Seven universities in Poland have current 2026/27 English-taught examples on this page, with tuition from PLN 3,000 a semester at Adam Mickiewicz University to EUR 3,100 a semester at SGH for the selected programmes. At the 7 August 2026 reference rate, PLN 3,000 is about INR 76,700 and EUR 3,100 is about INR 3.40 lakh. These aren’t 2027/28 quotes, which haven’t been published across the selected universities.

The useful shortlist for an Indian student isn’t the longest list of top universities in Poland. It is the smallest set where the exact programme is legally current, the language and Indian-document route are clear, and the fee and housing plan work together. This page compares official Polish programme evidence and then shows the verification method behind it, so the next decision is which three to five programmes deserve an application fee.

How should you shortlist universities in Poland?

A university’s overall position in a league table can’t answer the questions that decide admission. It doesn’t show whether one English-taught course is still running, whether that course has a current Polish Accreditation Committee evaluation, which Indian school documents the university accepts, or how quickly the first fee is due. Those details sit in different official systems.

A sound shortlist begins with the field and study level, then moves through current programme status, admission evidence, cost, and city fit. The order matters because an attractive brand with no suitable English programme is not an option, and a low fee with an unworkable document route isn’t affordable in practice. Students choosing a specific degree can narrow this further through the pages for a master’s in Poland, an MBA in Poland, or medicine in Poland.

A five-part university shortlistA name stays only when all five parts can be answered for the exact programme.
Decision Evidence that answers it Warning sign
Course fit Current curriculum, level, ECTS, mode, and language A university name without an exact programme
Legal status Institution and course record in RAD-on An English name treated as proof of status
Quality evidence Exact programme and resolution in the PKA database Accredited used as an institution-wide label
Admission fit Live intake rules for Indian documents and English A general country guide used instead of university rules
Money fit Tuition schedule, payment date, dorm evidence, and city plan Annual tuition quoted without upfront cash needs

That method produces fewer applications, but each application has a reason behind it. A sensible working set is three to five exact programmes rather than ten university home pages. The wider Poland study guide covers the country-level choice, while this page owns the institution and programme comparison.

What do public, private, academic, and professional mean?

Poland uses two separate classifications. An institution can be public or non-public, which describes its founding and funding status. It can also be academic or professional, which describes its academic role. These labels shouldn’t be collapsed into a single public-good and private-bad scale.

An academic institution conducts research and can provide doctoral education when it holds the required authority. A professional institution concentrates on practical education and cannot provide doctoral education. That difference matters to a student who expects a research master’s to lead towards a doctorate. It may matter less to someone choosing a strongly applied first-cycle programme with a clear curriculum and placement structure.

English translations of names of higher education institutions are not subject to any verification by state authorities.

NAWA, higher education institutions

The warning is practical because an English marketing name may contain the word university even when that translation has no official status. The Polish legal entity in RAD-on settles what the institution is. For an Indian family comparing unfamiliar names, that record is more useful than the typography on a brochure.

Public universities often offer broad research infrastructure and familiar names, while non-public universities can offer specialist, professionally oriented programmes and different schedules. Neither label settles value. A private programme with a clear course record and manageable cash flow can fit better than a public programme that misses the student’s field, just as a public research university can be the stronger route for doctoral ambitions.

How does programme verification work?

Poland’s official tools answer different questions. Studyfinder helps discover programmes taught in English. It does not replace the institution’s live offer, and its own disclaimer says the information is supplied by universities. A programme found there still needs a current course record and intake page.

The Ministry does not accept liability for any errors or omissions in the contents of this application.

RAD-on is the legal-data layer. Its open course dataset comes from POL-on and is refreshed nightly. A course record can show the Polish and English names, leading institution, study level, mode, teaching language, duration, ECTS, and current operating status. That makes it possible to separate a live programme from an old page that still appears in search.

The Polish Accreditation Committee database is the evaluation layer. Its result applies to a named programme at a particular institution and level. It doesn’t automatically cover another course in the same faculty, and the absence of a visible result shouldn’t be rewritten as a negative decision.

The database contains only legally binding resolutions of the Presidium of the Polish Accreditation Committee.

Gdansk University of Technology’s English first-cycle Power Engineering course shows the chain working. A live RAD-on response on 10 August 2026 returned the course as currently conducted, full-time, seven semesters, and 210 ECTS. The same record carried a positive PKA rating dated 19 October 2023. Gdansk Tech’s admissions page then supplied the current English offer and 2026/27 fee. The result belongs to Power Engineering, not every programme at Gdansk Tech.

