What is the FSU Master of Public Health?
FSU’s Master of Public Health is a two-year, 42 credit hour degree in Tallahassee with one concentration, health policy. It’s CEPH-accredited, classroom-based and open to any bachelor’s major. At USD 1,281.77 per credit hour for Fall 2027, the full two years cost about INR 111.33 lakh with living, insurance and visa fees.
The degree is built around ten core courses in epidemiology, statistics, environmental health, health behaviour, health finance and health policy, a 50-hour applied practice placement, and nine credits of electives you pick from any graduate course at FSU. This page is written for Fall 2027 entry. FSU hasn’t yet published its Fall 2027 I-20 funds table or its 2027-28 health insurance premium, so those two figures use the 2026 versions. CEPH’s list shows the programme’s current accreditation term running to 31 December 2026. Under CEPH’s rules accreditation continues past that date once a re-accreditation visit has happened, so look at the list again in early 2027.
How much does the FSU MPH cost an Indian student in total?
Plan for about INR 111.33 lakh, or USD 116,298, for the full two years. The popular idea that a public university in Florida is cheap doesn’t hold for an F-1 student, who pays the out-of-state rate of USD 1,281.77 on all 42 credits and spends 21 months in Tallahassee.
| Item | INR | Local currency | When it is due |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuition and fees, 42 credits | INR 51.63 lakh | USD 53,934.34 | Each semester, four semesters |
| Living, 21 months | INR 51.16 lakh | USD 53,445 | Monthly, Aug 2027 to Apr 2029 |
| Books and supplies | INR 2.64 lakh | USD 2,760 | Each semester |
| Health insurance, two years | INR 5.36 lakh | USD 5,594 | Billed August 2027 and 2028 |
| Application, SEVIS and visa fees | INR 54,000 | USD 565 | Before you fly |
| Total, two years | INR 111.33 lakh | USD 116,298.34 | Full programme |
The I-20 needs proof of USD 49,944 (about INR 47.81 lakh) on FSU's 2026 table. That's money you show, not an extra cost. The law sets a USD 250 visa integrity fee at visa issue, but we couldn't confirm it's being collected, so it's left out of the total. Converted at INR 95.7310 per USD, the FBIL reference rate for 23 September 2026 shown by the RBI. Flights and the USD 250 visa integrity fee are not included.
Tuition is 42 x USD 1,281.77 = USD 53,834.34, plus the USD 20 facility fee and the USD 5 FSUCard fee in each of four semesters. The Fall 2027 rate comes from FSU’s fee increase approved by its Board of Trustees on 28 August 2026. FSU’s I-20 office asks students to allow for possible 15% yearly rises, so treat the second-year tuition here as a floor.
Living uses FSU’s own 2026-27 off-campus graduate budget of USD 22,906 for nine months, which works out to USD 2,545 a month. We count every month from August 2027 to April 2029, summer included, because spring finals at FSU end in late April. Health insurance is not optional. From 2026-27 every F-1 student is enrolled in FSU’s plan at USD 2,797 a year and can’t waive it.
There is a faster route that FSU itself describes. Three semesters of 12 credits plus six credits in a summer finishes by December 2028, which cuts about four months of living, roughly USD 10,180 or INR 9.75 lakh. It needs 12-credit terms and careful sequencing, since Healthcare Finance runs only in Fall and Healthcare Management only in Spring.
Can an Indian graduate get into the FSU MPH?
Yes, if your degree is comparable to a US bachelor’s and your last two years average 3.0 out of 4.0. Any major qualifies, and the international checklist doesn’t ask for the GRE. The course-by-course evaluation, not the programme, decides whether your Indian marks and degree length pass.
