What is the UC Master of Applied Data Science, and what should you check first?
The UC Master of Applied Data Science is a 180-point conversion master’s for graduates with relevant advanced study, not only computing or statistics majors. Its 2027 Special Programme Fee is NZD 59,400 for the whole qualification. The 78-week plan totals NZD 99,944, approximately INR 56.79 lakh, with current living and visa inputs.
Coursework builds from foundations to advanced practice before the final applied project. This page plans for the February 2027 on-campus intake. UC has published the 1 December 2026 international closing date, but your approved course sequence, project route, Student Services Levy, insurance and final Enrolment Agreement still need individual confirmation.
How much does the UC Master of Applied Data Science cost for an Indian student?
A transparent 18-month planning total is NZD 99,944, approximately INR 56.79 lakh. It includes the full 2027 Special Programme Fee, 78 weeks of UC’s homestay estimate, UC’s annual or one-off allowance once and the current minimum student visa fee. It is not a one-year total.
Full 18-month planning budget
| Item | INR | Local currency | When it is due |
|---|---|---|---|
| UC Special Programme Fee for 180 points in 2027 | INR 33.75 lakh | NZD 59,400 | Under the Enrolment Agreement |
| UC homestay estimate for 78 weeks | INR 21.18 lakh | NZD 37,284 | Across the 18-month plan |
| UC annual or one-off allowance | INR 1.37 lakh | NZD 2,410 | Included once for planning |
| Fee Paying Student Visa | INR 48,297 | NZD 850 | At the current minimum charge |
| Full-programme planning total | INR 56.79 lakh | NZD 99,944 | Before variable exclusions |
UC's homestay figure is one planning arrangement, not a housing quote or the Immigration New Zealand funds test. The visa fee is an application charge, while tuition, living funds, insurance and outward travel evidence are separate. Converted using NZD 1 = approximately INR 56.82 from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand B1 release dated 27 August 2026. Student Services Levy, international insurance, flights, deposits, rate changes, bank spreads, transfer charges and later changes are excluded.
UC publishes a 2027 Special Programme Fee of NZD 59,400 for all 180 points. This is already the full qualification fee, so it shouldn’t be multiplied by the 1.5-year planning duration. The Enrolment Agreement remains the final invoice and can add charges that the estimate excludes.
The duration needs a deliberate assumption. UC publishes a full-time range of one to one-and-a-half years but doesn’t publish a fixed one-year on-campus sequence that every new student can rely on. This plan therefore uses 18 months, or 78 weeks. A student who receives a confirmed 12-month course plan can replace the living line with 52 weeks before paying.
UC’s homestay estimate dated 15 July 2026 is NZD 478 a week. It includes homestay accommodation, mobile phone, food, transport, contents and liability insurance, and incidentals. NZD 478 multiplied by 78 weeks gives NZD 37,284. Your contract, meal plan and daily choices will change the real amount.
The same UC page lists NZD 2,410 in annual or one-off costs for the homestay arrangement. The items include placement, books and stationery, parking and clothing. This plan includes NZD 2,410 once, as requested, rather than multiplying an unclear mixture of annual and one-off items across 18 months.
The current Fee Paying Student Visa costs from NZD 850. Immigration New Zealand separately requires enough money for tuition, living expenses and outward travel, together with acceptable insurance and other evidence. Applicants filing from South Asia also need to follow the current sponsor and financial-undertaking rules.
UC excludes the Student Services Levy and international student insurance from its fee estimate. Neither has been filled with an invented number. Flights, accommodation deposits, medical checks, police certificates, course repeats, extra points, bank spreads, transfer charges and future changes also remain outside the NZD 99,944 total.
The UC India High Achievers Scholarship lists a NZD 10,000 contribution to first-year postgraduate tuition for eligible Indian students beginning in New Zealand. Semester One 2027 applications close on 24 October 2026 and Semester Two applications close on 30 April 2027. It is competitive, so the base plan stays unchanged until an award is confirmed.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand B1 release dated 27 August 2026 supports the planning rate of NZD 1 to approximately INR 56.82. A five percent exchange movement changes the rupee comparison by about five percent before bank charges. The NZD total remains the binding base, with an INR buffer for conversion risk.
Can an Indian applicant get into the UC Master of Applied Data Science?
