Masters in Management in France are typically 2-year business-school programmes for final-year students and recent graduates with little or no full-time work experience, the profile stated by HEC Paris for its MiM.
The MiM label does not identify one French qualification or price. Official tuition examples include EUR 28,000, about INR 30.8 lakh, for ESCP‘s September 2026 academic year and EUR 57,700, about INR 63.4 lakh, across HEC‘s two-year schedule; official recognition belongs to the exact programme and graduating cohort, not the MiM, PGE or MSc label.
Who should choose a MiM in France instead of an MBA?
A MiM fits applicants with little or early professional experience who want a broad management programme. An MBA fits applicants who already have several years of responsible full-time work and need a cohort built around experienced managers.
The distinction is useful, but it isn’t a legal definition. Each programme sets its own experience policy, and the same school’s MBA can have a different experience profile.
The HEC Master in Management welcomes high potential students from all around the world with little or no professional experience.HEC Paris
The comparison below joins experience fit with award evidence and cost. It shows which programme form deserves a closer look without assuming that every course with the same label has the same status.
| Programme form | Experience fit | Prior degree fit | Recognition evidence to find | Total cost question |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Programme Grande École or MiM | Final-year student, recent graduate or early-career applicant | Bachelor’s or accepted equivalent under the named school rule | Exact state programme record, academic master’s status and validity dates where claimed | Do two academic years include an optional or required professional-immersion period? |
| National master’s in management | Applicant meeting the academic prerequisites for the first or second master’s year | Relevant prior subjects and accepted level | Named national master’s degree record | Which standard public fee, higher non-EU differentiated fee or written exemption applies? |
| School MSc | Graduate seeking a specialised management field | Programme-specific degree, subject or experience rule | Specialist-school label, professional record, state programme entry and academic status checked separately | Is the stated fee for one year, two years or only tuition before service charges? |
| MBA chosen only because it sounds senior | Weak fit without the work experience required by the programme | Degree plus the MBA’s professional-experience rule | Exact MBA award and any French or international accreditation claimed | Does the higher tuition and time away from work make sense for your experience? |
A MiM can still be the wrong choice for a fresh graduate if its curriculum repeats an undergraduate business degree or if the price depends on an uncertain job outcome. Modules, compulsory internships, international mobility and cohort background reveal that overlap. A substantial work record may instead make an MBA in France the closer match for experience and payback.
The four programme forms also answer different recognition questions. A Programme Grande École or school MiM needs evidence for the exact academic award and its validity period. A national master’s has its own state degree record. A school MSc may carry a specialist label or a professional registration without automatically carrying the academic grade de master. An MBA has a separate award and accreditation scope. The label therefore identifies a route to investigate, while the official programme record identifies what the graduate actually receives.
Programme duration changes the financial comparison just as much as the headline fee. A two-year MiM can include a professional-immersion period that extends the months supported in France. A one-year specialised MSc may have a shorter living-cost period but a different academic purpose. An MBA also carries the cost of time away from established employment. The useful comparison joins curriculum, intended experience level, exact award and every month of support, because no single column answers the choice by itself.
Does every French MiM award a recognised master’s degree?
No, the MiM title doesn’t by itself prove a national master’s degree or the academic grade de master. The decisive check is the exact award, campus and validity period that cover your graduating cohort.
A grade de master is an academic master’s grade granted to an authorised award. CEFDG is the national commission that evaluates specified business and management diplomas for a time-limited state visa and, where approved, the grade de master. In this context, a programme visa is an education-status term, not an immigration visa.
The French Higher Education Ministry’s current business-school list names programmes, teaching sites and validity dates. The school brand isn’t enough. Save the entry that covers the programme and the year in which you expect to graduate.
RNCP is France’s register of professional qualifications. Level 7 describes a qualification level. It doesn’t, by itself, grant the academic grade de master. France Compétences explains that master’s qualifications and other professional certifications can both be registered at level 7.
