What is the FSU Accelerated Full-Time MBA, and what does the year cost?

The Accelerated Full-Time MBA is Florida State University’s one-year, on-campus MBA, run by the Herbert Wertheim College of Business in Tallahassee. It’s 39 credit hours over fall, spring and summer, open to graduates of any subject. Fall 2027 entrants pay USD 1,281.77 a credit hour, and the full year comes to about INR 82.36 lakh.

The course is 30 credits of core business subjects plus 9 credits of electives, which most students take as one specialisation such as real estate, supply chain, marketing or HR. This page covers the fall 2027 intake, the only one this format offers each year. FSU hadn’t published its fall 2027 I-20 funding table or 2027-28 insurance premiums when we checked on 24 September 2026, so those two figures come from the 2026 tables.

How much does the FSU MBA cost an Indian student in total?

Plan for about INR 82.36 lakh, or USD 86,031, for the whole year. The per-credit rate is FSU’s standard out-of-state rate; what keeps the total down is that you pay for one year, not two. Tuition and fees alone are USD 50,059, and FSU’s living budget for 12 months adds another USD 30,540.

For the I-20 you show USD 67,572, FSU's MBA figure on its 2026 table; that's money you prove, not an extra cost. A USD 250 visa integrity fee is in US law but isn't included, as its collection wasn't confirmed on 24 September 2026. Converted at INR 95.7310 per USD, the FBIL reference rate for 23 September 2026 shown by the RBI. Flights and the optional overseas trip in the Global Business Seminar elective are excluded.

The flat fees are USD 20 a term for facility use across all three terms and USD 5 a term for the FSUCard in fall and spring. The college’s own program costs page shows USD 49,843.56 for this format. That figure multiplies 39 credits by the 2026-27 rate of USD 1,278.04 and leaves out the flat fees and books, so it runs about USD 216 below what a fall 2027 entrant is billed.

Living is FSU’s off-campus graduate budget of USD 22,906 for nine months, spread at USD 2,545 a month over twelve, because this MBA keeps you in Tallahassee through summer. Fall 2027 classes start on 23 August. Summer 2028 dates aren’t out yet, but summer 2027 ends on 30 July, so we’ve budgeted to the end of July 2028.

Health insurance isn’t optional. From 2026-27 every F-1 student is enrolled in FSU’s plan and can’t waive it, so an Indian policy won’t replace the USD 2,797 premium. FSU’s international office also tells students to allow for tuition and fee rises of up to 15% a year, and the 2027-28 per-credit rate was approved by the trustees in August 2026.

A graduate assistantship doesn’t change this much. The college says its MBA assistantships pay about USD 1,500 a term for three terms, which is roughly INR 4.31 lakh in total, for about 10 hours of work a week.

Can you get into the FSU MBA with an Indian degree?

Yes, if the evaluator rates your degree as comparable to an American bachelor’s with a 3.0 upper-division GPA, and you score IELTS 7.0. There’s no minimum work experience and no test requirement. The file is read as a whole, so your résumé, statement and two recommendations carry real weight.

The college publishes no minimum work experience, which surprises applicants who expect two years as standard. Its own description says the programme is built for working professionals and for strong students who’ve completed a significant internship or other work experience. A fresher with a real internship is inside that line; a fresher with none has nothing to show on the résumé the application asks for.

If you haven’t studied accounting, prepare before you arrive. The programme page only recommends a prep course, but the handbook makes the online FSU Fundamentals of Financial Accounting Tutorial, about 13.5 hours of work, part of your grade in ACG 5026.

The 3.0 is an upper-division GPA, not your overall one. FSU counts from the term in which you attempted your 60th credit through to graduation, which for a four-year Indian degree roughly means the last two years. If your marks rose after a weak first year, that works in your favour. If your final-year marks slipped, the evaluator’s figure is the one that decides, so read it before you apply.

