HKUST had not published a 2027 undergraduate calendar by 10 August 2026. Dates, fees and scholarship tables below describe the 2026/27 cycle and show the sequence only. Which application route applies to an Indian student?
Students presenting an Indian board certificate, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or GCE A levels apply under International Qualifications. The qualification presented controls the requirement. Studying IB in India doesn’t turn an IB applicant into a Standard XII applicant. HKUST lists the direct international route, while JUPAS directs non-local applicants to the institutions.

The English distinction matters for state-board applicants. HKUST’s published 80% route names the All India Senior School Certificate and Indian School Certificate. A state-board student therefore needs another listed English qualification or written guidance from HKUST before relying on the school mark. The official English requirements also list IELTS, TOEFL and qualification-based alternatives.

Is 85% the HKUST Class XII minimum?

How should the two HKUST choices be used?
HKUST allows up to two choices and treats the first as the highest priority. School-based entry gives room to explore before selecting a major. Department-based entry commits earlier to an engineering department. Programme-based entry suits a student with a clear specialist goal and may carry a compulsory interview. Computing applicants should read this choice carefully. HKUST’s 2026 prospectus warned that entry from a broad school-based route into Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering and Microelectronics could be competitive because places were limited. The official international-qualifications page published those dates. The next cycle may change every one of them. A family can prepare the undated work now: programme choices, subject mapping, English proof, statement, school reports, predicted-grade contact and referee.
What does the HKUST portal require?
The application uses the English name shown on the identity document. It asks for a personal statement, school reports from Grade 10 onwards, available examination results, English proof and relevant achievement documents. The online guide placed a 6 MB total limit on supporting-document uploads and allowed later score or document updates. HKUST’s application guide explains the upload flow.
The academic reference and predicted grades are separate requests. HKUST emails the referee form after submission and recommends a response within two weeks. For current Indian High School Examination candidates, a career counsellor supplies predicted grades. The same teacher may handle both requests, but the two forms remain separate. Does every HKUST applicant receive an interview?
No. HKUST may interview selected applicants and usually contacts them by email. Its India page says most interviews for Indian applicants are electronic, with in-person interviews rare. Some named programmes make an interview compulsory, so the marker beside the chosen programme matters. HKUST’s India page explains the usual format.
An application can lead to a conditional offer. The offer letter states the academic conditions and reply date. Final Indian verification accepts a CBSE, CISCE or Indian state-board Class XII marks statement, followed by the university’s official document-verification process. Scans used during application do not replace that final step. HKUST publishes the final-document routes.
What must the family budget after an HKUST offer?
The 2026/27 application fee was HK$600 and annual non-local tuition was HK$215,000. The non-local acceptance deposit was HK$20,000, normally due within about two to three weeks. It counted towards tuition and was generally non-refundable, apart from the stated unmet-condition case. The acceptance guide explains the deposit treatment.
HKUST’s fee page paired 2026/27 tuition with hall fees labelled for fall 2025 entrants, so those housing figures aren’t a confirmed 2026/27 rate. The university also listed compulsory medical insurance of HK$620 for the 2026/27 academic year for non-local full-time degree-seeking students. HKUST publishes the insurance terms. Are Indian applicants considered automatically for scholarships?
Yes. HKUST says applicants using other qualifications are considered automatically for academic admission scholarships, with no separate application. Indian board applicants are assessed holistically rather than through a published percentage-to-award table. The stated maximum was full tuition plus a HK$60,000 annual allowance, renewable for the normal programme duration subject to satisfactory performance. HKUST publishes these terms.
IB and A-level applicants had separate fixed tables for 2026/27. Those figures belong to that cycle. The 85% India competitiveness reference is not a scholarship threshold, and the Global Learners Scholarship page does not publish a nationality list that proves Indian applicants are included.
When does the student visa process begin?
The visa stage begins after offer acceptance. HKUST’s visa FAQ asked full-time non-local undergraduates to send the package within 30 days of the offer letter and advised at least six to eight weeks for processing.