You can be considered if your bachelor’s is relevant to data science, includes 90 points of relevant advanced study with a UC B average, and prepares you to enter 400-level work in at least one relevant subject. The Executive Dean or delegate still approves the file, so the published minimum is not an offer.
Requirements in checking order
| Requirement | Published rule | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Prior degree (India) | University degree in an area relevant to data science | Upload the award, full transcript and grading scale |
| Relevant subjects (India) | Named examples include sciences, computing, humanities, economics, finance, geography, mathematics, physics, psychology and statistics | Explain how your degree supports data science study |
| Advanced study (India) | 90 relevant 300-level points with at least a UC B average | Map final-year and postgraduate courses by content, credits and marks |
| Honours prerequisites (India) | Preparation must allow 400-level or higher study in at least one relevant subject | Attach syllabi that prove the required academic depth |
| Final approval (India) | Executive Dean of Engineering or delegate approves candidature | Get a written admission decision before committing funds |
| Indian marks (India) | No MADS-specific percentage or CGPA threshold is published | Submit your institution's grading scale for UC assessment |
| English (India) | IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in every skill | Use one accepted result within two years of the start |
| GRE or GMAT (India) | Neither test is published as a MADS requirement | Do not budget for either unless UC requests it |
| Academic records (India) | Transcripts, graduation certificate, grading scale and English translations where needed | Prepare complete legible records before opening myUC |
The regulations state one part of the academic test directly.
passed 90 points in relevant 300-level courses with at least a B Grade Point Average
University of Canterbury, 2026 MADS qualification regulations This wording means an applicant must prove both the amount of advanced study and the required performance across it.
The conversion label refers to the range of accepted backgrounds, not to open admission from any degree. The regulations name several relevant fields, including biological sciences, computer science, digital humanities, economics, environmental science, finance, geography, geology, mathematics, physics, psychology and statistics. Another field needs approval based on what you studied.
Indian transcripts don’t label final-year courses as New Zealand 300-level points. UC must judge academic level, content and grade. A separate mapping can show one row per advanced course, including the semester, Indian credit value, mark, syllabus topics and the data-science connection. Distinct groups for programming, statistics, research methods and domain courses make the preparation visible to the assessor.
Don’t convert Indian credits into UC points by a private formula. The published rule is 90 relevant UC points, but no official MADS source gives a universal Indian-credit multiplier. Your mapping organises the evidence. UC decides whether the amount, level and content equal the required 90 points and whether the B average is met.
The 400-level prerequisite rule is separate from the 90-point total. A degree can contain enough advanced courses and still lack the prerequisites for honours-level study in one relevant subject. For example, a business graduate with analytics electives may need to show enough statistics, computing or another approved subject sequence to enter the required advanced courses.
The programme page summarises entry as a B GPA in 300-level courses or postgraduate achievement. The detailed regulations add the relevant-degree, 90-point and honours-prerequisite conditions. Use the regulation wording for a self-check and treat the shorter page wording as an introduction, not the whole rule.
UC publishes no single MADS percentage or CGPA threshold for India. Its institution-specific conversions vary, and the programme has subject conditions beyond the grade. A 55, 60, 65 or 70 percent figure copied from another UC qualification doesn’t prove MADS eligibility. Submit the grading scale and ask for a written programme assessment.
The current postgraduate English rule is IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with 6.0 in every skill. UC requires the result in one sitting within two years of the expected start. PTE, Duolingo, Cambridge, TOEFL and other accepted routes have their own component rules on the live page.
English-medium study in India isn’t published as an automatic programme waiver. UC assesses recognised English evidence under its central rules, and the programme sets no India-specific exception. Obtain written confirmation before relying on a medium-of-instruction letter, especially when avoiding an English test would determine the application or visa schedule.
The overseas admission page needs enough academic evidence to interpret an overseas award. Upload semester-level records when they show the courses that a consolidated statement hides. Missing subject detail can prevent UC from checking relevance even when the final score looks strong.
Four rules that decide an Indian application
A broad background still needs relevant advanced study
Biology, economics, finance, geography, psychology and other named backgrounds can qualify, but the degree title alone does not satisfy the rule. UC still checks 90 relevant advanced points and the B average. Show the courses that make the degree relevant rather than relying on the name of the award.Indian credits do not convert automatically into UC points
There is no published MADS formula that turns one Indian credit into a fixed number of UC points. Build a course-content map, attach syllabi and let UC decide academic level and equivalence. A private multiplier can create false confidence in a file that remains short in subject depth. The honours prerequisite is an additional academic check
The regulations require preparation for 400-level or higher study in at least one relevant subject. Ninety relevant points alone are not enough if the prior sequence does not support advanced study. UC must identify which subject area in the transcript meets this condition.Project access is decided after admission
Admission to MADS does not promise DATA603 or DATA605. The project routes have their own academic-progress, approval and capacity filters beyond admission to the degree. Plan DATA601 unless UC confirms the industry route.