Six things that sink or stall an Indian MBA file

  1. Send the file by 1 December, not 15 January

The programme page calls 15 January the priority date for international applicants and says later files are considered only if space remains. The college’s international page asks for more.
“To be considered for priority admission for fall and summer admissions, international students must submit completed application materials prior to December 1.”Herbert Wertheim College of Business, International Applicants
Fellowship nominations go only to files complete by 1 January. The 1 June final date exists, but an admit in June leaves very little time for an I-20 and an F-1 slot before classes start on 23 August. Treat 1 December as your date.
  2. Score IELTS 7.0 and plan to take the test

FSU’s Graduate School accepts IELTS 6.5 and PTE 55. The business college sets its own bar at IELTS 7.0 and PTE 66, so a 6.5 meets the university minimum and still misses this MBA. Don’t count on an English-medium degree to excuse you either. One line on the programme page mentions degrees taught in English, but its international section, and the Graduate School’s exemption list, tie the waiver to a degree from an English-speaking country, and India isn’t on that list.

  3. Don't book TOEFL or Duolingo until the college confirms the score

The college’s own pages disagree. The Accelerated Full-Time page asks for TOEFL iBT 100 and accepts Duolingo 125. The main MBA page asks for 5.0 on the new TOEFL scale for tests from 21 January 2026 and doesn’t list Duolingo at all. IELTS 7.0 and PTE 66 appear on every page, which makes them the safer booking.

  4. Get the evaluation first if your degree took three years

Neither FSU nor the business college says whether a three-year BCom, BBA or BSc counts as comparable to a US bachelor’s. The NACES course-by-course evaluation decides it, and FSU won’t review the file until that report arrives. A four-year BE, BTech or BBA is the safe case. If you hold a three-year degree, pay for the evaluation first and read the equivalence line before you spend on the application.

  5. Pick an on-campus specialisation if you're on an F-1

The MIS, risk management and healthcare specialisations are online only, and so is ISM 5404 in the handbook’s business analytics set. US rules limit how much online study counts towards an F-1 student’s full-time load.
“no more than the equivalent of one class or three credits per session, term, semester, trimester, or quarter may be counted toward the full course of study requirement if the class is taken on-line”8 CFR 214.2(f)(6)(i)(G)
Real estate, supply chain, marketing and HR run on campus. Choose one of those, or confirm the plan with the MBA coordinator before you register.
  6. An assistantship is a stipend, not a free MBA

Every admitted student is considered, but the college offers a limited number, paying about USD 1,500 a term for three terms against roughly 10 hours of work a week. They don’t cover fees of USD 50 to 80 a credit hour. The 2026-27 MBA handbook describes the waiver as “semesterly in-state tuition waivers” and doesn’t say whether the out-of-state portion is waived for an international student. Get that in writing with the offer before you count on it.

When should you apply to the FSU MBA for fall 2027?

Work backwards from 15 January 2027, the programme’s priority date for international applicants, and aim to be done by 1 December 2026. Most of the time goes to things outside FSU, namely your English test, the credential evaluation from your university’s transcripts, and two recommenders.

You apply on FSU's graduate application portal and pay the USD 30 fee. Your test body sends the English score, your university sends transcripts to a NACES evaluator who sends the evaluation to FSU, your recommenders submit online, and after an admit FSU's Center for Global Engagement issues the I-20 once you file the funding papers.

08 Jan 2027Submit and pay USD 307 daysFinal check of every upload before the portal closes the file.

The allowances are Nbyula planning estimates, not processing times published by Florida State University.

Scholarships run on a separate clock. The college’s graduate scholarship application opens on 15 January and closes on 1 April each year, and the assistantship question is a box on the main application that you tick yes.

The credential evaluation is the step Indian applicants underestimate. Your university has to send sealed transcripts to the evaluator, FSU won’t open the file without the report, and some Indian universities take weeks to dispatch. Start that request first, before the English test, because it’s the one step you can’t speed up by working harder.

Why a late admit is a visa problem

Decisions start soon after 15 January, and files after that date are read only if seats remain, up to the 1 June final date. An admit in May or June still needs the I-20 funding papers, the I-20 itself, the SEVIS fee and an F-1 interview slot before classes start on 23 August 2027. That’s the reason to finish early, not the college’s preference.

What work rights and job evidence come with the FSU MBA?