| Requirement | Published rule | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor's degree (India) | Comparable to a US bachelor's; three-year degrees are not addressed | Get a NACES evaluation before paying the fee |
| Upper-division GPA (India) | 3.0 on 4.0, from the term you reach 60 credits | Ask the evaluator to calculate this figure |
| Subject background | No prerequisite courses, any major | Show health-related work or volunteering in your resume |
| Statistics course | B or better within five years can exempt the first statistics course | Request written approval in your first semester |
| Credential evaluation (India) | Course-by-course NACES evaluation, cannot be waived | Order it from SpanTran or another NACES member |
| English test (India) | IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 55 | Book the test to report before 15 January |
| GRE | Not in the 2026-27 materials list | Skip it and spend the time on your statement |
| Statement and resume | Two pages each, three set prompts | Answer why FSU and your career plan directly |
| Letters | Two, one academic if you graduated within three years | Give referees your deadline a month early |
| Application fee | USD 30, not waivable | Pay it with the application |
| I-20 funds (India) | USD 49,944 on FSU's 2026 table | Arrange bank letters dated within six months |
| Deadline | 15 January for Fall, 15 July for Spring, no Summer entry | Treat 15 January as final for Fall 2027 |
The MPH is one of the few FSU master’s with no subject bar at all. The FAQ says there is no preferred bachelor’s field, and FSU’s alumni stories include a mathematics graduate who later became a pathologist. For an Indian applicant that opens the door to BSc, BPharm, BDS, nursing, social science and engineering graduates alike.
What the committee reads closely is the statement of purpose. It’s two pages, double-spaced, and must answer three prompts, including why FSU’s programme specifically. The programme says it judges grammar, spelling and tone, and that it reviews files as a whole, so a GPA slightly under 3.0 can be explained there.
Six rules in FSU's own pages that trip up Indian MPH applicants
Use the 15 January deadline, not 1 July
The MPH has two admissions pages. The domestic one says Fall closes on 1 July, and the 2024-25 Graduate Bulletin still tells international applicants that 1 April is only an early date. The international page is the one that applies to you.“Final Deadline Fall Semester January 15 Spring Semester July 15”FSU Public Health, international applicants
Miss 15 January and your next chance is Spring 2028 entry with a 15 July deadline, which is a full term later.
Let the evaluation settle a three-year degree before you pay
No FSU page says whether a three-year Indian BSc, BCom or BA counts as comparable to a US bachelor’s. FSU asks for a comparable degree and a course-by-course evaluation, and the evaluation decides.“An official course-by-course evaluation is required for all academic records from non-U.S. institutions. Florida State University recommends the use of SpanTran for the credential evaluation because SpanTran will calculate the upper-division GPA”FSU General Bulletin 2026-27, graduate admission
A four-year BE, BTech, BPharm, MBBS or BDS is the safe case. On a three-year degree, get the evaluation first and email the programme with it before you spend the USD 30. FSU also publishes no percentage-to-GPA table for Indian marks, so the evaluator’s upper-division figure, not your CGPA, is what the 3.0 rule is read against.
Ignore the GRE, 43 credits and 200 hours in the old bulletin
The registrar’s 2024-25 Graduate Bulletin still describes a different MPH. It asks for GRE scores at the 50th percentile, a 43-credit degree with a one-credit proseminar and a 200-hour internship. The 2026-27 programme page and handbook say 42 credits and a 50-hour placement, and the international checklist has no GRE. Pages that copied the old bulletin will tell you to sit a GRE you don’t need. The current 2026-27 MPH handbook is the document that governs your degree.
Conditional admission buys you a semester of English, at your cost
If your IELTS is short of 6.5, the programme can still admit you on condition that you study at FSU’s English centre first.“Study at the Center for Intensive English Studies (CIES) for two 7-week sessions (1 semester) and cover the costs of attendance.”FSU Public Health, international applicants
CIES charges USD 2,600 a session, so that’s USD 5,200 plus about four months of Tallahassee living before your MPH starts. Retaking the test in India is usually far cheaper.
Your placement can't start in year one, and it needs CPT
The 50-hour Applied Practice Experience can’t be waived, and an off-campus placement counts as training for an F-1 student.“students are not eligible for CPT in their first academic year (Fall and Spring or Spring and Fall).”FSU Center for Global Engagement, CPT
The programme plans the placement for after your first year anyway. Before you can enrol in it you also need the first three Career Preparation milestones, including 16 hours of health-related community service, so start those in your first semester.
