A master’s in Poland can be a workable 1.5 to 2 year route for an Indian graduate, with current named 2026/27 tuition in this comparison starting at EUR 1,750 per semester. Even after meeting the published tuition, a Polish offer depends on two separate decisions. NAWA must issue the individual recognition statement required for an Indian degree, and the university must accept your previous subjects for the exact programme. The right first check is therefore your transcript against the programme prerequisite, followed by an early recognition application through NAWA’s online SYRENA system.

This distinction matters most to applicants with a three-year BA, BSc or BCom. A degree can give access to master’s study in India and still be academically unrelated to a Polish course. Current 2026/27 university rules also differ on entrance exams, accepted English evidence, fees and deadlines, so the page uses named official examples rather than one national cutoff.

What is a master’s degree in Poland, and how long does it take?

A standard postgraduate master’s is called second-cycle study in Poland and usually takes 1.5 to 2 years. The official Polish higher-education description gives a normal range of 90 to 120 ECTS credits, while the degree commonly awards the title magister or magister inżynier.

ECTS is the European workload unit used by Polish universities. The government study portal says one academic year is 60 ECTS. A three-semester programme is therefore normally 90 ECTS, while a four-semester programme is normally 120 ECTS.

This page deals with second-cycle study after a bachelor’s degree. It doesn’t treat a five or six year long-cycle course, an Executive MBA or postgraduate continuing education as the same product. The programme title can look similar in English while the qualification, student status and entry route are different. An experienced manager comparing executive study has a separate MBA in Poland decision to make.

Polish route Normal entry point Typical duration What it leads to
Second-cycle study A qualifying bachelor’s or equivalent degree 3 to 4 semesters Magister or equivalent master’s title
Long-cycle master’s School-leaving qualification 9 to 12 semesters A master’s-level professional title in fields such as medicine or law
Postgraduate education A completed higher-education qualification Programme-specific A partial qualification, not a second-cycle degree
Doctoral school Usually a master’s or equivalent qualification 6 to 8 semesters Doctoral training and the separate doctoral degree process

Will an Indian bachelor’s degree qualify for a master’s in Poland?

An Indian bachelor’s degree can qualify, but neither the degree length nor the percentage decides the result alone. The current rule asks whether the qualification gives access to master’s study in India. NAWA confirms that education right, then the university decides whether the degree is sufficiently related to its programme.

NAWA’s 2025 study of the Indian education system describes a general three-year BA, BSc or BCom with at least Second Class or Division and at least 55 per cent as giving master’s access in India. It also says an Indian first-cycle diploma that gives such access can lead to second-cycle study in Poland, with an individual NAWA statement mandatory in recruitment.

The 55 per cent description is not a national Polish admission cutoff. A data science, engineering, law or finance programme can ask for a related degree, named prior subjects, a higher academic result or an entrance test. A university can therefore reject the subject match even after NAWA confirms the level and access rights of the degree.

Remember that we require a Bachelor’s Degree in a similar field to the M.Sc. programme you apply for.

The transcript carries more weight than the degree title in that academic decision. A BTech in Mechanical Engineering and a BTech in Computer Science are both four-year Indian degrees, but they do not establish the same background for an informatics master’s. A three-year BSc with substantial mathematics and programming may fit one analytics course better than an unrelated four-year professional degree.

The official sources don’t publish a universal Indian-credit to ECTS conversion. Indian credits and ECTS measure study under different systems, so multiplying your credits by an invented number would create false precision. The admissions team reads the transcript, subject list and sometimes detailed syllabi against the programme’s own prerequisites.

Master’s application ready = home-country master’s access + NAWA individual statement + programme subject fit + accepted language evidence

This is a Nbyula planning check compiled from the official rules, not a formula used by NAWA. For example, an Indian BTech in Mechanical Engineering can clear the first two parts and still miss a computing prerequisite. The same degree may fit an AGH engineering route that accepts an engineering bachelor’s degree, subject to its entrance exam and ranking.

How strong is your current eligibility position?Green means the route is supported. Amber needs a programme decision. Red means the document does not establish second-cycle access.
Your current position What the evidence supports
Your degree gives master’s access in India, NAWA has issued the statement, and your transcript matches the named field. The main academic and recognition conditions are in place, subject to ranking and language evidence.
Your degree gives master’s access, but the programme only says a related field is required. NAWA can confirm access, while only the university can decide the subject relationship.
You have a Provisional Certificate and complete mark sheets, but the final diploma is pending. NAWA’s India study recognises the provisional route, while the university controls the final-document deadline.
You hold only an Indian Post Graduate Diploma and assume it equals a master’s degree. NAWA’s India study says the level varies and it has no automatic Polish master’s equivalent.