Sur ces critères, les Master, certifications professionnelles portées par le Ministère de l’enseignement supérieur, sont également enregistrés au niveau 7.France Compétences
A CGE MSc is a collective label from the Conférence des grandes écoles for an exact programme at an eligible member school. International accreditations such as AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA can indicate quality within their stated scope, but they don’t replace the French award check.
| Recognition claim | What it proves | What it does not prove | Official place to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| National master’s or grade de master | An academic master’s grade for the authorised award | That every programme at the school carries the same grade | French Higher Education Ministry and exact programme record |
| CEFDG visa and grade | State evaluation for the listed business-school programme, site and period | Permanent recognition for the whole school brand | CEFDG and the current ministerial list |
| RNCP level 7 | A professional qualification registered at level 7 while the record is active | The academic grade de master by level alone | France Compétences |
| CGE MSc label | A collective label for the exact member-school programme | A national master’s degree by label alone | CGE label directory |
| AACSB, EQUIS or AMBA | International accreditation evidence in the stated institutional or programme scope | French academic award status | The accreditor and the programme page |
The recognition table separates academic status from professional and international signals. The ministry and CEFDG records answer whether the exact business-school programme has a state visa or grade for a named site and period. RNCP answers a different question about the level of a professional qualification while its record is active. CGE and international accreditors each apply their own scope. Several entries can describe one programme at the same time, but one label cannot substitute for another.
Validity dates make the graduating cohort more important than the admission year alone. A student may enrol while an authorisation is active and graduate after the listed period unless the record covers the later cohort. The relevant evidence is therefore the named programme, teaching site, award and date range together. A school-wide accreditation or a ranking cannot fill a missing programme entry because neither proves the French academic status of that exact award.
A programme’s authorisation can end or change after you enrol. For later French degree recognition, doctorate entry or regulated work, ask the receiving authority what evidence it needs before paying the deposit.
Can you apply after a three-year Indian bachelor’s degree?
You can apply to programmes that explicitly accept a three-year bachelor’s or an accepted equivalent, but France has no universal guarantee for every Indian degree. HEC publishes that minimum for its MiM. Another school may set different prior-study, grade, subject or experience conditions.
The host establishment is the only party authorised to accept the applicant and determine the level of that acceptance.Campus France
Your degree title doesn’t carry enough information on its own. Collect the degree certificate, all semester transcripts, official grading scale, backlog history where requested, and proof of current enrolment if you haven’t graduated. Add an official medium-of-instruction letter only when the programme publishes a waiver route.
Management tests also vary. HEC accepts GMAT, GRE or TAGE MAGE and doesn’t publish a minimum score on the checked page. ESSEC’s current international MiM route accepts CAT from Indian applicants, alongside other tests, and gives CAT one-year validity. A CAT route at one school doesn’t transfer to another.
The following check applies the same evidence standard to every programme. It is a planning method, not an official admission score. A factor receives 1 only when the programme page or a written school reply makes the answer clear, and it remains 0 while the answer is missing.
Application-ready check = degree fit × experience fit × award evidence × test route × language evidence × portal order × full-duration affordability
| Factor | Evidence you collect | Give 1 when | Keep 0 when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Degree fit | Degree, transcripts, grading scale and the published prior-degree rule | Your qualification meets the stated duration and level | You are assuming every three-year Indian degree is accepted |
| Experience fit | Full-time roles, internships and the programme’s cohort rule | Your experience falls within the intended profile | The MiM would repeat your study or underuse substantial work experience |
| Award evidence | Exact programme, campus, cohort and register entry | You can name what the programme awards and prove the status you need | You only have the school name or a ranking |
| Test route | CAT, GMAT, GRE or TAGE MAGE policy and score validity | You meet one accepted route for this programme | You are carrying another school’s test rule across |
| Language evidence | Accepted test, threshold and waiver wording | You meet the score or the exact waiver condition | You assume an English-medium degree is automatically enough |
| Portal order | Direct or common route rule and India’s Campus France online procedure after admission | You know the first portal and any duplicate-application restriction | You plan to submit both routes in case one works |
| Full-duration affordability | Tuition, service charges, deposit timing and every living month for the actual one-year, two-year or extended route | The plan works without unawarded funding or expected part-time income | The budget omits part of the programme or a professional-immersion period, or relies on a scholarship result |
Consider a BCom graduate with a three-year degree, two internships and no full-time role. The school accepts that degree and profile, the exact award is verified, CAT is accepted, an English waiver is confirmed and the portal order is clear. The budget still depends on a scholarship that hasn’t been awarded.
