An Indian citizen can apply for the 2026/27 Banach NAWA scholarship, but an Indian passport alone is not enough. The 2026/27 call also asks where and when you completed your first degree. The degree must come from a Banach programme country and be dated 2024 or later. The current award pays PLN 2,500 a month, adds a PLN 2,500 travel allowance and waives tuition at a public university covered by the programme. Under the same 2026/27 rules, Banach selection doesn’t replace the university’s separate admission process.

Another NAWA name creates the opposite answer. India is absent from the exhaustive 2026 Poland My First Choice country list, so an applicant relying only on Indian citizenship can’t use that edition. Erasmus Mundus and selected university awards can still be relevant, but they fund different things and open at different stages. This guide uses live 2026 and 2026/27 evidence to build a 2027 plan. Every country list, date and amount needs a fresh check if a 2027 call is published.

Which scholarship routes can an Indian student use?

Start with eligibility, timing and funding type, not the scholarship headline. Banach is a national award attached to a qualifying second-cycle route. Erasmus Mundus belongs to a named mobile joint master’s. Kozminski has an admission-stage tuition award. Rector scholarships at public universities normally depend on an enrolled-student record and academic performance.

The labels describe coverage, not certainty. A tuition waiver does not provide rent money. A monthly stipend does not automatically cover tuition at a private institution. A mobility award can require study outside Poland for part of the degree. An after-enrolment scholarship cannot be the money that makes the first tuition payment possible.

Does an Indian applicant qualify for Banach NAWA?

India is on the current list, but Banach eligibility is a five-part test. The 2026/27 call covers applicants who are citizens of a named programme country and who obtained the qualifying first-cycle degree in a programme country. It does not treat nationality and degree location as interchangeable.

Applicants must be citizens and must have obtained their degree in one of the listed countries.
NAWA applicant information

Citizenship. India is expressly included in the 2026/27 programme-country list. Polish citizens cannot use this call.
Degree country. The first-cycle degree must come from a programme country. An Indian citizen whose qualifying bachelor’s degree was awarded in Poland fails this current condition.
Degree date. The degree must have been obtained no earlier than 2024. A final-semester student could apply only if the degree was completed by 15 July 2026.
Prior qualification and funding. A person who already holds a master’s or uniform master’s degree is excluded. A previous NAWA Director scholarship for second-cycle study also blocks the current route.
Study route. The award supports full-time second-cycle study starting in October 2026. The current call excludes a February start.

Language is a separate filter. The current Banach call requires B2 English for an English-taught master’s and B2 Polish for direct Polish-taught study. The Polish preparatory-year route accepts B1 Polish and leads into Polish-taught study. An English programme still includes Polish language and culture study under the current award.

This is why an applicant with a strong CGPA can still be formally ineligible. A 2023 Indian bachelor’s degree fails the current recency rule before grades, motivation and university reputation are scored. A 2025 bachelor’s degree from a country outside the programme list can fail the degree-country rule even when the applicant is an Indian citizen. Both rules need a fresh reading if a 2027/28 call is published.

What does Banach NAWA pay for?

The current package combines a stipend, travel support and a public-university fee rule. NAWA lists PLN 2,500 monthly during the standard study or preparatory period, a one-time PLN 2,500 travel allowance and tuition waiver at a public university covered by the programme.

The INR orientation uses the European Central Bank reference rates recorded on 7 August 2026. Exchange rates change, so an applicant should budget in the award currency and convert again near payment. The national Study.gov.pl cost guide places a low student-living orientation at PLN 1,500 to PLN 2,000 monthly, while warning that the city changes the result. That does not prove PLN 2,500 covers every student’s real budget.

Banach is a tuition-waiver, stipend and travel package with defined limits. A blanket all-costs-covered label would hide a private-university fee, a high city rent, a deposit or an unfunded gap before arrival. How are Banach applications scored?

Formal eligibility gets the file into assessment. It does not win the scholarship. The current Banach call awards up to 70 points for academic achievement, 30 for the motivation video and 10 for an optional recommendation from a Polish diplomatic mission.

An Indian applicant with 8.4 out of 10 receives 58.8 academic points under the standard formula. Adding the minimum 20 motivation points produces 78.8 before any mission recommendation. This clears the published minimum of 70 total, but it does not predict an award because qualifying applications are ranked and country allocations can affect the final list.

The current motivation video must run for one to three minutes and cannot use third-party images. Its short length rewards an exact case. The applicant needs to show why this field, why the named Polish programme and how the education will be used afterwards. Repeating a university brochure wastes the limited time.