How and when should an Indian student apply for the UC Master of Applied Data Science?
Apply through myUC for the on-campus route after mapping your relevant advanced study and preparing complete academic and English evidence. UC lists 1 December 2026 for Semester One 2027 and 1 May 2027 for Semester Two. The scholarship and visa schedules make an earlier submission safer.
Use myUC for on-campus admission and course enrolment. After UC issues the offer, meet its conditions, accept the Enrolment Agreement, prepay tuition as instructed, obtain the fee receipt, apply online for the student visa and complete enrolment after course and visa approval.
This intake is short by 132 days. Only 96 days remain and the chain needs 228. Target the next intake instead of rushing an incomplete file.
| Start by | Task | Takes | Why this date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17 Apr 2026 | Complete accepted English evidence | 75 days | Allow preparation, one official result and time for a retake if one skill misses 6.0. |
| 03 Jun 2026 | Prepare official academic records | 28 days | Allow four weeks for transcripts, the award certificate, grading scale and translations where needed. |
| 10 Jun 2026 | Map relevant advanced study | 21 days | Allow three weeks to collect syllabi and organise 90-point and prerequisite evidence. |
| 01 Jul 2026 | Submit the complete myUC application | 42 days | Allow six planning weeks for assessment and questions before the closing date. UC does not publish this as a decision time. |
| 12 Aug 2026 | Accept the offer and arrange funds | 21 days | Allow three weeks to check conditions, confirm the invoice, arrange payment and obtain the UC receipt. |
| 02 Sep 2026 | Submit the student visa application | 90 days | Use Immigration New Zealand's current advice to apply three months before intended travel. |
The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by University of Canterbury.
Start with the academic mapping because it needs the most judgement. List advanced courses by semester, Indian credits, marks and content. Attach syllabi where titles such as quantitative methods, computing applications or research project are too broad. State which relevant subject supplies preparation for 400-level work rather than leaving UC to infer it.
The overseas qualification process asks for transcripts, graduation certificates, a grading scale and translations for documents not in English. UC considers university admission and qualification admission together. Complete evidence can reduce avoidable questions, but only the university can approve the degree, grade and subject match.
UC’s international enrolment guidance says an application should allow at least 6 months before the planned start. The central international closing date is 1 December 2026 for Semester One 2027. The India High Achievers Scholarship closes earlier on 24 October. A student who wants the scholarship should have the myUC account, academic mapping, test evidence and supporting records ready well before the admission deadline.
UC’s international enrolment sequence moves from eligibility and myUC to fee prepayment, the student visa, course approval and final enrolment. Read every condition before paying. The Enrolment Agreement should confirm the real tuition, Student Services Levy, insurance, refund terms and approved courses for your file.
The visa file needs the approved offer, tuition evidence, genuine living funds, outward travel funds and acceptable insurance, with health or character evidence when required. Immigration New Zealand currently reports 80 percent of Fee Paying Student Visas within 8.5 weeks and encourages applying three months before travel. Neither figure guarantees your timing.
Choose the delivery route before using this timeline. The qualification page sends on-campus and distance applicants to myUC but sends fully online applicants through UC Online. The fee, term calendar, course list and immigration consequences can differ. This page’s 78-week cost and visa steps apply to a planned on-campus course in Christchurch.
An industry project cannot be planned at the admission stage. DATA603 and DATA605 are approved-start courses with student-specific dates, and both require results from at least 90 MADS coursework points. The school can explain grade calculation, partner matching, available places and the project start after taught study is under way.
What jobs can the UC Master of Applied Data Science lead to?
UC publishes individual graduates in data roles, but no MADS placement rate, cohort salary or typical time to employment. New Zealand occupation pay provides market context only. The strongest programme evidence is the substantial 45-point project, not a guaranteed job.
