Is CUHK Hong Kong the same application as CUHK-Shenzhen?
No. This page covers CUHK in Sha Tin. CUHK-Shenzhen is in Guangdong and uses its own international application platform, fee structure and Chinese Mainland immigration process. Do Indian students apply through JUPAS?
No. A non-local applicant who needs a Hong Kong student visa applies directly under CUHK’s international scheme. This includes Indian board, IB and A-level applicants. CUHK says its Office of Admissions and Financial Aid runs the only official undergraduate platform and has no recruitment-agency partnership for undergraduate admission. The official application page carries the portal.
Non-local applicants should submit their applications directly to the institutions concerned. Only one application is required for admission purposes.
What marks does CUHK require from Indian boards?
The live 2026 selector listed Standard X and Standard XII pass certificates from state or national boards, with an 80% average in all subjects. CUHK calls this a general minimum for guidance. It doesn’t promise an offer. The university separately considers the school record, programme conditions, achievements and any interview. The requirement page states both the figure and its limit.

CUHK also listed IELTS Academic 6.0 and TOEFL iBT 80 under the 2026 university-wide routes, with detailed test-format conditions. Its FAQ says some online tests may be submitted for programme reference but do not replace an accepted university English route. A student using Class XII English therefore needs the 80% mark shown by CUHK, not a generic medium-of-instruction assumption.
General minimum requirements are for guidance only. Satisfying requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission selection is competitive.
Which programme conditions can change the answer?
General and English eligibility do not settle admission to the selected degree. CUHK’s programme list carries subject notes, interviews, portfolios and additional statements. Architecture has portfolio guidance. Medicine used a separate statement and was excluded from the 2026 advance-offer round. CUHK’s official undergraduate material does not publish a complete international applicant total and offer total for this route. That means a reliable CUHK acceptance rate for Indian students cannot be calculated from the retained sources. A broad percentage from a third-party profile also cannot show the probability for one programme, qualification or cycle. The useful comparison is the student’s 80% general-minimum position, the programme’s subject rules and the strength of the complete file.
What must be ready before submission?
The 2026 guide asked for identity records, school reports from Grade 7 to the latest term, board or predicted results, English evidence and certified translations where needed. The personal statement was limited to 4,000 characters and had to explain the programme choices. CUHK allowed up to three referees and emailed them after the form and fee were submitted. CUHK recommended adding necessary evidence within 14 days after the 2026 form. Forthcoming results could be added later without a second application. Multiple forms could lead to disqualification, so updates belong inside the first application.

The dates page and application guide preserve a small conflict on advance notification timing, so the table shows both. A future applicant should not turn either into a 2027 promise. What stays useful is the order: advance round, regular round, result updates, offer conditions, document verification and registration.
What did CUHK charge in the 2026 cycle?
The international application fee was HK$500. An admitted student paid a HK$10,000 first instalment of composition fees by the individual offer deadline. Annual non-local tuition was HK$214,000 for 2026/27, with CUHK stating that annual adjustment for that cohort would be capped at 3%. CUHK publishes the tuition terms.
Admission scholarship consideration was automatic. The published range ran from HK$5,000 to full tuition, with some renewable awards and allowances of up to HK$66,000 a year. Automatic consideration doesn’t mean an award is automatic, so the safe family budget remains zero scholarship until CUHK names the amount and renewal terms in writing. Does CUHK provide first-year university housing?
For the 2026/27 intake, CUHK said international first-year students would receive a hostel place through their assigned College without a separate first-year hostel application. Its wider N-2 policy meant the normative study period minus two years of on-campus residence eligibility for international undergraduates who wanted it, with stated exceptions. A College preference was not guaranteed. College assignment considered preference, programme and admission score. Pre-term August housing could also need a separate arrangement. These points matter because a first-year hostel place doesn’t promise the preferred College or housing for every year.
When should a CUHK offer holder start the visa process?
CUHK tells international students to wait until the visa tab appears in the application portal. The university acts as sponsor, and the permit is specific to CUHK and the programme. CUHK advises planning for up to eight weeks after complete information is available, while the Immigration Department states a normal six-week process after all required documents arrive.