Which universities fit different study goals?

There is no honest single winner across engineering, economics, data, science, and humanities. The stronger comparison asks what official evidence exists for the exact study goal. The matrix below uses one current English-taught example from each institution and refuses to turn those examples into a general rank.

Programme decision matrix for 2027 planningProgramme and fee evidence is current for 2026/27. The status result shown for Gdansk applies only to that exact course.
Study goal and university Current English example Status evidence 2026/27 tuition City and housing signal
Data and economics
University of Warsaw
Data Science and Business Analytics Official offer. Exact RAD-on and PKA course review remains programme-specific EUR 4,900 annually in one payment Warsaw. University housing exists, but this page does not use an undated dorm price
Computing and engineering
AGH University of Krakow
Computer Science BSc Official English offer. Exact PKA result must match the course EUR 3,000 per semester Krakow. Dorm tariff is PLN 550 to PLN 690 by term and standard
Energy engineering
Gdansk Tech
Power Engineering BSc RAD-on active. Positive PKA result dated 19 October 2023 PLN 10,000 per semester Gdansk. About 3,000 dorm places, with strong demand and no single-room offer
Area studies
Adam Mickiewicz University
Central Europe in International Perspective MSc Official programme offer. Exact course record remains the next status check PLN 3,000 per semester Poznan. The lower tuition leaves more room for housing in the same total budget
Applied computing
Wroclaw Tech
Applied Computer Science BSc Official English fee offer. Programme-level PKA evidence remains distinct PLN 8,900 per semester Wroclaw. The university says the stated tuition remains unchanged during study
Life science
University of Wroclaw
Biotechnology BSc Official English fee offer. Exact course record remains programme-specific EUR 4,200 in year one, then EUR 4,000 Wroclaw. Later-year tuition is visible, which improves full-degree planning
Finance and economics
SGH Warsaw School of Economics
Finance and Accounting MSc Official English graduate offer. Prior-degree fit still controls admission EUR 3,100 per semester in one payment Warsaw. Specialist fit must justify the higher city budget

The University of Warsaw economics fee fits students who want a quantitative programme inside a broad research university and can meet a more layered foreign-document route. AGH’s current English fees and Gdansk Tech’s English offer support concrete engineering choices, but their housing signals differ. AGH publishes a low dorm tariff, and its international admissions guidance limits allocation to available rooms. Gdansk Tech publishes student-house capacity and says single rooms are unavailable because of demand.

Adam Mickiewicz University’s named master’s is the lowest tuition example in the matrix according to its current fee page, but low tuition alone doesn’t make it the best value. The programme is specialised and should match the student’s academic goal. Wroclaw Tech and the University of Wroclaw demonstrate another useful distinction. Two institutions in the same city can serve different academic aims and publish fees in different currencies and billing structures.

For Finance and Accounting at SGH, a place on the shortlist comes from subject fit and a workable fee plan, not a claim that it beats every Polish university. That distinction keeps the comparison useful for an Indian applicant whose prior bachelor’s degree and planned career matter more than an overall rank.

What do current university fees show?

The 2026/27 figures show why a national tuition range is too blunt for university choice. The selected English programmes are billed in either Polish zloty or euros, by semester or by year, and sometimes at different totals depending on the instalment plan. A 2027 applicant can use them for scale, but not as a fee quote for the next intake.

At the European Central Bank reference rates dated 7 August 2026, EUR 1 was INR 109.8275 and PLN 1 was INR 25.5514. The INR amounts below are estimates at those rates. They exclude the student’s bank spread and transfer fee.

Current tuition examples in rupeesAll figures come from 2026/27 university pages and are not 2027/28 promises.
Programme Published fee Approximate INR Billing detail
UW Data Science and Business Analytics EUR 4,900 a year INR 5.38 lakh a year EUR 5,050 in two payments or EUR 5,200 in ten
AGH Computer Science BSc EUR 3,000 a semester INR 3.29 lakh a semester Two-semester academic year
Gdansk Tech Power Engineering BSc PLN 10,000 a semester INR 2.56 lakh a semester First-semester payment is usually due within two weeks of the order
AMU Central Europe MSc PLN 3,000 a semester INR 76,700 a semester PLN 100 application fee
Wroclaw Tech Applied Computer Science BSc PLN 8,900 a semester INR 2.27 lakh a semester University says the fee stays unchanged during study
University of Wroclaw Biotechnology BSc EUR 4,200 in year one INR 4.61 lakh in year one EUR 4,000 in later years
SGH Finance and Accounting MSc EUR 3,100 a semester INR 3.40 lakh a semester EUR 3,150 when paid in instalments

The instalment detail changes the decision. The University of Warsaw economics fee table adds EUR 300 across ten payments compared with one annual payment. SGH also charges a slightly higher total for instalments. Gdansk Tech creates a different pressure because its first-semester payment is usually due within two weeks of the payment order. A cheaper annual figure can still demand more cash earlier.