Worked check = 1 × 1 × 1 × 1 × 1 × 1 × 0 = 0
The zero doesn’t predict rejection. It shows that the programme isn’t financially ready for the shortlist. Replace the uncertain scholarship with confirmed family funds, an approved loan or a lower-cost choice, then run the check again. Apply the same seven-answer test to any master’s programme in France, adding its own subject prerequisites and entry-year rules.
Which French business schools have usable MiM evidence for 2027?
HEC Paris had the clearest live 2027 MiM calendar on 6 August 2026. ESSEC, ESCP, EDHEC and emlyon still showed 2026, older or mixed-cycle material, so their figures are comparison evidence rather than 2027 promises.
The table isn’t a ranking. It shows how admission evidence, programme structure and fee cohorts can be labelled honestly while 2027 information is incomplete.
Join a School in France is the named common application route that HEC lists alongside its direct route. The route that owns an application also determines its fee, deadlines and submitted file.
| School and programme | Admission evidence | Current programme structure | Fee evidence status | What a 2027 applicant must recheck |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HEC Paris MiM | 2027 direct rounds and Join a School in France rounds are live | Two academic years with the school’s stated experience profile | Complete two-year schedule published across 2026/27 and 2027/28 | Actual entrant invoice, deposit terms and any later calendar change |
| ESSEC MiM | 2026 rounds remained visible; CAT accepted from Indian applicants with one-year validity | Intensive one-year and flexible routes have different schedules | 2026 non-EU totals published separately for each route | 2027 rounds, route, total charge and current test rules |
| ESCP MiM | 2027 applications were marked as opening soon; international route accepts a degree in any discipline and English at B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference, the upper-intermediate band | Multi-campus management programme | September 2026 annual charge published with stated service and registration costs | 2027 annual fee, application rounds and campus plan |
| EDHEC MiM Business Management | Page mixed an old June 2025 deadline with newer material | Two-year English programme with grade de master and professional immersion | Use only the current invoice after the calendar is corrected | Clean 2027 deadline, total tuition and immersion timing |
| emlyon MiM | 2026 programme material was current at the research date | Two-year route with school-specific progression and professional options | 2026 annual price and two-year total published | 2027 price, application rounds and any work-study conditions |
Official school evidence checked on 6 August 2026
The table has one genuinely live 2027 calendar and four different kinds of incomplete evidence. HEC publishes its direct and common-route rounds for 2027. ESSEC still provides useful test and route evidence from the visible cycle, while ESCP had not yet opened the marked 2027 application. EDHEC’s page mixed an old deadline with newer programme material, and emlyon still showed the 2026 cycle. These statuses are not equivalent, so none of the four incomplete calendars should be shifted forward by one year.
Fee evidence has the same cohort problem. HEC’s two-year schedule spans two named academic years, ESSEC publishes different totals for its intensive and flexible routes, and ESCP presents an annual charge rather than a complete multi-year total. EDHEC requires a corrected current invoice before a clean comparison is possible. The result is a comparison of evidence readiness, not a claim that every school has already published a final 2027 price.
HEC’s 2027 direct deadlines are 7 October and 26 November 2026, then 17 February and 26 April 2027. Its Join a School in France rounds close on 2 October 2026, 7 January, 26 February and 19 April 2027. The school says only the first validated file is processed if both routes are submitted.
School-specific variation also applies to English waivers. HEC’s current wording exempts applicants who completed their entire prior degree in English when they upload the university’s language-of-instruction statement. ESSEC publishes test thresholds, including IELTS 6.5 and TOEFL iBT 95, alongside its accepted routes. The binding rule is the one published for the programme being submitted.
How much does a MiM in France cost in total?
A private-school MiM can cost about INR 30 lakh to more than INR 60 lakh in published tuition before living costs, depending on programme length and cohort. The complete billed amount and every month of support matter more than a headline annual fee.
