulation allows exemptions followed by approved replacement postgraduate courses, not an automatic reduction in points. Value depends on the replacement plan, project route and whether the Digital Marketing major adds enough new capability.

Delivery flexibility creates a tradeoff. Online study can support location and work needs, while the Christchurch plan offers in-country study and carries living and visa costs. UC also says the campus route can mix in-person and online occurrences, so campus enrolment should not be interpreted as every class meeting physically.

What does the 180-point UC Master of Marketing curriculum contain?

The current regulation requires four 15-point foundations, four 15-point Digital Marketing major courses, one project route and enough approved credit to reach 180 points. MKTG671 leaves 30 approved points, while MKTG681 leaves 15 and requires Programme Director approval. This difference affects route planning.

  • Obtain Programme Director approval for MKTG681
  • Meet prerequisites, delivery-mode and 2027 occurrence conditions
  • Do not treat either project as a guaranteed internship or thesis

The fixed foundation totals 60 points. MKTG631 covers marketing planning and decisions, MKTG632 brings customer and market analysis, MKTG634 develops consumer insight, and MKTG640 connects the foundation to digital channels. Together they make the award accessible to graduates without prior Marketing study.

The only current major is Digital Marketing, worth another 60 points. Strategy, content and social media, search and analytics form a coherent sequence. The public page says further majors may appear over time, but only the Digital Marketing major is present in the current regulation and therefore on this page.

The 30-point MKTG671 route is applied marketing research. The named foundations and major plus this project total 150 points, so another 30 approved points are required. The regulation permits relevant 600-level business study or other approved 400 or 600-level courses, subject to the Head of Department.

The 45-point MKTG681 consultancy route raises the prescribed total to 165 points and leaves 15 approved points. Programme Director approval is a stated prerequisite. The course title signals consultancy-style analysis, but the checked official description does not publish a client guarantee, allocation method or paid-work arrangement.

Neither project is an internship. MKTG671 asks the student to conduct, report and present applied marketing research. MKTG681 applies business analysis and insight. A real organisation may be relevant to some activity, but no current source says every student receives an employer-sponsored brief or employment placement.

Marketing analytics appears twice for a reason. MKTG632 builds general analysis of customer and market information, while MKTG644 focuses on digital marketing performance. The intended outcome is evidence-based marketing judgement, not the mathematical and computing depth of a specialist data-science master’s.

Course delivery needs checking at occurrence level. The 2026 regulation shows several campus and UC Online occurrences and places MKTG634 in Schedule C even though the displayed Schedule V table omits its course-detail row. The compulsory rule controls its inclusion, while UC must provide the 2027 occurrence.

A regulated option does not guarantee timetable fit. The applicant-specific course plan should name all 180 points, the project approval position, the campus-online mixture and any approved remaining courses. This prevents a 150-point or 165-point list from being mistaken for a complete degree.

Should an Indian applicant shortlist the UC Master of Marketing?

Shortlist it if you want a conversion route into marketing that combines strategy, customer insight, digital channels and applied projects. It is a weaker fit if you need a guaranteed internship, deep data-science training, several majors or proven employment outcomes from a programme introduced in 2025.

The current Digital Marketing major is coherent: strategy, content and social media, search, and digital marketing analytics. Four compulsory foundations add general marketing, marketing analytics, consumer insights and digital marketing. The course blend supports data-informed marketing decisions, while the scope remains marketing rather than statistical modelling, data engineering or software development.

Four drawbacks materially narrow the promise. The available major list is narrower than the public page suggests: only Digital Marketing appears in the current regulation. Neither final project is a guaranteed internship. MKTG681 needs Programme Director approval and no named-client allocation is published. UC provides no MMktg placement rate, cohort salary or programme rank.

Before deciding, compare full cost, Indian marks band, analytics scope and project route.

Key takeaways
  • The UC Master of Marketing is a 180-point conversion master's completed in 18 months full-time, with February and July starts.
  • The 2027 Special Programme Fee is NZD 59,400 for the whole qualification and must not be multiplied by semesters or duration.
  • The 78-week Christchurch plan totals NZD 99,944 or approximately INR 56.79 lakh before Student Services Levy, insurance, flights, deposits and changes.
  • UC's Indian entry guidance ranges from 50 percent or GPA 5.5 to 65 percent or GPA 7.0, depending on UC's institution band.
  • Digital Marketing is the only major in the current regulation, combining strategy, content, search and analytics.
  • MKTG671 leaves 30 approved points, while MKTG681 leaves 15 and needs Programme Director approval; neither is a guaranteed internship.
  • Online delivery changes the cost and post-study work analysis because the current visa route requires qualifying full-time study in New Zealand.

Frequently asked questions

What is the total UC Master of Marketing cost for an Indian student?

The 18-month Christchurch plan is NZD 99,944, approximately INR 56.79 lakh. It includes the NZD 59,400 whole-qualification fee, 78 weeks of UC's NZD 478 homestay estimate, its NZD 2,410 allowance once and the visa from NZD 850. Student Services Levy, insurance, flights, deposits and changes remain extra.

What marks does an Indian applicant need for UC Marketing?

UC's India guide lists 50 percent or GPA 5.5 for elite institutions, rising to 65 percent or GPA 7.0 for Section 3. Sections 1 and 2 sit between them. UC assigns the institution band, assesses advanced study and requires Executive Dean approval, so the listed figure is not an admission guarantee.

Can a non-marketing graduate apply for the UC Master of Marketing?

Yes. UC describes the degree as a conversion route and does not require an earlier Marketing qualification. Direct entry still needs a bachelor's degree, the B-minus equivalent under the correct Indian institution band and Executive Dean approval. The applicant's statement should connect the earlier field with a realistic marketing direction.

How much marketing analytics is in the UC degree?

MKTG632 covers Marketing Analytics and MKTG644 covers Digital Marketing Analytics. Consumer insights, strategy, content, social media and search surround those courses. The degree supports data-informed marketing decisions, but it is not a data-science, statistics or computing master's built around advanced modelling, programming or data engineering.

Does the UC Master of Marketing include an internship?

No guaranteed internship appears in the current structure. MKTG671 is a 30-point applied marketing research project, while MKTG681 is a 45-point consultancy project requiring Programme Director approval. Neither official description guarantees an employer placement, named client or paid work, and individual student internships do not create a programme promise.

What is the difference between MKTG671 and MKTG681?

MKTG671 is a 30-point applied marketing project and leaves 30 approved points to reach 180. MKTG681 is a 45-point consultancy project, requires Programme Director approval and leaves 15 approved points. Both are applied routes, but neither is published as a thesis or guaranteed internship with a named organisation.

Can the UC Master of Marketing be studied online?

Yes. UC says the degree can be completed exclusively online or in Christchurch through a mixture of campus and online occurrences. The application channel and budget differ. Online study outside New Zealand should not be assumed to meet Immigration New Zealand's in-country study condition for a later Post Study Work Visa.

When is the 2027 UC Master of Marketing deadline?

UC lists 1 December 2026 for Semester One 2027 international applications and 1 May 2027 for Semester Two. The degree starts in February and July. UC recommends allowing at least six months for an overseas application, while the India High Achievers Scholarship has an earlier closing date.