An English-medium Indian degree doesn't waive the test
FSU waives the English test only for degrees from the US or countries on its exempt list, and India isn’t on that list. The programme page quotes TOEFL iBT 80, but TOEFL moved to a new scale on 21 January 2026, and the Graduate School asks for 4.0 on that scale. Duolingo isn’t on the programme’s list at all, so ask the programme in writing before you book it.
How do you apply for the FSU MPH for Fall 2027?
Four hand-overs sit between you and a decision, and two of them are outside FSU. Your university must send transcripts to the evaluator, and the test body must send scores. Work backwards from 15 January 2027, because FSU says transcripts take six to eight weeks to reach your file.
You apply on FSU's graduate application and pay USD 30. Your Indian university sends transcripts to SpanTran or another NACES evaluator, which reports to FSU. The test body sends your English score, your two referees upload letters through the portal, and the programme decides, usually in two to three weeks once the file is complete. After admission, FSU's Center for Global Engagement issues the I-20.
| Start by | Task | Takes | Why this date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 Nov 2026 | Order the NACES evaluation | 56 days | FSU says transcripts can take six to eight weeks to be added. |
| 01 Dec 2026 | Sit IELTS, TOEFL or PTE | 45 days | Preparation, a test date and score delivery to FSU. |
| 20 Dec 2026 | Write statement and resume | 21 days | Two pages each, answering all three prompts. |
| 20 Dec 2026 | Brief two referees | 21 days | At least one academic if you graduated in the last three years. |
| 10 Jan 2027 | Submit and pay USD 30 | 5 days | Review starts only after the fee is paid. |
The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by Florida State University.
The programme reviews on a rolling basis, so an early complete file gets an early answer. That matters more than it seems. Every applicant is considered for the limited assistantships and for the Robert Sharpe Scholarship at the point of admission, with no separate form.
After the offer, FSU asks for bank letters dated within six months, then the I-20, the USD 350 SEVIS fee and the visa interview. Attendance at the MPH orientation is mandatory, so book flights for the orientation date, not the first class.
What jobs and pay can an FSU MPH graduate expect?
FSU publishes no placement rate or salary for this MPH. What exists is federal pay data by occupation, which shows a US epidemiologist earning a USD 87,220 median in 2025, and immigration rules that give this degree 12 months of work permission, not 36.
| Measure | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| FSU MPH placement rate | Not published | Checked the programme, alumni, FAQ and placement pages on 24 Sep 2026. |
| Epidemiologist, US median | USD 87,220 | BLS, 2025. Entry usually needs a master's; 55% of jobs are state or local government. |
| Health services manager | USD 123,860 | BLS, 2025 median. Usually needs earlier hospital admin or clinical experience. |
| Health education specialist | USD 64,070 | BLS, May 2025 median. |
| OPT after graduation | 12 months | CIP 51.2201 is not on the DHS STEM list, so no 24-month extension. |
| H-1B cap | Master's cap | 20,000 extra places for US master's. Universities and nonprofit research bodies are cap-exempt. |
| Federal jobs | Mostly citizens | OPM says you generally must be a US citizen or national. |
The pay figures describe US occupations, not FSU graduates, and nothing here is an FSU placement figure.
FSU’s own evidence is a set of alumni profiles, not data. They include an epidemiologist and biostatistician at the Jaeb Center for Health Research, the chief of staff to Florida’s State Surgeon General and a senior health informatics analyst at Equity Healthcare. The programme page also says the BLS puts MPH graduate pay at USD 73,000. We found no BLS table that reports pay by degree, so we don’t use that figure.
The placement list tells you where the network is. Past students worked with the Florida Department of Health, county health departments, the Agency for Health Care Administration and the CDC. Those are good placements, but the permanent jobs behind most of them favour US citizens, so plan your electives toward roles a university, hospital or research nonprofit can sponsor.