HEC’s fee page also describes a EUR 5,000 deposit, about INR 5.50 lakh, which is deducted from tuition under the stated terms. That deposit is an early cash need, not another charge to add to the total tuition shown in the table.
| Programme evidence | Published tuition and service total (EUR) | Approximate amount (INR) | Cohort limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| HEC Paris two-year MiM schedule | EUR 57,700 | INR 63.4 lakh | First MiM year 2026/27 plus second MiM year 2027/28 |
| ESSEC intensive route | EUR 42,270 | INR 46.5 lakh | 2026 non-EU total |
| ESSEC flexible route | EUR 57,240 | INR 62.9 lakh | 2026 non-EU total |
| ESCP annual non-European charge | EUR 28,000 per academic year | INR 30.8 lakh per academic year | September 2026 charge |
| emlyon two-year total | EUR 44,000 | INR 48.4 lakh | 2026 published total |
Current fee examples converted using EUR 1 = INR 109.90 on 5 August 2026
HEC uses about EUR 1,500 a month as a living-cost orientation for its location. A simple 24-month scenario therefore adds EUR 36,000 before travel, visa, insurance and setup. If your programme includes another 12 months of professional immersion or a gap period in France, the same planning assumption adds EUR 18,000 more.
Two-year planning total = billed tuition and service fees + monthly living budget × months in France + student-life contribution (CVEC) + application, travel, visa and insurance costs
Using the HEC schedule in the table and its EUR 1,500 monthly orientation gives EUR 93,700 for tuition plus 24 months of living, about INR 1.03 crore. A 36-month living scenario gives EUR 111,700, about INR 1.23 crore. These are planning calculations, not HEC invoices, and they exclude any income.
Students who owe the CVEC pay EUR 105 in 2026/27. A student with an exemption doesn’t pay, but everyone in scope must obtain an attestation showing payment or exemption before administrative registration. The 2027/28 amount isn’t published yet.
An unawarded scholarship has a value of zero in the starting budget. HEC says admitted master’s candidates are automatically reviewed for merit support, but review isn’t an award. EDHEC publishes academic-excellence reductions of up to 50% for selected master’s applicants and says its award can’t be combined with Eiffel. France scholarship routes also differ by whether they waive tuition or pay a stipend. The Eiffel scholarship starts with an institution nomination, so students don’t apply directly.
Build the remaining rent, food, transport, visa and arrival costs into a France student budget. A part-time job is supplementary income, not a safe answer to an unfunded tuition gap.
Do you apply through Campus France or directly to the school?
Apply through the school or its named common route first when the MiM page says so, then complete the applicable Études en France (EEF) step after admission. EEF is the Campus France online procedure used for academic files and accepted-student checks before visa filing in participating countries. India being an EEF country doesn’t make it the first academic portal for every business-school programme.
For a direct-admission MiM, you may use the school’s portal for selection and later declare the acceptance or complete the instructed EEF process. School admission, the Campus France step and the visa decision remain separate.
| Step | What you do | What the step decides | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Choose the direct school portal or the permitted common route | Which academic application is processed | Programme rule, account and payment receipt |
| 2 | Submit the degree, transcript, test, English and reference evidence before the round closes | Whether the school assesses a complete file | Final submitted PDF and official score reports |
| 3 | Attend the school’s interview if invited | The programme’s academic selection | Invitation and result notice |
| 4 | Accept one offer after checking the award, invoice and deposit terms | Your place and financial commitment | Offer, acceptance, register entry and payment terms |
| 5 | Complete the instructed EEF accepted-student procedure before visa filing | Campus France file review and academic interview where applicable | Validated file, INR 20,000 fee receipt where payable and interview record |
| 6 | Complete France-Visas and attend the VFS visa application centre that collects the file and biometrics | The French consular authority, not VFS, decides the visa | Personalised checklist, form, appointment and payment receipts |
The table separates academic selection from the later national and consular procedures. The school or common route first decides whether the academic application is assessed and whether an offer is made. EEF then handles the applicable Campus France file and academic interview for an accepted student in India. France-Visas and the consular authority handle the visa decision, while VFS collects the application and biometrics. Success at one stage does not complete or decide the next stage.
Each stage also creates different evidence. The school stage produces the submitted file, score reports, interview record and offer. Acceptance creates the invoice, deposit terms and financial commitment. The EEF stage produces a validated file and its payment or interview record where applicable. The visa stage uses its own personalised checklist, form, appointment and payment receipts. Keeping those records separate prevents a school admission document from being mistaken for proof that the EEF or visa step is complete.
The India EEF fee is INR 20,000 for files from 1 August 2026. Pay only after platform validation and the official payment prompt. The EEF fee is separate from the visa fee, VFS charge and post-arrival validation cost.
