France has a main autumn start and some programme-level January starts, but it doesn’t have one national application deadline for all international students. Your deadline comes from the route used by the exact programme. That may be the preliminary admission request (DAP), the national undergraduate Parcoursup platform, Études en France (EEF), the national first-year master’s Mon Master platform, a university portal, a school portal or a named common application.
An Indian student planning 2027 entry should map the route before using any calendar. The verified 2026/27 DAP, Parcoursup and Mon Master cycles can show the order of stages, but their dates are closed and cannot be moved forward by one year. On 6 August 2026, the national 2027 calendars for these routes were still pending.
Some schools had already published named 2027 dates. HEC Paris had live September 2027 Master in Management rounds, while INSEAD had live January and August 2027 MBA rounds. Those dates belong only to those programmes. They do not create a France-wide deadline.
A complete study in France plan separates a programme’s application deadline, the institution’s decision date, your acceptance or deposit deadline, the Campus France and EEF stages, and the later visa window.
How do France intakes work?
Most central public application routes organise entry for the autumn academic year. September is therefore the useful shorthand for the main intake, even though an individual course can start in August, September or October. January exists at some schools and programmes, especially in business education, but it isn’t a universal second season.
The word intake describes when teaching begins. It does not tell you where to apply or when the application closes. A September programme may close in December through one route and in spring through another. A January programme may have application rounds during the previous March to August. Always record the named programme, entry month, entry year and route together.
The application deadline controls when the correct academic portal opens and closes. Its reliable record comes from the current official programme or platform calendar and includes the named cycle and retrieval date.
The decision period tells you when a school or national platform expects to release results. The published decision phase supports planning, while a dated portal message is the evidence for an individual application.
The response deadline controls when you must accept, decline, pay a deposit or meet a condition. This date comes from your personal offer and its terms, so it can be earlier than another programme’s decision.
The pre-departure calendar covers EEF, the academic interview, France-Visas, housing and registration. Build it from the live instructions for your residence, offer and departure rather than treating the academic submission date as the end of the process.
A common mistake is to save only the application close date. An offer can expire while you are waiting for another result, and a deposit can become non-refundable before a scholarship decision. A comparison of all four deadline groups reveals when an apparently later intake carries an earlier financial commitment.
Which route controls your France application deadline?
An application date is useful only when it is attached to the right study target. The Campus France and EEF process may be one of several later steps. The following route status was checked on 6 August 2026, and every pending calendar needs a new check for the named 2027 cycle.
For first year at a public university after an Indian school-leaving qualification, begin with DAP through EEF. The 2027 dates were pending, so use the live ministry and EEF pages. First year at a French architecture school uses yellow DAP through EEF, whose 2027 form and language-test timetable were also pending.
For a selective undergraduate programme, the first route may be Parcoursup or the institution’s own route. National 2027 Parcoursup dates were pending, while the programme publishes any separate dates. Save the route named by the exact course instead of assuming that all undergraduate applications share one portal.
For a public-university master’s in M1 or M2, use the programme-specific EEF or institution source. Most 2027 dates were pending. Save the calendar attached to the programme’s instructions for applicants resident in India.
For a Grande École MiM or MSc, the first route is commonly a school portal or named common application. HEC MiM dates were live, but several peer schools still displayed pending or stale cycles. The named entry year must therefore appear beside every copied round.
For an MBA in France, use the school’s programme calendar. HEC and INSEAD had selected 2027 calendars live. For a national doctorate, use the doctoral-school or funding-call calendar because dates are local and were mostly pending.
Each source above controls a particular deadline. It does not prove that every Indian applicant submits there first. Separate tracker fields for the first application source and any later EEF action keep each deadline attached to the right stage.
How can you read the 2026/27 cycle without copying its dates?
The closed 2026/27 calendar is useful only for understanding the sequence and likely preparation lead time. Every date in the table below belongs to that named old cycle. None is a 2027 deadline, and adding one year would be an unsupported prediction.
Mon Master describes what its national platform can do. It doesn’t say that an India-based applicant should replace the residence-specific route named for the chosen programme.