The H-1B cap is where 12 months of OPT hurts. You get roughly one lottery season before OPT ends, unless you join a university or its affiliated nonprofit, which USCIS exempts from the cap. The USD 100,000 H-1B payment is blocked by a court order as of September 2026 and doesn’t apply to a granted change of status inside the US, but DHS says it will collect it if the order is lifted. A separate DHS proposal from August 2026 would charge USD 103,265 on every cap-subject petition, including those filed from inside the US, and it isn’t law yet.
Where does Florida State University rank?
These are university-wide positions, not rankings of the MPH, and none of them affects admission. We didn’t find a public health subject position for FSU from QS, THE or US News to set above them, so treat the table as background only.
Who should apply to the FSU MPH, and who shouldn't?
It fits an Indian graduate who wants to work on health policy, programmes or data in the US and can pay without a stipend. It doesn’t fit anyone who needs STEM OPT, a funded seat or a clinical licence, and the table below says why.
| Verdict | Your background | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Strong fit | Graduate with NGO, CSR or hospital admin experience, aiming at US health policy | The single concentration, the policy capstone and the legislative placements are built for this. |
| Strong fit | BPharm, BDS or MBBS graduate moving into health systems work | Any major is accepted and the core covers finance, management and policy analysis. |
| Needs evidence | Three-year BSc or BCom graduate | FSU is silent on three-year degrees, so the evaluation has to show comparability first. |
| Needs evidence | Applicant who wants to be an epidemiologist | Possible through electives and the 12-credit epidemiology certificate, but the degree itself is policy-led. |
| Do not shortlist | Anyone counting on STEM OPT to repay a loan | CIP 51.2201 is not STEM, so you get 12 months of OPT and one realistic H-1B lottery. |
| Do not shortlist | Anyone who can't fund INR 1.1 crore without help | Assistantships are limited, clerical or teaching support, and renewed only semester by semester. |
The honest test is what you want to be doing in 2030. If it’s analysing a state Medicaid change or running a hospital programme in the US, the curriculum points straight at it. If it’s clinical practice, note that an MPH gives you no US licence to practise anything.
Returning to India is a reasonable plan too, since public health consulting, CSR foundations and global health nonprofits hire MPHs. The policy courses are US-focused, though, including federalism and US insurance options, so an India-first career gets less from the syllabus than from the placement and the statistics.
What will you study in the FSU MPH?
Ten core courses, one placement course and nine elective credits make up the 42. FSU fixes the order at both ends, with health services policy in your first semester and the policy capstone in your last one or two, so the flexibility sits in the electives.
| Code | Component | Credit hours | Where it sits |
|---|---|---|---|
| PHC 5155 | Health Services Organization and Policy | 3 | Year 1, first semester |
| PHC 5300 | Environmental Health | 3 | Year 1 |
| PHC 5475 or URP 5525 | Health Behavior | 3 | Year 1 |
| PHC 5001 or URP 5521 | Public Health Epidemiology | 3 | Year 1 |
| ECP 5538, PAD 5701 or URP 5211 | Health policy or planning statistics | 3 | Year 1, exemptible |
| PHC 5945 | Applied Practice Experience | 3 | Year 2, 50 hours |
| PHC 6110 | Comparative Health | 3 | Year 2 |
| PAD 5216 | Healthcare Finance | 3 | Year 2, Fall only |
| PAD 5884 | Healthcare Management | 3 | Year 2, Spring only |
| PHC 5797 | Advanced Public Health Statistics and Data Analysis | 3 | Year 2 |
| PHC 5151 | Health Politics and Policy Analysis, capstone | 3 | Last one or two semesters |
| Any 5000 or 6000 level | Graduate electives | 9 | 12 if statistics is exempted |
| Total | 42 |
- The statistics exemption swaps a core course for an extra elective, so the total stays at 42
- The placement needs the policy, epidemiology and statistics courses first, plus three Career Preparation milestones
- A 3.0 graduate GPA is needed to graduate, and only one further term of probation is allowed
The electives are the part worth planning before you land. FSU’s 12-credit epidemiology certificate counts toward them, which is the cleanest way to leave with a quantitative edge on a policy degree. The programme also runs special topics in maternal and child health, programme evaluation and public health leadership.