Academic scales can need special treatment. NAWA’s call explains how reverse or alphabetic systems are handled. Do not force such a transcript into the simple ten-point example. Upload the prescribed grade evidence and translation, then use the call’s own method for the actual scale.

Should the scholarship or university application come first?

The two processes overlap. NAWA does not arrange university admission, yet the current scholarship file asks for evidence that the applicant is participating in the named university process. Waiting for a final admission decision can miss Banach’s short call. Applying to NAWA without starting university contact can leave the file without acceptable evidence.

The precise option depends on the study route in the call. That creates a practical sequence for a 2027 applicant.

Start the university application or written contact early enough to create the accepted participation evidence.

The 2026 Banach window ran from 13 April to 8 May at 3.00 pm CEST and could close earlier if the application cap was reached. Results were expected by 31 July. Those dates reveal a sequence, not the 2027 calendar. A sensible plan has the shortlist and degree evidence ready before April, then replaces every date if a new call is published.

How does Erasmus Mundus differ from a Poland scholarship?

Erasmus Mundus does not fund any master’s you choose in Poland. It funds selected joint master’s programmes delivered by a consortium, usually across more than one university and country. A Polish university may be one partner, but the applicant applies to the programme consortium and follows its mobility plan.

In most cases, applications run between October and January for courses starting the following academic year.

Worldwide applicants can apply with a bachelor’s degree or during the final bachelor year if they graduate before the joint master’s begins. A programme can last one or two academic years and carry 60, 90 or 120 ECTS. Under the current Erasmus Mundus terms, scholarship holders cannot be charged tuition or other mandatory participation costs. The award pays EUR 1,400 monthly for the supported period, up to 24 months, as a contribution to travel, visa, installation and subsistence.

That amount is about INR 1,53,759 using the 7 August 2026 reference conversion. It is still a contribution against a multi-country living plan, not proof that every flight, visa, rent deposit and personal cost will be covered. The programme guide also makes selection competitive, bars a second Erasmus Mundus scholarship and applies nationality balancing.

DigiCrea shows what a Polish connection can look like. The University of Silesia participates with institutions in France and Portugal. Its current official page says about 82 per cent of enrolled students receive EUR 1,400 monthly for 24 months. The 2026 application deadline was 16 February, so the example proves the route and coverage, not a 2027 opening.

Do not confuse this joint-degree award with an ordinary Erasmus+ exchange grant. The Erasmus+ exchange route starts with enrolment at a participating home institution and forms part of the student’s degree. It is not a general scholarship for an independently chosen full degree in Poland.

Which university awards exist before and after enrolment?

A university can offer both admission-stage and enrolled-student funding. The name scholarship does not tell you which one it is. The application rule and payment stage do.

Kozminski’s admission-stage route is the only example here that can directly alter the tuition plan before study begins. The current second-cycle selection gives 90 per cent weight to the admission test and 10 per cent to bachelor GPA. Twelve second-cycle awards are listed, seven on English programmes. The 31 July 2026 deadline and award count are current evidence, not 2027 facts.

The Foundation, University of Warsaw and AGH examples are later merit routes. They may reduce cost after a student has built the required record, but they should not be placed in the guaranteed first-year budget. A first-year second-cycle applicant at Warsaw can sometimes use previous-year results when the new study begins within 12 months of the first degree. That is a defined exception, not a general promise to every new international student.

What should a 2027 scholarship plan assume?

No official page read for this guide publishes a complete 2027/28 Banach, Poland My First Choice, Erasmus Mundus and university calendar. The current evidence is useful for preparation only. The safest funding plan survives even if dates, award counts or amounts change.

By October 2026, identify Erasmus Mundus programmes with a real Polish partner and read each consortium’s mobility, admission and scholarship rules.
If Banach reopens, verify the degree country and date, language evidence, translations and likely university-process document.
Keep a course affordable without an after-enrolment Rector award. Treat that award as later upside.
Budget public and private tuition separately. Never carry Banach’s public waiver into a private-university calculation.
Keep a cash reserve for deposits, insurance, visa and travel gaps even when a stipend is awarded.

Run two budgets before accepting an offer. The first should work with the confirmed award and a conservative exchange rate. The second should work if an admission-stage scholarship is refused or an after-enrolment award never arrives. A course that survives only in the optimistic case needs a cheaper university, more personal funding or a different intake.