La plateforme Mon Master permet de déposer vos candidatures pour l’accès en première année de master.Mon Master
| Route | Closed 2026/27 sequence and safe lesson for 2027 |
|---|---|
| Parcoursup main phase | The programme map opened 17 December 2025. Registration and wishes ran from 19 January to 12 March 2026. Candidates confirmed wishes by 1 April. Offers ran from 2 June to 11 July 2026. Discovery, submission, confirmation and offers are separate stages, so reopen the 2027 calendar. |
| Parcoursup complementary phase | The phase ran from 11 June to 10 September 2026. A later phase can exist, but available programmes change. Don’t plan on a place being listed. |
| DAP for first-year bachelor’s (L1) at a public university | The route opened 1 October 2025 and applications closed 15 December 2025. Universities replied by 30 April 2026 and students replied by 31 May. DAP starts early and has a student response stage, but the live 2027 cycle controls. |
| Yellow DAP for first-year architecture | The file was due 15 December 2025. The required French-language knowledge test, TCF, was due by 13 February 2026 unless exempt. Schools replied by 30 April and students by 31 May. A language-test step can fall before decisions, so the current form and exemption rules control. |
| Mon Master | The account and catalogue opened 2 February 2026. Official pages disagreed on whether applications closed 16 or 17 March. Review began 21 March. Main offers ran from 3 to 16 June and the complementary phase from 19 June to 19 July. An India resident usually applies through EEF, so recheck the 2027 route and calendar. |
| CampusArt | The art and design school network application platform ran its named 2026/27 calendar from 1 October 2025 to 28 February 2026. Use the live CampusArt and exact programme instructions for the academic route, followed by any applicable EEF work. |
The Mon Master one-day conflict is a useful safety test. The official HTML calendar displayed 17 March 2026, while the linked official short-calendar PDF and Campus France displayed 16 March. A student couldn’t safely know that the later date would prevail.
When current official sources disagree, the safer submission point is before the earliest official cutoff, with the receipt and live platform notice retained. Written clarification from the programme or platform can establish whether the difference changes eligibility. The convenient date has no evidential priority, and neither 2026 date belongs in a 2027 plan.
Are September and January both France intakes?
September is the main planning season because national public routes and many school programmes lead into the autumn academic year. A January intake in France is real for selected programmes, but it is a programme-level option rather than a national second intake.
| Question | Main autumn start | January start |
|---|---|---|
| Where is it common? | Public universities, grandes écoles, business schools and many specialised programmes | Selected business-school and private programmes, with occasional specialised options |
| Is there one national list? | No single list covers every route, though national platforms cover defined study levels | No national January catalogue covers all institutions |
| When can applications close? | From the previous autumn through spring, depending on the route and round | Often several months before January, sometimes beginning in the previous spring |
| Is admission easier? | No. Selectivity comes from the programme and applicant pool | No. Fewer programmes do not imply easier selection |
| What should you verify? | Exact start month, route, award, language, fees, response terms and visa lead time | The same points, plus whether January affects internships, electives, graduation timing or housing |
Search the exact award, not only the intake label. A programme advertised as a January start can award a school diploma, a professionally registered qualification, a national master’s degree or another credential. Its French degree and label recognition, curriculum and total fee determine whether it is comparable with an autumn option.
A later start isn’t automatically safer for a visa or cheaper for housing. It simply shifts the calendar. The France-Visas India page says a long-stay application should be submitted one month before departure and cannot be lodged more than six months before departure. Appointment availability still varies with demand.
For long-stay visas, you must submit your application 1 month prior to your scheduled departure.France-Visas
That is a filing rule, not a recommendation to wait until the last month. Academic admission and the applicable EEF work must be ready first. The plan also needs more time for appointment availability, document corrections, funding evidence and travel arrangements.
Which France intake deadlines are already live for 2027?