Should an Indian student shortlist the FSU MPH?
Shortlist it if you want a US health policy career and can fund close to INR 1.1 crore without an assistantship, and only then. Admission itself is open, since FSU asks for no prerequisite courses and no GRE, so the money and the 15 January deadline decide most Indian files.
What you get is a CEPH-accredited MPH with a real policy slant. The capstone is health politics and policy analysis, past placements include bill analysis for the Florida legislature and county health data work, and the electives are free enough to add FSU's 12-credit epidemiology certificate. What it costs you is time. It runs four semesters where a one-year business master's at FSU runs three, so living and insurance nearly match the tuition bill.
Two things are genuinely hard here. The degree isn't STEM, so you get 12 months of OPT and no 24-month extension, which gives you one realistic H-1B lottery attempt before your work permission ends. And the jobs this degree points to sit mostly in government. State and local government employ 55% of US epidemiologists, and federal jobs such as the CDC generally need US citizenship, so an Indian graduate's practical market is universities, hospitals, nonprofits and private health firms. If you need STEM OPT to make the loan pay back, choose a different programme.

- The FSU MPH is 42 credit hours over two years, with one concentration in health policy and a 50-hour placement that can't be waived.
- Two years cost about INR 111.33 lakh (USD 116,298.34) at the Fall 2027 rate of USD 1,281.77 per credit hour, including 21 months of living.
- International applicants must apply by 15 January for Fall 2027 or 15 July for Spring 2028, and there's no Summer entry.
- FSU asks for no GRE and no prerequisite courses, but a 3.0 upper-division GPA and IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80.
- The degree's CIP code, 51.2201, is not on the DHS STEM list, so graduates get 12 months of OPT and no extension.
Frequently asked questions
What is the total cost of the MPH at Florida State University for Indian students?
About INR 111.33 lakh, or USD 116,298, for two years. That covers 42 credits at USD 1,281.77 each, semester fees, 21 months of living at FSU's USD 2,545 monthly estimate, books, two years of mandatory insurance and application, SEVIS and visa fees, converted at INR 95.7310 per USD on 23 September 2026.
Is GRE required for the FSU MPH?
No. The 2026-27 international checklist for the FSU MPH asks for a statement of purpose, resume, two letters, a course-by-course evaluation and an English score, with no GRE. An older 2024-25 bulletin asked for GRE scores at the 50th percentile, which is why some sites still list it.
What is the last date to apply for the FSU MPH for Fall 2027?
15 January 2027 is the final Fall deadline for international applicants. The 1 July date on the domestic page doesn't apply to you. Spring 2028 entry closes on 15 July 2027, and the programme doesn't admit in Summer. Admissions are rolling, so an earlier complete file gets an earlier decision.
Can I apply to the FSU MPH with a three-year Indian degree?
FSU doesn't say either way. It needs a degree comparable to a US bachelor's and a course-by-course NACES evaluation, and that evaluation decides. A four-year degree such as BPharm, BDS or BTech is the safe case. With a three-year degree, get the evaluation first and check with the programme before paying.
Is the FSU Master of Public Health a STEM degree?
No. FSU reports the programme under CIP code 51.2201, Public Health, and that code isn't on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List dated 22 July 2024. You get 12 months of OPT after graduating and no 24-month STEM extension, unlike most FSU science and engineering master's.
Does the FSU MPH offer scholarships or assistantships to international students?
Every admitted applicant is considered for a limited number of assistantships and the Robert Sharpe Scholarship, with no separate form. Assistantships are clerical or teaching support, reviewed each semester, and not guaranteed to continue. Two further scholarships of USD 1,000 each open only after you enrol. Plan to pay yourself.
What IELTS score does the FSU MPH need?
IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80 or PTE 55. An English-medium Indian degree doesn't exempt you. If your score is short, the programme can offer conditional admission with a semester at FSU's English centre, which costs USD 2,600 per seven-week session plus living.