First-year university plan = tuition due for the first academic year + 12 months of living costs + application fee + housing deposit

This isn’t a visa proof-of-funds formula. The worked example uses Gdansk Tech’s current tuition, its first-cycle application fee, the national living-cost orientation, and the published dorm deposit. Use the same inputs when comparing options through the dedicated cost of studying in Poland analysis.

Worked first-year estimate for Gdansk Tech Power EngineeringThis assumes a dorm place, which the university does not guarantee.
Two semesters of tuition PLN 20,000
12 months at the low end of the national living-cost orientation PLN 18,000
Application fee for the relevant first-cycle route PLN 100
Published dorm deposit PLN 700
Planning total PLN 38,800, about INR 9.91 lakh

The estimate excludes flights, insurance, residence paperwork, bank charges, personal setup costs, and any private-room premium. Use the same exclusions when comparing another university, and replace the dorm assumption if no place is confirmed.

How should city and housing affect the choice?

Official national guidance places student living costs at roughly PLN 1,500 to PLN 2,000 a month. That is an orientation, not a promise for central Warsaw or a private studio. Comparable current city-wide private-rent evidence is not published by one official source, so this page doesn’t manufacture a Warsaw-versus-Krakow rent ranking from property listings.

University housing gives a more defensible signal. Warsaw University of Technology publishes 12 residences and a 2026/27 range of PLN 420 to PLN 770 a month, plus a PLN 500 guarantee fee. AGH’s tariff runs from PLN 550 to PLN 650 for October to December 2026, then PLN 580 to PLN 690 from January 2027. AGH also says allocation continues only while rooms remain.

Gdansk Tech has 12 student houses with about 3,000 places. Its international admission FAQ gives a then-current maximum of PLN 700 a month and a PLN 700 deposit, but also says single rooms can’t be offered because of demand. That combination is more useful than the price alone. It shows an affordable bed and a real allocation constraint at the same time.

A Warsaw university can still be the right choice when the programme is materially stronger for the student’s goal, but the housing plan needs more margin. A programme in Poznan or Wroclaw may free money for private housing, yet that possibility shouldn’t rescue a poor academic fit. City choice comes after programme fit and before the final affordability decision.

What does the Indian admission route involve?

For an Indian student entering a Polish first-cycle or long-cycle programme, school-certificate recognition and university admission are separate decisions. NAWA’s current route generally requires an individual recognition statement for an Indian secondary-school certificate. The KWALIFIKATOR database can help explain the qualification, but it doesn’t replace an individual statement where one is required.

University of Warsaw’s 2026/27 rules make the separation visible. Candidates holding school documents from outside the listed EU, EFTA, OECD, and agreement groups need the individual NAWA statement, accepted proof of at least B2 language competence, and a positive university entrance examination for first-cycle or long-cycle admission. An English-medium letter isn’t a universal substitute for the university’s accepted B2 evidence.

That University of Warsaw example shouldn’t be copied onto every institution. It shows the kinds of checks an Indian applicant may face and why current university rules matter. Master’s admission adds a different question because the university assesses the level and subject fit of the Indian bachelor’s degree. A degree can be recognised as higher education and still miss the academic prerequisites of a specialised master’s.

The practical document set therefore has separate lanes. One establishes what the Indian qualification is, one proves the programme’s academic prerequisites, and one proves the language standard. Treating these as one eligibility certificate creates late surprises. The Poland student visa is another decision after admission, not evidence that a university or course is suitable.

When should applications start?

Poland has no single national application deadline. Universities publish their own rounds, and different programmes at one institution can close on different dates or require separate examinations. A page that gives one Poland deadline hides the part that matters.

The 2027/28 fee tables and recruitment resolutions are not yet published across the universities compared here. The useful planning work in August 2026 is programme discovery, qualification and language review, and document preparation. The application decision becomes current only when the exact 2027/28 offer, timetable, fee order, and required-document list are live.

Payment timing deserves the same attention as the closing date. Gdansk Tech says the first-semester tuition is usually due within 2 weeks of the payment order. The University of Warsaw and SGH publish instalment options with a higher total. A student waiting for an education-loan sanction needs those dates in the shortlist before paying multiple application fees.