How do entry rules differ across named master’s programmes in Poland?

Entry rules differ by field, institution and even starting semester. The comparison below is not a ranking. It shows what a current applicant has to compare after NAWA recognition, using 2026/27 official programme and admissions pages across public technical, public comprehensive and non-public institutions.

Programme Duration Published academic condition Tuition Current round evidence
WUT Smart Environmental Planning and Design 4 semesters Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline EUR 1,800 per semester 11 May to 21 July 2026
AGH Energy and Environmental Engineering 4 semesters Engineering bachelor’s degree and entrance exam EUR 2,200 per semester January to February route, starting 1 March
AGH International Management 4 semesters BA or BEng and entrance exam EUR 3,500 per semester June to September route, starting 1 October
AGH Applied Geology 3 semesters BSc or BEng, no entrance exam on the current offer EUR 1,750 per semester January to February route, starting 1 March
Gdansk Tech Informatics 3 or 4 semesters Programme-specific entry requirements PLN 10,000 per semester Regular round closed 9 July 2026
Gdansk Tech International or Sustainability Management 4 semesters Programme choice order affects consideration PLN 10,750 per semester Regular round closed 9 July 2026
University of Wroclaw Theoretical Physics Programme-specific MA International admissions review EUR 3,200 in year one, EUR 3,000 in year two General round closed 31 August 2026
University of Wroclaw Medical Biotechnology Programme-specific MA International admissions review EUR 4,200 in year one, EUR 4,000 in year two Round closed 24 July 2026
SGH Finance and Accounting 4 semesters Graduate admission and accepted English evidence EUR 3,100 per semester in one payment Institution-specific 2026/27 calendar
Kozminski Finance and Accounting 2 years GPA and online test, at least 60 of 100 combined points Live PLN schedule, with a full year due before visa documents Admission ends 30 September 2026
Lazarski Project Management 2 years Admission documents and English evidence follow the live offer EUR 5,520 in year one, EUR 5,760 in year two Shown open on the current 2026 page

The AGH 2026/27 master’s offer is especially useful because it exposes variation inside one institution. Some programmes accept only an engineering bachelor’s degree, some accept either BA or BEng, and some use no entrance exam. A broad claim that Polish master’s admissions are easy or exam-free cannot survive that evidence.

Gdansk Tech adds a less obvious application rule. Its current English master’s offer lets a candidate choose more than one programme, but the preference order can stop later choices from being considered after qualification for the first choice.

The order of your choices is important.
Gdansk University of Technology

The fee is also an incomplete comparison unless the payment timing is known. Kozminski’s current admissions text says a student who needs a visa must pay the full first academic year’s tuition before the university issues the visa documents. A lower total fee elsewhere can still demand less cash before the visa stage.

Which NAWA and admission documents does an Indian master’s applicant need?

An Indian applicant needs separate document packs for NAWA recognition and university enrolment. An apostille is the Indian authentication used to present a document abroad. Treating the packs as one checklist causes unnecessary waiting because NAWA and the university do not apply the same apostille and translation rules.

For a higher-education diploma statement, the current NAWA instructions ask for the diploma, transcript or supplement, the preceding education documents, passport, and name-change proof where relevant. Files must be clear PDF or JPG scans, with each file no larger than 3 MB.

Applications are submitted fully electronically via the SYRENA System.
Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange

NAWA’s current statement instructions say English documents do not need translation for the SYRENA application and the service is free. The statement arrives as a digitally signed Polish PDF. KWALIFIKATOR gives general information about a qualification type, but its printout does not replace the individual statement tied to your diploma.

NAWA’s statement page says its application does not require apostille or legalisation. A Polish university can still require the apostilled original and an accepted translation for enrolment. The Polish Embassy’s India apostille page places the Indian apostille route with the Ministry of External Affairs rather than the Polish consul.