You get 12 months of OPT and nothing more, because the MBA’s CIP code, 52.0101, isn’t on the DHS STEM list. On jobs, the college’s only published figure is a 93.3% job offer rate for all MBA formats among 2021-22 graduates. No salary data, and nothing newer, is published.

MeasureFigureBasis

H-1B master's cap20,000 extra placesA US master's puts you in the separate cap pool. Selection is weighted by the wage level of the offer.

Every job figure here is either college-wide, old or national. None measures what Indian graduates of this format earn, and FSU doesn't publish that.

Twelve months of OPT is the number that decides this MBA for most Indian applicants. If you finish in late July 2028 and start OPT soon after, the March 2029 H-1B registration is realistically your one attempt while OPT runs. A STEM master’s gets three years for the same purpose.

The college names employers only for two specialisations. It says recent real estate graduates joined firms including CBRE, JLL, J.P. Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo, and that supply chain graduates work at companies including Amazon, Lockheed Martin, Home Depot and DHL. Those lists don’t say whether any were international students.

The USD 100,000 H-1B payment doesn’t apply to an in-country change of status from F-1 that’s approved, and a court order has blocked collection since June 2026. A separate proposed fee of USD 103,265 on all cap petitions was still only a proposal on 24 September 2026. Check both before you plan a US job search.

The 93.3% figure deserves a careful read. It mixes the full-time format with part-time evening and online students, many of whom already have jobs when they enrol, and it covers graduates from summer 2021 to spring 2022. It says nothing about F-1 students who need an employer willing to hire on a single year of OPT.

How is FSU ranked, and does the MBA have its own ranking?

We couldn't find this MBA in the QS or Financial Times global MBA tables, so the rows below are university-wide. They're context for how the degree's name reads abroad, not a measure of the MBA, and no ranking plays any part in admission.

Who is the FSU MBA right for, and who should skip it?

It suits someone who wants the MBA credential fast and cheaply and doesn't need years of American work to repay it. It's a poor fit for anyone whose loan plan assumes three years of US salary, since the degree carries one year of OPT.

VerdictYour backgroundWhy
Strong fit2 to 5 years' experience, planning to return to India or the GulfTwelve months costs less in fees and lost salary than a two-year MBA, and the 12-month OPT limit matters less if you're heading home.
Strong fitGraduate aiming at US real estate finance or supply chainThese are the two specialisations where the college names recent employers, and both run on campus.
Needs evidenceFresher with one internshipNo minimum experience is published, but the college describes a significant internship or work experience as the baseline. Expect to justify the MBA on your résumé.
Needs evidenceThree-year BCom or BBA graduateEligibility depends on the NACES evaluation calling the degree comparable. Order it before you apply.
Do not shortlistNeeds three years of US work to repay an education loanThe MBA isn't STEM-designated, so OPT stops at 12 months. Look at FSU's STEM business master's instead.
Do not shortlistWants a technology or MIS specialisation on campusThe MIS specialisation is online only, and an F-1 student can count one online class a term. The MS Business Analytics fits better.

The MBA and the college’s specialist master’s aren’t substitutes. The MBA spreads 30 credits across accounting, law, finance, marketing, operations and strategy, then lets you specialise with 9. The MS Business Analytics and MS Finance go deep in one field and carry STEM OPT, which for most Indian applicants outweighs the broader syllabus.

If you’re weighing this against a two-year MBA, compare the whole bill with the whole plan. FSU’s year costs about INR 82.36 lakh, but it gives you one year of OPT to recover it in the US. A dearer two-year STEM-designated MBA elsewhere buys three years of work permission, and for a loan-funded Indian student that difference can matter more than the sticker price.

What will you study in the FSU MBA's three terms?

Thirty of the 39 credits are fixed core, including a three-part professional development series that runs one credit a term. The remaining 9 are electives. FSU doesn't publish which term each core course falls in, and specialisations don't appear on your diploma or transcript.

The note “Core” applies to 7 components in this table.

  • Every course needs a C- or better to count, and you must hold a 3.0 GPA to graduate.
  • A GPA under 3.0 puts you on probation, and not recovering it by the end of the next term means dismissal.
  • The finance specialisation needs an undergraduate finance degree, and business analytics and finance need the programme director's approval.