Scholarship schedules can also sit outside the university admission calendar. The Poland scholarships page should be read alongside the programme timetable, because an admission deadline and a scholarship deadline aren’t interchangeable.

How do you build the final shortlist?

The final shortlist should contain exact programme names, not only institutions. Each row needs the official 2027/28 offer when available, the live RAD-on status, any applicable PKA resolution, the student’s document and English route, first payment date, full first-year estimate, and a housing fallback. If one field remains unknown because the university hasn’t published it, that uncertainty belongs in the comparison rather than behind an invented average.

The first removal is any programme that doesn’t match the study goal or prior qualification. The second is an unclear legal or delivery status. The third is a fee and housing plan that fails once deposits and timing are included. Prestige enters only after those filters, where it can help separate two programmes that are already academically and financially workable.

For most Indian applicants, that process leaves three kinds of choice. One may be an ambitious research-university programme with a harder admission route. Another may be a strong subject-specific public institution with a clearer fee and housing position. The third may be a financially safer programme that still meets the academic goal. That is a healthier spread than three famous names chosen from one ranking table.

Key takeaways

  • The best universities in Poland can’t be ranked honestly for every student. The exact programme, status, admission route, fee, and city decide the fit.
  • Studyfinder supports discovery, RAD-on verifies legal programme data, and PKA publishes programme-level evaluation resolutions.
  • Gdansk Tech Power Engineering is the worked example, with an active RAD-on record and a positive PKA result dated 19 October 2023.
  • Selected 2026/27 tuition ranges from PLN 3,000 a semester at AMU to EUR 3,100 a semester at SGH, but these are not 2027/28 quotes.
  • For Indian first-cycle applicants, NAWA recognition, university admission, B2 evidence, and any entrance examination are separate requirements.
  • A low dorm tariff does not guarantee a bed. AGH and Gdansk Tech both publish availability constraints.
  • The repeatable first-year formula combines tuition, 12 months of living costs, the application fee, and a housing deposit.

Frequently asked questions

Which are the best universities in Poland for Indian students?

There isn’t one best university across every field. University of Warsaw, AGH, Gdansk Tech, AMU, Wroclaw Tech, University of Wroclaw, and SGH each have current English-taught examples. The defensible choice depends on the exact programme, its RAD-on and PKA evidence, Indian admission route, tuition, and housing plan.

Are public universities in Poland better than private universities?

Public status does not settle quality or fit. Poland separately classifies institutions as public or non-public and academic or professional. A student aiming for research may prefer an academic institution, while an applied programme can fit a different goal. The exact course record, curriculum, PKA evidence, fee, and delivery mode matter more than ownership alone.

How can I verify a university in Poland?

The Polish legal entity and current course can be found in RAD-on. The PKA database then shows legally binding programme evaluation resolutions where available. Studyfinder helps discover English-taught options, while the university’s live intake page supplies the current curriculum, admission rules, language evidence, tuition, payment date, and application timetable.

How much do universities in Poland cost?

Current 2026/27 examples vary sharply by programme. AMU’s selected English master’s is PLN 3,000 a semester, Gdansk Tech Power Engineering is PLN 10,000, and SGH Finance and Accounting is EUR 3,100. These are programme examples, not national averages or 2027/28 promises, and living costs sit on top.

Can Indian students study in Poland without IELTS?

A blanket without-IELTS claim is unsafe. Universities define acceptable B2 evidence for each intake. University of Warsaw’s 2026/27 rules publish a specific evidence list for foreign candidates, so a general English-medium letter cannot be assumed to work everywhere. The exact programme’s current language resolution controls what is accepted.

Do Indian Class XII certificates need NAWA recognition?

Indian applicants to first-cycle or long-cycle study generally need an individual NAWA recognition statement for their secondary-school certificate under the current route. KWALIFIKATOR can explain a qualification but does not replace the individual statement where required. Recognition also does not guarantee admission because the university applies its own programme criteria.

Is university accommodation guaranteed in Poland?

No. A published dorm tariff shows price, not availability. AGH allocates rooms only while its pool remains, and Gdansk Tech says it cannot offer single rooms because of demand. A first-year budget using a dorm price therefore needs a private-housing fallback and enough margin for a higher monthly cost.

When do Polish university applications open for 2027?

There is no single national opening date or deadline. Each university and programme publishes its own 2027/28 schedule, and many selected pages had not released that intake by 10 August 2026. Programme discovery and document preparation can begin earlier, but the final application should use the live 2027/28 timetable and fee order.