Document use Apostille position Translation position Decision made
NAWA statement through SYRENA Not required for this upload English originals need no translation Qualification level and education access
University application Initial scans follow the university’s current rule Polish or English evidence depends on the institution Academic ranking and conditional offer
University enrolment Can require an apostilled original Can require a certified or sworn translation Completion of admission
Poland study visa in India Indian educational documents follow the embassy checklist Visa checklist and university conditions both apply National visa decision

A Provisional Certificate is not automatically useless. NAWA’s India study expressly says the access conclusion can apply to an Indian Provisional Certificate because final degrees may be delayed. WUT permits a provisional diploma at the entry-document stage, but it requires the final diploma to complete admission. The two statements fit together rather than contradicting each other.

This creates a useful sequence. The SYRENA application can begin with the clear degree documents NAWA accepts while apostille work continues for university and visa use. Waiting for every later-stage document before starting NAWA loses time without improving the recognition application.

Is IELTS compulsory for a master’s in Poland?

IELTS is not compulsory at every university, but accepted B2-level language evidence is compulsory for the relevant foreign-document routes. B2 is the shared European language level used by these current admission rules. The exact proof changes by university, so an Indian medium-of-instruction letter is useful only where the current official list accepts it.

WUT’s M.Sc. route accepts proof that previous education was in English or one of its listed certificates. The current AGH document page accepts named tests and can accept a diploma or supplement that formally states the language of instruction. Its present IELTS minimum is 5.5.

Wroclaw Tech lists IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72 and PTE 59 among its accepted evidence for the current route. Kozminski Finance lists IELTS 6.5 and TOEFL iBT 87, alongside other certificates. These are institution examples, not a national score table.

Which English document is safe to budget for?Green has direct named support. Amber depends on the exact programme. Red relies on a broad assumption.
Your evidence How to treat it
Your score meets the named test and minimum on the current programme or admissions page. Use it for that programme and intake.
Your degree or supplement formally states English as the language of instruction. Use it only where the university’s current list accepts prior English-medium study.
You have a medium-of-instruction or MOI letter issued separately by your Indian college. The admissions office must accept that document type for the chosen programme.
A consultant says Poland does not require IELTS. The statement is too broad to support an application.

When should an Indian student apply for a 2027 master’s in Poland?

A 2027 applicant should begin recognition and programme matching before the 2027/28 calendar is released. The 2026 evidence shows that universities can open in February or May, while closing dates range from July to September. No source read for this page establishes a national 2027 deadline.

University of Wroclaw opened international applications on 2 February 2026. WUT opened on 11 May and closed new applications on 21 July. Gdansk Tech opened its regular winter-semester round on 26 May and closed on 9 July, with tuition due by 2 August. Kozminski’s current finance route closes on 30 September 2026.

The sequence below is a planning method, not a set of official 2027 dates. It keeps the slow and programme-specific parts moving without inventing a month that a university has not published.

Step What happens Evidence to have ready
1 Shortlist by subject fit, duration, language and total fee. Transcript, degree title, current programme page and fee order
2 Start the NAWA individual statement through SYRENA. Diploma or accepted provisional document, mark sheets and passport
3 Prepare English evidence and any entrance examination. The exact certificate list and current exam syllabus
4 Apply when the university opens its 2027/28 system. Initial admission scans and application-fee payment
5 Complete the final document and tuition conditions. NAWA statement, apostilled originals and translations where required
6 Use the issued admission documents for the India visa process. Current offer, payment evidence, accommodation, insurance and funds documents

NAWA doesn’t publish one guaranteed universal turnaround. WUT currently advises applicants that recognition may take 90 days or more, but that is the university’s planning warning, not a service promise from NAWA. Missing or incorrect documents can extend the process.

How much does a master’s in Poland cost for an Indian student?

Current named tuition runs from about EUR 1,750 per semester in the sampled AGH routes to much higher technical and private-university prices. The fee must be read with its currency, payment period and cohort because one institution quotes PLN per semester, another EUR per semester, and another EUR per academic year.

For 2026/27, Gdansk Tech lists many English master’s routes at PLN 9,000 to PLN 10,750 per semester. SGH lists EUR 3,100 per semester for English Finance and Accounting and EUR 2,400 for its other English graduate programmes when paid once. The University of Wroclaw fee table lists non-EU annual charges by programme, including EUR 3,200 in the first year of Theoretical Physics and EUR 4,200 in the first year of Medical Biotechnology.

Application charges sit outside tuition. The current WUT offer and AGH fee page generally use PLN 85 for a route without an entrance exam and PLN 100 where an exam applies. The University of Wroclaw fee table lists EUR 23 without an examination and EUR 27 with one for 2026/27.