Outcome evidence and its limits
| Measure | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| MADS placement rate | Not published | Exact programme sources checked |
| UC graduate examples | Data, spatial and consulting roles | Selected individual stories, not a cohort |
| Data scientist pay | NZD 83,000 to 143,000 | Most common pre-tax occupation range |
| Post Study Work Visa | Up to 3 years | On-campus study and current rules |
The pay line covers New Zealand data scientists across experience levels. It is not UC graduate starting pay, a salary promise or evidence that every MADS graduate enters that occupation.
The degree can support roles that combine analysis, programming and a domain. UC names government, corporate organisations, IT, market research, finance, agriculture and transport as possible sectors. These are directions, not measured hiring outcomes. The qualification page does not say how many graduates enter each sector or how long international students take to find work.
UC’s published graduate stories give concrete but selective examples. Phuong Tang completed a Fonterra data analyst internship and later became a Data Scientist at Karit NZ Ltd. Yunxing James Ding’s story records later data roles at Sagitto, Air New Zealand and Contact Energy. These are individual journeys, not a recruiter list.
Other UC stories broaden the role picture. Joo-Hyun Ahn is identified as a Spatial Data Scientist at Orbica, and Athira Nair is identified as a Senior Consultant at Deloitte working in forensic and risk analytics. Their stories show possible uses of the degree. They do not establish a placement percentage, typical seniority or expected salary for a new graduate.
Across three independent public accounts from exact UC MADS students and graduates, substantial projects produced concrete outputs such as a compliance assistant, a transport-accessibility web tool and a supplier-record model. The accounts support that narrow pattern only. They don’t show that every project has an industry partner, gets deployed or leads to employment.
The official project choice sets the boundary. DATA601 is an applied team project. DATA603 is an industry internship project. The 2027 DATA605 industry research project is selective rather than a guaranteed industry experience, even after normal coursework progression.
Tahatū Career Navigator reports NZD 83,000 to NZD 143,000 as the most common pre-tax pay range for data scientists in New Zealand. It also shows NZD 61,000 at the lower end and NZD 176,000 at the upper end. The government profile says the occupation usually needs relevant experience and a qualification, so the master’s alone is not enough.
An on-campus graduate may apply for a Post Study Work Visa under the rules then in force. Current rules require a degree-level 7 or higher qualification studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 30 weeks. The visa can last up to three years and needs at least NZD 5,000, but qualification completion, timing, health and character conditions still apply.
Delivery mode changes the immigration answer. Full-time on-campus study in Christchurch can satisfy the current in-New-Zealand study condition if the other requirements are met. Completing the same degree online or by distance from India does not itself satisfy that condition. Work permission is also not a job offer or a route to residence.
How is UC ranked around the Master of Applied Data Science?
No ranking body reviewed ranks the Master of Applied Data Science itself. UC sits in the QS 401-450 band for Computer Science and Information Systems and the Times Higher Education 601-800 band for Computer Science in 2026. These are broad subject context and do not affect admission.
Who is the UC Master of Applied Data Science for?
It fits a graduate who can prove relevant advanced study and wants to combine data methods with an existing domain. It needs individual review for broad or lightly quantitative degrees. A student who needs a guaranteed internship, fixed one-year finish or programme placement rate should not shortlist it on those assumptions.
Match your background to the published rules
| Verdict | Your background | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strong fit | Computing, mathematics or statistics graduate with strong final-year marks | The background is directly relevant, but the file still needs 90 approved advanced points and 400-level preparation. |
| Strong fit | Finance, economics, science, geography or psychology graduate with quantitative depth | UC names these areas as possible relevant backgrounds, and electives can preserve the domain connection. |
| Needs evidence | Graduate with postgraduate achievement but mixed undergraduate marks | The programme page mentions postgraduate achievement, while the regulations still require UC to approve the degree, relevance and advanced preparation. |
| Needs evidence | Experienced analyst with uneven formal programming preparation | Foundation substitutions may recognise prior learning, but admission still depends on the academic entry rules and approved evidence. |
| Do not shortlist | General graduate without 90 relevant advanced points | The conversion design does not waive the binding advanced-course amount or the honours-level prerequisite. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant who needs a guaranteed industry project or internship | DATA603 and DATA605 are selective routes with grade, coursework, approval and capacity conditions. |
| Do not shortlist | Applicant whose budget works only with a 12-month finish | UC publishes a one to 1.5 year range and does not guarantee one on-campus sequence for every student. |
A strong applicant can show both subject depth and a reason for the conversion. A finance graduate might bring econometrics and risk work, while an environmental scientist might bring field data and modelling. The application is stronger when the transcript proves advanced preparation and the statement explains the domain problems the student wants to solve with data.