Should you shortlist the FSU MBA?

Shortlist it if you want a one-year American MBA and you’re planning to work in the US for one year or return to India. Admission rests on your academic record, work history and two recommendations, with GMAT and GRE both optional, so a strong file can go in without a test score.

The trade is time for depth. Twelve months keeps the bill near INR 82 lakh and gets you back to earning a year sooner than a two-year MBA would. It also means there's no summer between the first and second year, and so no internship slot of the kind a two-year MBA student uses to switch careers.

Two things are genuinely hard here. The MBA isn't on the DHS STEM list, so you get 12 months of OPT and no 24-month extension, which leaves one H-1B lottery attempt before your work permission ends. That alone rules it out for anyone whose plan depends on several years of US work. And FSU publishes no MBA salary data and no placement figure newer than the 2021-22 graduating year, so you'd be paying INR 82 lakh without an outcome number for recent classes.

Key takeaways
  • The FSU Accelerated Full-Time MBA costs about INR 82.36 lakh, or USD 86,031, for 39 credits and 12 months in Tallahassee.
  • The MBA's CIP code, 52.0101, isn't on the DHS STEM list, so you get 12 months of OPT and no extension.
  • GMAT and GRE are optional, and the college recommends sending a score only at the 50th percentile or higher.
  • The English bar is IELTS 7.0 or PTE 66, higher than FSU's university minimum of 6.5 and 55.
  • The programme's international priority date is 15 January 2027, but the college's international page asks for files by 1 December 2026.
  • MBA assistantships pay about USD 1,500 a term for three terms and don't cover fees of USD 50 to 80 a credit hour.

Frequently asked questions

What is the total cost of the FSU MBA for Indian students?

Plan for about INR 82.36 lakh, or USD 86,031, for the one-year Accelerated Full-Time MBA starting fall 2027. That covers 39 credits of tuition at USD 1,281.77 each, flat fees, 12 months of living, books, FSU's compulsory health insurance, the application fee, SEVIS and the visa fee.

Is GMAT required for the FSU MBA?

No. GMAT and GRE are both optional for the Accelerated Full-Time MBA. If you do send a score, it becomes part of your file, and the business college recommends submitting only a score at the 50th percentile or higher. A weak score can hurt a file that would otherwise stand on its record.

Is the FSU MBA STEM designated, and how long is OPT?

No. FSU reports the MBA under CIP code 52.0101, which isn't on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, so graduates get 12 months of OPT without the 24-month STEM extension. FSU's MS Business Analytics, MS Finance and MAcc are STEM designated and carry up to three years.

What IELTS score does the FSU MBA need?

IELTS Academic 7.0, or PTE 66, taken within the last two years. That's higher than FSU's general graduate minimum of 6.5. Plan to sit the test even with an English-medium degree, because FSU ties the exemption to degrees from English-speaking countries and India isn't on its list. TOEFL and Duolingo rules differ across the college's pages.

What is the FSU MBA application deadline for fall 2027?

The programme's priority deadline is 15 January 2027, which it also names as the date for international applicants. The college's international page asks for complete files by 1 December 2026. Files after 15 January are read only if seats remain, up to a final date of 1 June 2027.

Does FSU accept a three-year Indian bachelor's degree for the MBA?

FSU hasn't published a rule either way. It asks for a degree comparable to a US bachelor's with a 3.0 upper-division GPA, judged by a NACES course-by-course evaluation. A four-year degree is the safe case, so three-year graduates should get the evaluation before paying the application fee.

How much work experience do I need for the FSU MBA?

FSU publishes no minimum. The college describes the programme as built for working professionals and for students who've done a significant internship or other work experience. Your résumé must show dates, positions and whether each role was full-time or part-time, so an internship-only profile needs to be strong.

Can I get an assistantship or scholarship in the FSU MBA?

Possibly, but it won't cover the year. Every admitted Accelerated Full-Time student is considered for a limited number of assistantships paying about USD 1,500 a term for three terms, for 10 hours of work a week. Scholarship applications open on 15 January and close on 1 April.