The figures above are not 2027 prices. Tuition, dormitory costs, visa evidence and a realistic living budget answer different questions. The complete cost of studying and living in Poland should keep those amounts separate, while scholarships available to Indian students need a fresh call-level eligibility check.

How do you build a safe master’s shortlist for Poland?

A safe shortlist starts with academic fit and official status, then adds money, time and language. A ranking-only list can recommend an institution whose programme does not accept your degree field, starts in the wrong semester or requires more cash before the visa stage than your plan allows.

The official-record comparison of universities in Poland covers institution and programme verification. Within the master’s shortlist, each option should answer the same set of questions in writing.

  • Is this a second-cycle degree that awards magister or an equivalent master’s title?
  • Does the programme accept my exact bachelor’s field, and which transcript subjects prove the match?
  • Does my Indian qualification give master’s access at home, and is the NAWA statement required for this intake?
  • Which English document does the current university list accept from me?
  • Is there an entrance exam, interview, portfolio or preference-ranking rule?
  • What is the fee per semester or year, and how much is due before visa documents are issued?
  • When does the exact programme open, close and require final originals?
  • Is a February start really offered for this programme, or only elsewhere at the university?
  • Does the course structure fit the work and language market you intend to enter after graduation?

Four to six programmes with different admission risk usually make a more useful shortlist than ten similar names. One option can be ambitious on subject fit or selection score, two can closely match the transcript, and one or two can provide a safer academic and cash-flow position. The wider study in Poland decision then adds visa, residence and city considerations without changing the academic facts.

Key takeaways

  • A normal master’s in Poland is second-cycle study, usually 90 to 120 ECTS across 1.5 to 2 years.
  • An Indian degree must give master’s access in India, but the Polish university separately decides whether your previous subjects fit its programme.
  • The individual NAWA statement is required for the current Indian route, while KWALIFIKATOR provides only general qualification information.
  • SYRENA does not need an apostille for its upload, so recognition can begin while university and visa document preparation continues.
  • Current 2026/27 examples differ on exams, English proof, currency, payment timing and deadline. Every 2027 fact needs a fresh official check.

Frequently asked questions

Is a three-year Indian bachelor’s degree accepted in Poland?

It can be accepted when the qualification gives master’s access in India and the Polish programme accepts its subject background. NAWA’s 2025 India study describes qualifying three-year general degrees, but recognition does not guarantee admission. The university can still require related subjects, a higher result or an entrance test.

Is a NAWA statement mandatory for an Indian master’s applicant?

Yes, under the current India route described by NAWA, the Director’s individual statement is mandatory in second-cycle recruitment. Apply through SYRENA with the diploma, transcript, earlier education documents and passport. KWALIFIKATOR can explain a qualification type, but its general output does not replace the individual statement.

Can I use an Indian Provisional Certificate for Poland admission?

A Provisional Certificate can support the recognition stage because NAWA’s India study accounts for delayed final degrees. The university controls the later deadline for the final diploma. WUT, for example, permits a provisional document initially but requires the final degree to complete admission, so both dates matter.

Do I need an apostille before applying to NAWA?

No. NAWA says apostille or legalisation is not required for the recognition-statement upload. A university can still require an apostilled original for enrolment, and the Indian visa checklist has its own document conditions. Starting SYRENA while the apostille is being prepared can save useful time.

Can I study for a master’s in Poland without IELTS?

Possibly, if the university accepts another B2-level document for your programme. Some current institutions accept formal proof that the previous degree was taught in English, while others name tests and minimum scores. An Indian MOI letter is not a universal waiver, so the current accepted-document list decides.

Is there a February intake for master’s degrees in Poland?

There is a February or March start for selected programmes, not for every master’s degree. Current AGH and Gdansk Tech offers include summer-semester routes in specific fields. The programme page must show both the start and active round, because a university-wide February intake does not create a seat in every course.

How long does NAWA recognition take?

NAWA doesn’t publish one guaranteed universal processing period. Its guidance says complete applications are handled as quickly as possible, while missing documents cause delay. WUT currently warns applicants to plan for 90 days or more, but that is university planning advice rather than a binding NAWA service deadline.

Can I work while studying for a master’s in Poland?

Work permission depends on your legal stay and study status, not simply on the words master’s degree. Course timetables and Polish-language needs also affect whether a job is realistic. The current Poland student visa and residence route should be checked before treating work as part of the funding plan.