Computing and statistics graduates still need to check the programme’s purpose. The foundation courses may duplicate prior learning, but approved substitutions can move the study towards advanced options. Substitution is not automatic and does not reduce the 180-point award. UC must state which courses replace each foundation requirement and whether the resulting timetable fits the planned duration.
An experienced analyst should separate professional evidence from academic entry. Industry work can support foundation-course substitution when it matches the learning outcomes, but the admission regulation still asks for a relevant degree, 90 advanced points, the B average and 400-level preparation. A CV alone cannot replace an academic transcript or the university’s judgement.
A student focused on industry experience should compare all three project routes before enrolling. DATA601 can still produce a substantial applied output without an industry placement. DATA603 adds an industry internship and DATA605 adds industry research, but both selective routes depend on MADS results and approval earned after admission.
The on-campus route is the relevant choice for a student planning New Zealand post-study work. UC also offers distance and online delivery, which may suit a working professional who does not plan to relocate. The same award name does not make the living budget, course calendar or immigration outcome identical across delivery modes.
What does the 180-point UC Master of Applied Data Science curriculum contain?
The regulated structure has 45 foundation points, 60 advanced competency points, at least 30 approved elective points and one 45-point project. The project is one-quarter of the degree. The table keeps every compulsory course, every project option and the complete published elective subject range.
Complete regulated course and elective structure
| Code | Component | Points | Where it sits |
|---|---|---|---|
| COSC480 | Computer Programming | 15 | Foundation course, substitution may be approved |
| DATA401 | Introduction to Data Science | 15 | Foundation course, substitution may be approved |
| MBIS623 | Data Management | 15 | Foundation course, substitution may be approved |
| DATA420 | Scalable Data Science | 15 | Advanced competency |
| DIGI405 | Texts, Discourses and Data | 15 | Advanced competency |
| STAT448 | Big Data | 15 | Advanced competency |
| STAT462 | Data Mining | 15 | Advanced competency |
| DATA601 | Applied Data Science Project | 45 | Choose one project, Head approval |
| DATA603 | Applied Data Science Industry Project | 45 | Choose one project, selective entry |
| DATA605 | Applied Data Science Industry Research Project | 45 | Choose one project, selective entry |
| Approved 400 or 600 level | Biological sciences, chemistry, computing, data science, digital humanities, economics, environmental science, finance, geography, geology, geospatial data science, health, information systems, mathematics, philosophy, physics, project management, psychology or statistics | At least 30 | Other relevant subjects need approval |
| Total | 180 |
- Complete 45 foundation points unless equivalent prior learning supports approved substitutions
- Complete 60 advanced competency points, with more advanced substitutions only by approval
- Complete at least 30 points from the published domain-specific elective subjects
- Complete one 45-point project from DATA601, DATA603 or DATA605
- DATA603 and DATA605 require 90 prior coursework points, a B+ average or GPA 6.0 across 45 points, Head approval and available capacity
- The qualification permits no more than 30 failed points, and a failed project from Group 3 cannot be repeated
The three foundation courses make the conversion design practical. COSC480 covers programming, DATA401 introduces data science and MBIS623 covers data management. The Programme Director can require all three. Prior undergraduate study or equivalent industry experience may support approved substitutions, but any replacement must still contribute to the 180-point qualification.
The advanced core gives every student the same four named areas. DATA420 covers scalable work, DIGI405 brings text and humanities data into the degree, STAT448 covers big data and STAT462 covers data mining. UC advises students to complete the relevant statistics and Python foundation preparation before entering these advanced courses.
Electives provide the domain connection. The published subject range includes science, business, computing, humanities, health, geospatial study, psychology and project management. At least 30 points come from this range. Another subject needs approval from the Programme Director and the relevant Head.
The project is 45 points, exactly one-quarter of the degree. Several independent exact-programme accounts describe outputs such as web tools, deployed assistants, models, maps and decision systems. Those examples show what a substantial project can become, but the assessment, partner access and final output vary by route and student.
DATA601 is the general applied route and requires Head of School approval. The 2027 course page describes team work on real-world data science problems. It does not promise a company placement, paid work or a deployed product, so students should judge it as a substantial assessed project.