The Campus France India process places file review and the academic interview before the consular decision. After admission and EEF, the France student visa process requires the applicant’s live proof-of-resources documents and post-arrival formalities.
When should you apply for a France MiM starting in 2027?
Academic, test and affordability checks begin in August or September 2026, while submission follows only a live calendar for the named programme and intake.
| Period | Work you can do | Planning condition |
|---|---|---|
| August to September 2026 | Verify degree fit, work profile, award status, accepted tests and affordability for the actual programme duration | Current planning action |
| October to December 2026 | Use live early rounds and prepare school-specific interviews and funding files | Interview and funding timing is school-specific |
| January to April 2027 | Continue published rounds, compare offers and complete nomination-based scholarship work early | Offer comparison and scholarship timing can overlap |
| After admission | Check the final award, graduating cohort, invoice, deposit and refund terms before accepting | Offer-specific |
| Before travel | Complete EEF, visa, accommodation, CVEC and school registration steps as applicable | Route-specific and subject to live instructions |
Tests, references and finance evidence can be prepared before every 2027 page opens. Dated copies of the recognition and fee evidence preserve the basis of the final decision.
- A MiM usually fits final-year students, recent graduates and early-career applicants better than an MBA, but the programme’s own experience rule controls.
- The exact award, campus and graduating cohort decide whether a Programme Grande École, school MiM or MSc carries the recognition you need.
- A three-year Indian bachelor’s can meet a named programme’s rule, but there is no universal French guarantee for every Indian degree.
- Compare the complete billed schedule for your cohort and keep deposit timing separate from the total tuition.
- Budget every month in France, including any gap or professional-immersion period, and treat an unawarded scholarship as zero.
- A school-led MiM normally starts with the school’s direct or common route, followed by the applicable EEF and visa steps.
Frequently asked questions
Is a MiM in France good for Indian students without work experience?
Yes, many MiM programmes are designed for final-year students, recent graduates and applicants with little professional experience. Full-time work isn’t a universal prerequisite, but the named programme’s rule controls. Check its required degree, any internship expectations and the current cohort profile before applying.
Can I apply after a three-year Indian bachelor’s degree?
You can apply where the school explicitly accepts a three-year bachelor’s or an equivalent qualification. HEC publishes that minimum for its MiM, but it isn’t a national guarantee. Match your degree, transcripts, grading scale and any stated subject conditions to each programme, and obtain written clarification when the rule is unclear.
What is the difference between a MiM and an MBA in France?
A MiM normally serves students and early-career graduates who need broad management training. An MBA normally expects material post-graduation work experience and uses that experience in class. Neither label creates one universal rule, so compare the current programme’s minimum experience, class profile, duration, tuition and opportunity cost before choosing.
Is a Programme Grande École MiM a recognised master’s degree?
It may be, but the Programme Grande École label alone doesn’t prove the academic grade de master. Check the exact diploma, campus and validity dates in the current ministerial or CEFDG record. Verify any RNCP and CGE claims separately, then preserve the entry that covers your expected graduating cohort.
Can Indian students use CAT for MiM admission in France?
Yes, ESSEC’s current international MiM route accepts CAT from Indian applicants and states one-year score validity. HEC lists GMAT, GRE and TAGE MAGE instead. CAT isn’t a France-wide MiM test route, so confirm the accepted exam, validity period and any minimum on each programme page before registering.
How much does a MiM in France cost?
Published school fees differ by programme length and cohort. Compare the complete billed tuition and service charges, not an annual headline. Then add CVEC, deposit timing and every living month. For a 2027 start, use the current invoice and keep any unawarded scholarship out of the available-funds total.
Do I apply through Campus France or directly to the school?
For a school-led MiM, start with the direct school portal or its permitted common route when the programme says so. After admission, complete the applicable Études en France accepted-student procedure before visa filing. The school decision, Campus France process and consular visa decision are separate stages with different evidence.
When should I apply for a France MiM starting in 2027?
Begin degree, test, recognition and affordability checks in August or September 2026. Submit on the earliest live round that suits your readiness, test result and funding plan. Copy the deadline from the current programme page, keep a dated record and never shift a prior-cycle date forward by one year.
