PolyU had not published a 2027 undergraduate calendar by 10 August 2026. The dates, tuition and scholarships below describe the 2026 cycle. The most useful preparation now is qualification evidence, English proof, two genuine programme choices, any programme-specific uploads and family cash for an offer.
Which PolyU route applies to an Indian applicant?
A non-local student who needs a Hong Kong student visa applies through PolyU’s own International / Other Qualifications portal, not JUPAS. Indian board, IB and A-level applicants all use this international route, with the qualification selected inside the form. A Hong Kong permanent identity-card holder is directed to the local Non-JUPAS route instead. JUPAS explains the non-local rule, while PolyU explains the identity-card exception.
PolyU appears on the University Grants Committee’s funded-institution list and the Education Bureau’s degree-awarding institution list. Those system labels identify the institution, but they don’t replace the programme’s live admission rules.
Non-local applicants should submit their applications directly to the institutions concerned. PolyU applicants may select up to two programme choices.
Does PolyU require 80% overall in Indian Class XII?
No. PolyU’s India entrance row lists a pass certificate after Class XII from state and national boards. The 80% figure appears on the English-language page for English in AISSCE, ISC or HSC. An applicant can therefore meet the entrance qualification without having an 80% overall rule published by PolyU, but still needs one accepted English route and a suitable programme record.

PolyU also listed IELTS Academic 6.0 in one sitting and TOEFL iBT 80, with restrictions on online formats. Its FAQ says attendance at an English-medium school doesn’t by itself replace the published English evidence. The live English page controls the accepted formats.
Are PolyU’s listed school subjects mandatory?
Not automatically. PolyU labels the central list “Preferred Subjects”. Applied Mathematics and Finance names English and Mathematics. Mechanical Engineering names Physics and Mathematics. Physiotherapy names Biology and/or Physics. These are subject-fit signals unless the programme page or additional-document instruction makes a condition explicit. PolyU doesn’t publish one official Indian undergraduate acceptance rate or a universal competitive Class XII percentage. A percentage without the applicant group, programme, cycle and offer count won’t predict an individual result. The useful comparison is whether the qualification, English route, subject fit and required uploads are all present.
Before paying an offer fee, the programme title and operator can also be matched in the Hong Kong Qualifications Register. That confirms the registered qualification and validity period; it doesn’t judge whether the curriculum or PolyU application suits the student.
The complete Hong Kong study route connects programme choice to costs, entry permission and IANG. Applicants still choosing an institution can use the Hong Kong university comparison. The HKU, CUHK and HKUST routes remain separate.
How do PolyU’s two programme choices work?
One application can contain up to two choices. PolyU considers them simultaneously without a preference order, and either can produce an offer. Choices cannot be changed after submission. A student should therefore select two genuine fits rather than treating the second as a hidden backup. Only one PolyU offer can be accepted at a time. If a later PolyU programme offer is accepted, the initial fee already paid can transfer to that later accepted offer. This is useful when the two programmes release decisions at different times, but the portal and offer deadline still control each action.
What must the PolyU application contain?
The application requires qualification details, identity evidence and academic certificates or transcripts. A document outside English or Chinese needs an official English translation. The HK$500 application fee was non-refundable and non-transferable. PolyU’s guide warned that non-card payment methods could take five to seven days to update. An applicant under 18 on arrival has an extra post-offer requirement for parental consent and a local guardian in Hong Kong. PolyU publishes the under-18 process.
A personal statement and academic referee are not universal requirements for every PolyU route. Programme-specific instructions decide whether a statement, portfolio or interview appears. Predicted IB or A-level results can move through the academic-referee process, while a Class XII applicant with final results can upload the board evidence directly. This distinction prevents a student from waiting for a recommendation that the selected route never requests.

The 2026 key-date page is the dated source for this sequence. Other PolyU pages differed on the final no-offer signal, naming late June, mid-July or late July. None should be rolled forward into a 2027 forecast.
What happens after a PolyU offer?
The applicant opens “Accept My Offer” in the portal and pays the HK$20,000 initial fee by the debit-note deadline. A conditional offer also states the result or document conditions and their deadline. If an official result cannot arrive by that date, PolyU directs the student to contact the Academic Registry rather than assume extra time. The acceptance guide gives these steps.
Annual non-local tuition was HK$200,000 for 2026/27. The initial fee is part of the offer cash sequence, not another full tuition charge. A wider Hong Kong family budget covers housing, deposits and everyday spending.
Are PolyU scholarships automatic for Indian Class XII applicants?
Academic-entry scholarship consideration was automatic for 2026/27 applicants using qualifications other than A levels and IB, including Indian Class XII. The published maximum was renewable full tuition, an annual allowance up to HK$60,000 and a one-off exchange scholarship up to HK$30,000, subject to renewal terms. PolyU publishes the other-qualifications award.
The Special Talents Admission and Recognition Scheme, or STARS, works differently. It is an opt-in route for significant achievements in specified areas and asks for talent evidence and referees. Automatic academic consideration isn’t the same as a guaranteed award. The family budget remains zero scholarship until the written offer gives the amount and conditions.
Does PolyU guarantee first-year housing and when does the visa start?
PolyU’s policy normally gives eligible non-local entrants to a UGC-funded bachelor’s degree an opportunity for university-managed accommodation in the first year, subject to availability. It is not a guaranteed room. The dedicated hall page listed HK$18,514.80 for the 2026/27 residence period, plus first-stage deposits and fees. The hall policy states the availability limit.
After accepting the offer and paying the initial fee, PolyU asked the student to send the visa package within one month.