DATA603 and DATA605 have stricter entry. Each requires at least 90 completed MADS coursework points and a B+ average or GPA 6.0 from 45 of those points, followed by Head approval. Both 2027 pages publish a maximum enrolment of 80. DATA603 describes an industry internship, while DATA605 combines an industry partner with a research project.
Project failure carries an unusual consequence. The regulations permit up to 30 failed points under the general progression rule, but a failed Group 3 project cannot be repeated. Supervision, scope, assessment dates and support therefore need to be established before the project is treated as a low-risk final term.
Course availability and prerequisites remain separate from the award structure. The regulations show what may count, not what will run without timetable clashes in every 2027 intake. Obtain an approved 180-point plan in myUC and ask whether the plan completes in 12 or 18 months before arranging housing, work or travel around it.
Should you shortlist the UC Master of Applied Data Science?
Shortlist it if your degree contains enough advanced study in a field UC accepts as relevant and you want to connect data methods with that field. The binding check is 90 relevant 300-level points with a UC B average, plus preparation for 400-level study in at least one relevant subject.
The programme gives a career-switching student a structured route through programming, data management, scalable data science, text analysis, big data and data mining. The 30-point elective space can connect those methods to a field such as finance, health, environmental science, psychology or geospatial work. That flexibility is controlled by prerequisites and approvals, so the award is interdisciplinary without becoming a free-choice degree.
Three drawbacks can change the decision. The conservative plan is about INR 56.79 lakh before Student Services Levy, international insurance, flights and deposits. The broad conversion label still hides a strict advanced-study check, so a general degree with too little relevant final-year work may fail. An industry project is also not guaranteed because DATA603 and DATA605 require strong MADS grades, prior coursework, approval and limited places.
Before deciding, compare complete cost, advanced-study eligibility, application timing and project and job evidence.

Frequently asked questions
What is the total cost of the UC Master of Applied Data Science for an Indian student?
The conservative 18-month plan is NZD 99,944, approximately INR 56.79 lakh. It combines the full NZD 59,400 tuition fee, 78 weeks of UC's homestay estimate, its NZD 2,410 allowance once and the visa fee from NZD 850. Student Services Levy, insurance, flights, deposits and later changes remain extra.
What marks does an Indian applicant need for the UC Master of Applied Data Science?
UC requires a B average across 90 relevant 300-level points and preparation for 400-level study in at least one relevant subject. It publishes no MADS-specific Indian percentage or CGPA. Submit your full transcript, grading scale and course content so UC can assess academic level, relevance and equivalence.
Does the UC Master of Applied Data Science require GRE or GMAT?
Neither GRE nor GMAT appears in the current MADS qualification page or regulations. The decisive evidence is your relevant bachelor's, 90 advanced points, B average and preparation for honours-level study. UC can still ask for further academic information when assessing an overseas qualification, so keep detailed course evidence ready.
Can a non-computer science graduate apply for the UC data science master's?
Yes, if UC accepts the degree as relevant and the advanced-study conditions are met. The regulations name fields including biology, economics, finance, geography, physics and psychology. A broad background alone is not enough. UC still checks 90 relevant advanced points, the B average and preparation for 400-level study.
When is the 2027 deadline for the UC Master of Applied Data Science?
UC lists 1 December 2026 for Semester One 2027 international applications and 1 May 2027 for Semester Two. The programme starts in February or July. UC recommends applying at least six months before study, and the India High Achievers Scholarship closes earlier on 24 October or 30 April.
Does the UC Master of Applied Data Science include an internship?
An internship is possible but not guaranteed. DATA603 is the industry project route and DATA605 is the industry research route. Both require 90 completed MADS coursework points, a B+ average or GPA 6.0 across 45 points, Head approval and available capacity. DATA601 remains the general applied project route.
Is DATA605 guaranteed for UC Master of Applied Data Science students?
No. The 2027 DATA605 course requires 90 completed MADS coursework points, a B+ average or GPA 6.0 across 45 of those points, Head of School approval and a place within the maximum enrolment of 80. Admission to the master's does not guarantee the industry research project or a partner.
Can UC Master of Applied Data Science graduates get a Post Study Work Visa?
Eligible on-campus graduates may apply under the rules in force after completion. Current rules require a degree-level 7 or higher qualification studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 30 weeks. Online or distance study completed from India does not itself meet that location condition, and a visa never guarantees employment.