HEC Paris and INSEAD had published named 2027 school calendars by 6 August 2026. The dates below apply only to the stated programme, route and intake. Recheck the official page before paying or submitting because schools can update a calendar.
| Programme and intake | Published application deadlines | Route condition |
|---|---|---|
| HEC Paris MiM, September 2027, direct route | 7 October 2026, 26 November 2026, 17 February 2027 and 26 April 2027 | Apply through HEC directly and complete every required document before the chosen round closes. |
| HEC Paris MiM, September 2027, Join a School in France route | 2 October 2026, 7 January 2027, 26 February 2027 and 19 April 2027 | Use the named common route. HEC says an applicant cannot use both routes for this intake. |
| INSEAD MBA, January 2027 | 17 March, 21 April, 30 June and 25 August 2026 | These four dates belong to the January 2027 MBA intake only. |
| INSEAD MBA, August 2027 | 15 September and 3 November 2026, followed by 19 January and 9 March 2027 | These four dates belong to the August 2027 MBA intake only. |
HEC’s two MiM paths also show why route choice belongs beside the deadline. A direct application and a Join a School in France application are not two chances for the same September 2027 intake.
if you apply directly to HEC, you cannot apply through Join a School in France, and vice versa.HEC Paris
HEC also published January and September 2027 MBA deadline tables. The live HEC MBA calendar is the current source for the selected intake; a copied rolling table can become stale months in advance.
A 2026 page or an undated third-party chart does not support an inference about 2027 dates for ESSEC, ESCP, EDHEC, emlyon or another school. On 6 August 2026, several other schools still showed old or mixed-cycle dates. “Applications open” is useful only when the same page clearly names your programme and entry year.
When should an Indian student prepare for September 2027?
A broad autumn 2027 shortlist requires preparation to begin in August or September 2026. This is a task calendar, not an unofficial deadline forecast. It brings forward work that doesn’t depend on a published date and leaves each submission tied to its live route.
| Planning period | Work to complete and why it belongs here |
|---|---|
| August to September 2026 | Fix the study level and award. Map every programme to its first portal. Collect transcripts, degree or school records, grading evidence and syllabus. Choose language or management tests. Some school rounds begin in autumn, while document and test preparation can take weeks. |
| September to December 2026 | Watch the DAP, EEF and programme openings. Submit only live early rounds. Request recommendations and begin translations where required. Named 2027 school rounds are already live, while national calendars may publish during this period. |
| January to March 2027 | Submit each programme before its own live cutoff. Complete essays and test reports, and meet any France scholarship deadlines. Several routes used this period in the old cycle, but there is no one national closing date. |
| After each offer | Record the response date, conditions, deposit, refund terms and withdrawal rule. Compare funding and pending decisions before committing. The response deadline is separate from the application close and decision date. |
| After final acceptance | Complete the applicable EEF “I am accepted” file, correction, payment and academic interview stages. A direct school or university offer can still require EEF work before France-Visas. |
| Up to six months before departure | Begin the France student visa application when the academic and EEF stages permit. Use the personalised France-Visas checklist. The India filing window opens no more than six months before departure, while appointment demand can vary. |
| Before registration | Confirm final tuition treatment, accommodation and the live student-life contribution (CVEC) requirement. Meet any remaining offer conditions. The 2027/28 fee and CVEC figures were pending on 6 August 2026. |
Language evidence should sit on the same plan. The exact programme determines whether French, English or both are required, and its application deadline combines with the score-release time for the relevant French language test or certificate to set the testing schedule.
Scholarship timing can precede admission or depend on institutional nomination. Add the funding deadline separately instead of assuming it closes with the programme. If an award result comes after a school deposit, record how much cash must be available and whether the deposit is refundable.
How do you track several French application deadlines?
One row per exact programme and entry year keeps unlike routes separate. Grouping all master’s options under one France deadline conceals their individual calendars. A retrieval date beside every official link shows when its calendar was last checked.
The programme and entry year come first. The row records the exact title, L1, M1, M2, MiM, MBA or doctorate, the start month and 2027 entry. This keeps routes for different levels or start dates distinct.
Attach the award evidence. State whether the qualification is a national degree, a professionally registered title or a business-school programme with an official approval or label. Save the French degree or label evidence so the school brand does not replace the qualification check.
Name the first portal. The first portal may be DAP, EEF, Parcoursup, a university, a school or a consortium. Establishing it before submission prevents a duplicate or wrong-route file and keeps later Campus France work separate from the academic application.
Open and close dates need their context. The record includes the current official page, named cycle, time zone and retrieval date. These details expose a stale deadline or a missed noon cutoff.
Add the decision and response stages. The tracker includes the expected offer phase, personal response date and conditions. An offer should not expire because the tracker showed only the application close.
Capture the application fee and deposit. Write down the amount, due date, refund and withdrawal terms before accepting a non-refundable commitment or an unexpected early cash need.
Track EEF status separately. Mark the applying or accepted path, file review, payment and interview. Direct admission does not necessarily mean that Campus France work has ended.
Add every funding deadline. The record shows whether the student applies or the institution nominates, which offer is required and when the result appears. Funding can close before the programme application, so it needs its own dated evidence.
Take academic details from the named programme page. The application platform supplies submission dates and messages, Campus France India supplies the local EEF procedure, and France-Visas supplies visa instructions. If two sources describe different stages, they may both be correct.
If two current sources genuinely conflict, the prudent record contains both pages, the earlier cutoff and the responsible office’s written answer. The response belongs with the application receipt. An aggregator can help you discover a programme, but it should never be the final evidence for a deadline, route, fee or deposit.
- Check each official calendar weekly while new dates are due to appear, then check more often near a live deadline.
- Record all times in the source time zone and add the Indian time separately.
- Submit before the final day so a payment, upload or reference problem can be corrected.
- After submission, confirm that the portal marks the file complete and retain the receipt.
- After an offer, replace the general calendar with the personal response and deposit terms.
- After acceptance, move the same row into EEF, visa, accommodation and registration work.
- France’s main academic start is in autumn, while January entry exists only for selected programmes.
- There is no single France application deadline. The exact programme and route control the calendar.
- India’s EEF status doesn’t prove that every academic application begins in EEF.
- Every 2026/27 national date on this page is a closed-cycle planning reference, not a 2027 deadline.
- HEC MiM and INSEAD MBA published named 2027 rounds, but those dates don’t apply to other schools.
- Track application, decision, response, deposit, EEF, funding and visa work as separate deadlines and stages.
Frequently asked questions about France intakes
How many intakes are there in France for international students?
France has a main autumn start and selected programme-level starts at other times, including January. It doesn’t have two universal national intakes covering every institution. Count the available starts for your exact programme, award and entry year, then use that programme’s application route and calendar.
Is September the main intake in France?
Yes, September is the main planning label because the national public routes and many school programmes lead into the autumn academic year. An exact course may begin in August, September or October. Verify the programme start date instead of assuming every autumn course begins on the same day.
Does France have a January intake?
Yes, selected programmes offer January entry, particularly in business education. INSEAD’s January 2027 MBA calendar is one verified example. There is no national January catalogue or common deadline, so verify the exact award, route, closing date, internship sequence, total fee and visa lead time.
When should an Indian student apply for September 2027?
Begin the shortlist, route mapping, records and test planning by August or September 2026. Submit only against each programme’s live 2027 deadline. Some school rounds begin in autumn, while the 2027 DAP, Parcoursup and Mon Master calendars were still pending on 6 August 2026.
Do Indian students apply through Mon Master?
An India resident normally follows Études en France under Mon Master’s current foreign-student guidance, even when Mon Master helps identify a nationally accredited M1. The exact university programme can specify EEF or another first portal. Don’t misstate residence or create a duplicate application to enter the ordinary national route.
What is the DAP deadline for 2027?
The verified 2027 DAP calendar was not published on 6 August 2026. The 15 December 2025 deadline shown in the closed 2026/27 cycle is not a 2027 deadline. Use it only as evidence that DAP preparation starts early, then reopen the ministry and EEF pages for the live cycle.
Can I apply directly to a French university instead of EEF?
Sometimes the academic application begins on a university portal. Paris-Saclay currently uses its INCEPTION application portal first for relevant EEF-country master’s applicants, followed by EEF after admission. Other programmes use EEF as the academic route. Follow the exact programme’s current India-resident instructions and keep the later Campus France stage visible.
When should I begin the France student visa process?
Begin France-Visas after the required academic and EEF stages permit it. In India, a long-stay application should be submitted one month before departure and cannot be lodged more than six months before departure. Start document preparation earlier because EEF review, corrections and appointment availability can add time.
